He has pressure washed the patio around his pool three times already this year. He opened the pool a month ago.

dat - Posted - 05/31/2016:  11:01:13

must be retired, nobody else would have the time to mess with that

OM45GE - Posted - 05/31/2016:  11:08:46

He's a graphic artist but he works from home. I think he is free lance so he can mess with the lawn when he wants. to.

I work from home too and my office faces the back of his house so I get to see how much he does out there. He probably thinks I'm a sluggo because I don't spend 1/20 the time on my yard that he does on his.

dat - Posted - 05/31/2016:  12:15:22

I'm glad I live out of town, the neighbors can't see my yard, of when the grass needs mowing, or when a tree dropped any branches

OM45GE - Posted - 05/31/2016:  14:24:22

I like living in town. I can walk to the post office, pharmacy, grocery store, train station etc. It's really convenient. We also have a lot of wooded areas with trails throughout them.

DeanT - Posted - 05/31/2016:  14:54:12

city boy here too. Grew up on a farm, hated it. I'm retired and could have the best yard in town. But I don't, because it's just not that important. I'm looking forward to the day I live in a condo, and never mow again.

chuckv97 - Posted - 05/31/2016:  18:54:08

I used to like keeping a vegetable garden, but being anal about a perfect lawn wasn't my thing

OM45GE - Posted - 06/01/2016:  03:34:41

I wouldn't mind a condo either but I do love my house.

dat - Posted - 06/01/2016:  05:36:37

good thing about living out of town is, you don't have to wave at the neighbors when you're outside and have ta pee

DeanT - Posted - 06/01/2016:  06:29:44

Our house has two bathrooms, they work great when you have to pee :)

dat - Posted - 06/01/2016:  06:36:37

bathroom, IN THE HOUSE?   dang, what'll they think of next   big

dmiller - Posted - 06/01/2016:  08:31:06

A friend of mine has a raspberry farm about 25 miles up the North Shore of Lake Superior.  She is out in the country and has running water in her cabin, but just got indoor plumbing (toilet) about 15 years ago.  Before that she used an outhouse that was about 50 feet away from the back of the house.

In the wintertime, that is about 50 feet too far. And

in the summertime, that is about 50 feet too close!

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/01/2016:  08:42:35

I live in a townhouse and my yard is 12' x 24'.  It's pretty much entirely brick.

The dogs pee on the bricks and the bricks retain the smell pretty badly.  I really want to rip out all the bricks and let something grown there instead.  But whoever put in the bricks used actual cement or something similar between the bricks, so to pull them out I'll probably need a sledgehammer.

There are a few spots where the local trees have pushed the bricks out with their roots, so I'm slowly pulling out patches of brick as I can.

DeanT - Posted - 06/01/2016:  10:07:52

wow that's a small yard! I thought our basic city lot was small! Our back yard used to be grass, now it's dirt. Less to mow!!!

dat - Posted - 06/01/2016:  10:16:48

a buddy of mine lives just south of Houston, he paid 25 K extra for the lot his house is on to get it up to the "over sized" 1/4 acre lot in his neighborhood

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/01/2016:  14:04:43

Compared to most of my neighbors, it's actually pretty big.  And since I'm the corner house, I have windows on two sides of my house, and a front door in addition to the sliding door to the yard.

Most of my neighbors have a small fenced front yard that you access either by the front door or by a sliding door.

This is my neighbor's house (mirror image of mine) and my house (on the right).

DeanT - Posted - 06/01/2016:  16:44:38

Now that's my kind of yard! Trim the bushes and walla!

OM45GE - Posted - 06/02/2016:  03:05:36

Does the condo association take care of the bushes?

dat - Posted - 06/02/2016:  05:59:36

we just filled in gravel about 12 feet around the back and side of our house, it makes a good sitting area out from our porch and makes mowing easier

DeanT - Posted - 06/02/2016:  06:59:28

Our neighbor has a gravel driveway, he sprays weed killer on it a lot, to keep the weed from growing up through it. One time he tried killing them with diesel fuel, and the whole neighborhood smelled like a truck stop for weeks...

dat - Posted - 06/02/2016:  08:00:58

round up is your friend    yes

OM45GE - Posted - 06/02/2016:  10:25:34

When I was a kid in the 60's, our next door neighbor drove a payloader for the railroad doing things like building grade crossings, track repair, etc. He was a great guy but not particularly bright.

He had a stone wall along his driveway with seven or eight beautiful walnut trees growing next to it. The wall was covered with poison ivy so he brought home some herbicide the RR used along the tracks. He read the directions and decided it would work better if he doubled the concentration when he mixed the stuff with water. It killed the poison ivy, all the walnut trees and half his lawn in a few weeks time. Lord only knows what that stuff was.

chuckv97 - Posted - 06/02/2016:  11:38:02

I wonder how he is now- might have killed him eventually

OM45GE - Posted - 06/02/2016:  12:14:23

He passed away a while ago. He had about a dozen kids. I wonder how they are.

DeanT - Posted - 06/02/2016:  13:50:23

I live a mile North of the Boing Aircraft factory in Wichita. When there is a south wind, I can smell Keytone... I've lived here almost 40 year... yikes...

dat - Posted - 06/03/2016:  05:37:32

as a kid I could always smell the paper mill from almost 20 miles away,

chuckv97 - Posted - 06/03/2016:  05:54:49

We had 3 paper mills on the south end of my hometown , on the Welland Canal. The lake freighters brought the wood down from the north. When the south wind blew, we'd blame it on Buffalo, 35 miles away. hah

The people who live near the paper mills around here call it the scent of money.

DeanT - Posted - 06/03/2016:  07:21:54

I went TDY in Savannah Georgia, I almost threw up getting off the plane, the paper mill smell was so bad. Got used to it fast though.

Yes.

dat - Posted - 06/03/2016:  09:20:03

that makes it easy, no or little yard work

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/03/2016:  09:29:07

The thing is they sometimes do things like "take care" of my garden by weed whacking it.  Several times I've come home from work to discover my lilies have gone from a couple feet tall to a couple inches tall.

dat - Posted - 06/03/2016:  09:33:43

nuthin like a good pruning

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/03/2016:  09:39:13

Thank goodness the lilies are really hardy and grow back quickly.

This spring the yard guys "weeded" my yard by pulling out my flowers and leaving the weeds behind.

dat - Posted - 06/03/2016:  09:59:36

I have been guilty of weeding some of my brides flowers, most of the time we plant together, so I know where stuff is, but sometimes she plants and I find out when I mow

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/03/2016:  10:11:16

I bet that makes you popular after.

dat - Posted - 06/03/2016:  10:17:34

well, she still puts up with me, and she knows I don't do it on purpose

OM45GE - Posted - 06/03/2016:  14:05:47

Oops!

DeanT - Posted - 06/03/2016:  15:17:21

My wife put anti-mower bricks between the lawn and her garden

dat - Posted - 06/03/2016:  15:22:10

bad thing about anti mower bricks, it's gets expensive replacing blades after you hit them

chuckv97 - Posted - 06/03/2016:  15:27:35

Do it at twilight to see the sparks

dmiller - Posted - 06/03/2016:  16:36:02

The best sparks to see at twilight is sitting on the porch with beer in hand and the bug zapper turned on.  cool

DeanT - Posted - 06/03/2016:  16:54:03

we don't go out at twilight, the skeeters would carry us away

dat - Posted - 06/04/2016:  06:43:59

we have many and a lot of citronella candles and citronella tiki torches around out porch, spray the yard with off backyard treatment, and we use east texas cologne  (off) if we need it, still have skeeters but not as bad,    that back yard treatment works pretty well for 2 or 3 weeks,  it says it'll last 4 to 6, but 2 or 3 is more like it, and I'm glad it works that long

DeanT - Posted - 06/04/2016:  15:04:13

skeeter season is almost over here, soon it will be too hot and dry.

chuckv97 - Posted - 06/04/2016:  15:34:58

Black fly season is on in northern Ontario - I'll be rolling through there tomorrow (with the windows up)

DeanT - Posted - 06/04/2016:  19:17:12

I remember some black flies in Maine, they were more like B-52 bombers
