Wow... I thought you ran away forever with cute guy...

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 09/27/2013:  05:41:52

I'm in a totally different building now. I will likely rarely see cute guy ever again. I need to find a cute guy in this building but so far it seems unlikely.

I am dealing with a crush on a guy who is a.) married and b.) in a completely different building so I never see him. But we talk on the phone occasionally. He has an incredible phone voice.

dat - Posted - 09/27/2013:  06:28:35

does he sound like Denzel Washington in the allstate commercials?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 09/27/2013:  13:38:57

Close. Not quite that husky. But close.

He's also quite good looking. But I don't see him that often. The other day I was over in his building and two people got on the elevator and I was thinking the one guy was quite attractive and then he said, "Jennifer, how are you?" I kind of stammered out something reasonably coherent but it wasn't until later that I realized it was him. That's how infrequently I see him.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 09/27/2013:  13:44:11

I don't know if you all have been paying any attention to the career of a former "I survived the 300 post game" member, but Chris Luquette, aka tangograss (and before he changed it to tangograss he was jerrygarciabanjofan) has been playing with Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen. I've been to see them in concert twice now. Mike Munford is on the banjo, Danny Booth on bass, Chris on guitar and Frank Solivan plays mandolin. They had a slew of nominations for the IBMA awards and Chris actually won the Momentum Award for guitar.

I feel almost like saying "I knew him when...."

(Mike Munford won Banjo Player of the Year.)

yep, when he was an I survived the 300 post game,    lot's of folks wish they could have started like that.

Oh, that guy in the elevator, he recognized you 'cause he was thinking, whew, there is that cute lady, I wonder ifin I could get the nerve to say hi to her

DeanT - Posted - 09/27/2013:  14:37:58

How do you know elevator guy is married?

(And before you ask, Henry's married, too.)

monday again, seems like it comes around every week about this time

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 09/30/2013:  06:40:16

I hear ya!

But I did start out with a conversation with someone about Makers Mark versus Wild Turkey. He made a suggestion for Jim Beam something or other that I'll have to check out the next time I'm at the liquor store. (I'm very sad, though. The closed the store near the post office. I used to swing by there after getting my mail. Now I have to go out of my way to get liquor. I've started drinking hard cider sometimes largely because there's a beer/wine place near where I get gas.)

dat - Posted - 09/30/2013:  08:07:25

cider is pretty good,   it was probably jim beam black label, pretty good, but makers mark is smoother.   one of these days after you save up and feel rich, get a bottle of blantons,  I've bought two bottles in my lifetime. then again, makers mark is just almost as good and about a third of the price

DeanT - Posted - 09/30/2013:  10:57:04

Jim Beam was the last alcohol drank... 22 1/2 years ago. I miss Jim

dmiller - Posted - 09/30/2013:  12:01:36

I was in Sam's Club getting a case of Sam Adams Boston Lager (23 bucks for 24 beers) the other day, and the clerk and I got to talking about bourbon and "smoothness".  I mentioned Maker's Mark and he agreed that it was very good, but then suggested I try Woodford Reserve which he thought was even better than Maker's Mark.

He mentioned that Woodford was 36 or so dollars per bottle (vs the MM at 21 dollars), but said it was worth the extra cost.  I had to tell him that I don't buy whiskey anymore because I like it TOO much, but it's fun to talk about.  He nodded his head and said "We're in the same boat, brother.  I don't buy it anymore either for the exact same reason."

dat - Posted - 09/30/2013:  12:09:56

if I bought it as much as I liked it, I would have a bottle at hand all the time, I bought some a year or so ago, but if I kept it around I would drink it all the time.

DeanT - Posted - 09/30/2013:  18:00:03

Me and Jim had a lot of good times... I think...

dat - Posted - 10/01/2013:  05:43:42

we sure did, I also let Jim get ahead of my bride and kids there for a while. sometimes I haven't picked my friends the best, Jim isn't a good friend to keep around often

DeanT - Posted - 10/01/2013:  13:32:20

I had to send Jim packing in 1991... believe it or not, x-wifey #2 said I wasn't fun anymore... and left me. She died in 2004...she never did shake the booze.

dat - Posted - 10/01/2013:  13:54:50

I shouldn't, but I'll still shake ol Jim's hand every once in a while.  but not often,

DeanT - Posted - 10/01/2013:  14:54:28

If the doc ever gives me a week to live... I'm going down with a case of Jim and a carton of Marlboro reds

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/01/2013:  17:05:18

Got a phone interview on Monday. I'm notsure the money will be enough but after a day like today I'm willing to consider a pay cut to get out of the current craziness.

Job is at Colorado State University.

DeanT - Posted - 10/01/2013:  18:48:28

Wow, that would be quite a move! ... weekends on the ski slope

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/01/2013:  19:56:56

I don't ski. But I could take my spinning wheel to the lodge and sell my yarn to people who want warm scarves.

dat - Posted - 10/02/2013:  05:47:19

And Colorado scenery is a little better

dat - Posted - 10/02/2013:  12:10:40

Yep, you can have all the cowboys, and my bride will knock me in the head when she sees my eyes drift

DeanT - Posted - 10/02/2013:  13:05:55

Probably lots of rich doctors and layers on ski vacations

dat - Posted - 10/02/2013:  13:33:07

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/02/2013:  15:10:09

I don't think anyone needs to see me in tight pants. Not ever.

DeanT - Posted - 10/02/2013:  16:22:43

Just a guess, but I would think that the cost of living would be cheaper around Colorado

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/03/2013:  10:46:37

Yeah, but it's a pretty big pay cut. Like almost $20k, since I have the second job. Cost of living would have to be a lot less out there to make it worth the change.

On the other hand, with some of the craziness they've been pulling around here lately it might almost be worth taking the pay cut just to get away from the stupidity.

dat - Posted - 10/03/2013:  11:16:27

big cut,    I couldn't take that big of a drop,    I don't make much more to start with, but then again, that would make it easier to drop and go, 'specially since the youngest girl is about 2 years from moving out

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/03/2013:  11:39:40

I suspect part of the reason they're doing a phone interview is to feel out candidates to find out if the pay is enough for the candidates to seriously consider the job. So I need to do a little research between now and Monday. I can also ask if there's any flexibility to the money, like could they pay more. There was a job I was offered a few years ago and they were willing to go back to HR to negotiate for more money. This is a state school, though, so I don't know that they can do that. (The other job was a private college so I think they had a little more flexibility.)

'Niffer!!!!!!!!!   you still around?      I heard a woman was in custody after the capital shooting,    wanted to make sure it wasn't you   approve

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/03/2013:  13:05:12

After the meeting I was just in, wouldn't surprise me if someone went on a shooting spree. But the woman I was with was the one getting ripped to shreds. I have a huge crush on the guy who was the chair of the meeting so I got to sit next to him and was kind of distracted.

DeanT - Posted - 10/03/2013:  16:27:15

My vote goes to getting away from the craziness and moving to Co. A reason I like Kansas. We see crazy stuff on the news... but things are still pretty tame around here... heck our city is out in the middle of nowhere...

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/04/2013:  05:50:59

Yeah. A more laid back kind of pace appeals to me, too. Although it would be sad if I didn't have as many concerts to go to. I'm going to one tonight (Red Molly), one tomorrow (Eddie From Ohio), one in a week (Buskin & Batteau) and one in two weeks (Robbie Schaefer).

I might have to start my own concert venue and bring all these people in myself so I wouldn't go into withdrawal.

dat - Posted - 10/04/2013:  05:58:27

there may be more of folks just getting together and playing on Colorado, we're headed out this weekend to a small town, population 20,  nuthin there but folks show up on the weekend and pick and play

DeanT - Posted - 10/04/2013:  13:13:04

Oh my... the music scene is huge around here! Concerts all over town all the time!

Any job openings for an SIS Specialist?

DeanT - Posted - 10/04/2013:  16:34:14

What is a SIS? The big university in our city is Wichita State.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/05/2013:  07:24:44

Student Information Systems.

I don't neccesarily need to be at a big university although I guess they are more likely to have separate positions for functional specialists, which is what I am. A lot of smaller schools expect either their IT people to be both functional and technical or they make the college registrar the functional position. I'm not skilled enough to be a technical person but I'm also not enthused about being a registrar.

The position at Colorado State was kind of like reading my job description. In fact we're trying to rewrite our job descriptions and I took a lot of language from the ad and used it.

Wow - - - Thanks for the link.  I've heard OF Red Molly before,

but this is the first time I've heard them.  Lots of energy there!

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/05/2013:  15:44:23

They really are phenomenal. There was originally a different woman in the group and she left and was replaced by the woman who stands on the right. Initially I didn't like her as much but it's been a couple or years and they've really developed their sound. I mean they were always good but they are definitely getting better.
