Camping in the winter is the best--no bugs, no mud, no rain. Of course, there is something to be said for sitting on the patio on a 75 or 80 degree day, some ribs slowly cooking on the smoker, and a cold beer in your hand.........
dat - Posted - 02/21/2013: 05:49:29
I believe I like the warmer, camping for me is good when it's cool but not uncomfortable sleeping in the tent
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/21/2013: 06:23:26
I am someone who likes my creature comforts. AC in the summer and heat in the winter. And maybe a nice porch to hang out on in the evenings when it's not too hot/cold.
OM45GE - Posted - 02/21/2013: 06:32:57
When I first started working, I was at a trucking company in Boston. A truck carrying 40,000 lbs of soft cheeses (ricotta) had hit a low bridge and we had stored it in a metal warehouse for about a week in the middle of summer. I had to help load it onto a truck to take it to the dump. It was over 100 degrees in the warehouse and the tops were popping off the containers when we moved them. I would have loved for that to have been the dead of winter!

a friend of mine had chicken houses, the houses had automatic curtains, cooling fans and heaters, one summer the curtains didn't roll up and the fans didn't come on when the thermostat said they should, he came home to 20,000 dead chickens in 100 plus degree Texas summer. chickens bloat quick
dat - Posted - 02/21/2013: 09:47:01
both drip through your fingers by the time you're picking up tha last one
OM45GE - Posted - 02/21/2013: 09:53:32
True.
One time I was driving a tractor trailer back from Texas. I was in New York and started smelling something spoiled. I though I had dropped a sandwich or something in the cab but the smell got stronger and stronger. Finally I came within sight of a dump trailer filled over the top with bloated dead cow carcasses. I talked to him on the CB. He was heading to a rendering plant. He said he's puked a few times already.

I've never understood camping. We spent from the beginning of time to make our lives easy and comfortable with all the latest creature comforts. And then go camping anyways. I like my house and bed and bathroom and kitchen way to much to leave them for a weekend of insanity :)
OM45GE - Posted - 02/21/2013: 10:05:23
There are a lot of things that we do for recreation that were a pain in the but when we had to do them to survive.
DeanT - Posted - 02/21/2013: 10:56:36
Last time I went camping (and I mean LAST TIME EVER forever and ever and I mean never ever ever again) I spent a week itching chigger bites. In fact, I want to be cremated because I don't even want my dead body buried in the dirt mud and bugs.

My son and I will sleep in the tent in the woods near my best friend's house. That way we can shower and eat inside.
dat - Posted - 02/21/2013: 13:32:54
a shower is nice, that's the good thing about camping in warm weather, the river is warm enough to take a bath in
dat - Posted - 02/21/2013: 14:22:58
I believe extreme cold weather is there the phrase "purple button on a fur coat" came from

I'll never forget the largest snapping turtle on the planet crawling out of the water... and dying on the bank. I aint NEVER swam in nothing but a clorinated swimming pool since, and never will. You all are nutz !!! No more rivers or farm ponds or lakes or oceans for me never ever and I mean never ever ever
OM45GE - Posted - 02/22/2013: 02:51:56
A little chlorine doesn't bother a snapper.

here is my nephew and his band out of Austin, I don't really care much for their style, but at least they're trying to make a go at it.
dat - Posted - 02/22/2013: 06:31:48
he is the singer, he plays guitar and drums too, but just sings with them
OM45GE - Posted - 02/22/2013: 06:33:40
Good chops. A couple of the songs sound like he's channeling Bono of U2.
dat - Posted - 02/22/2013: 07:50:46
I'm gonna have to listen to some U2, I've heard them before, but it's probably been 20 something years ago, and I was probably drunk then
OM45GE - Posted - 02/22/2013: 08:37:19
They're not bad. I have most of their stuff on my iTunes. I've got a friend that is a fanatic for them and has been to dozens of their concerts. I can only take so much of them myself.
dat - Posted - 02/22/2013: 09:01:08
I like a pretty wide variety of music, Charlie Daniels, Conway, Nat King Cole, Eagles, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Lester Flatt, a good song is a good song if it is sung well no matter what label you put on it, well, except for rap
OM45GE - Posted - 02/22/2013: 09:33:56
I'm pretty much the same. I've tried listening to Rap and Hip Hop. I can see their talent but don't enjoy what their doing. Some of the real avant garde jazz and modern symphonic music don't do it for me either.

I went to see Eddie From Ohio last week (with Dan Navarro opening). Good concert, but Robbie announced that he's getting married.
This week I'm going to see Richard Shindell.

I can see it now, 'Niffer will be all liquored up on the front row with her shirt in her hand swinging in circles over her head hollering Woooooo Hoooooooooooooooo at the show, the security will have to escort her out and she'll knock them out on the way out then it'll be an all out brawl..........................................and a good time was had by all
dat - Posted - 02/25/2013: 07:52:18
I loaded and unloaded a trailer full of cross ties saturday by myself , I've been at a desk job too long, I'm out of shape
OM45GE - Posted - 02/25/2013: 08:06:45
I'm in pretty good shape from walking 4-6 miles a day (with the dog and too and from the train station and home/work), skiing, etc., but it ain't like it used to be for sure.
Before my knees gave out I could run 10 miles to the gym, swim 1 1/4 miles, work out, get a massage and meet my girlfriend in the bar for drinks and dinner. They'd be visiting me in the CCU if I tried that today.
dat - Posted - 02/25/2013: 08:38:57
this time of the year is hard for me, it's still dark when I leave the house in the morning and I finally have about 20 to 30 min of daylight after I get home, but it's been dark up until recent. when it's light enough I walk about 4 miles a day with my bride.
dat - Posted - 02/25/2013: 09:00:50
sho nuff, since we started working saturdays my house work has been slacking just from no time at home with daylight, the extra money helps, but time at home is worth more
DeanT - Posted - 02/25/2013: 10:23:56
I can still do the 10 miles and the work-out... but no more drinks at the bar for me...
dat - Posted - 02/25/2013: 13:13:31
I guess I can still do it all, it just takes me longer and I feel it more in the morning
