Those guys are nuts and the spectators that stand on the outside of the turns are even more nuts.

DeanT - Posted - 01/05/2016:  17:50:20

My first 3 marriages ran aground!

OM45GE - Posted - 01/05/2016:  17:59:49

Right there with you Dean.

DeanT - Posted - 01/06/2016:  06:22:33

It was all about learning how to do it right, with #4!!!

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/06/2016:  09:20:47

I had to buy the manual

OM45GE - Posted - 01/06/2016:  09:36:24

I did too but it was in a language I don't understand.

dat - Posted - 01/06/2016:  09:48:22

I still haven't learned the language with #1 yet

DeanT - Posted - 01/06/2016:  12:27:36

The manual wouldn't fit in my pick-up truck, so I never brought it home

dat - Posted - 01/06/2016:  12:58:21

even in a big rig you wouldn't have the room

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/06/2016:  14:54:03

Yeah, like looking for the chapter,"Gone home to mother." Hmmm......ok, what do I do now? ....oh yeah- get drunk!

dat - Posted - 01/06/2016:  15:06:12

I've been lucky, she puts up with me and I put up with her, I think she has the worse end of the deal through the years

DeanT - Posted - 01/06/2016:  17:09:51

My wife has more sewing machines, than I have banjos and guitars, so we get along just fine

dat - Posted - 01/07/2016:  08:45:36

how long since you wore a home made shirt, thinking back that's all I wore until I was probably about 14 or 15, other than t shirts, all our shirts were home built

DeanT - Posted - 01/07/2016:  09:56:10

Not home made... but I wear altered clothes all the time. She does make her own shirts, and made my youngest daughter's prom dress

dat - Posted - 01/07/2016:  12:53:15

my bride doesnt sew as much as she used to, but she still has the sewing machine set up just in case

DeanT - Posted - 01/07/2016:  16:26:51

My wife is a BIG TIME quilter. Her and a friend went in on a quilting machine... her biggest sewing machine yet!

OM45GE - Posted - 01/07/2016:  16:45:12

Those machines are incredible. A long way from when they were all sewn by hand.

DeanT - Posted - 01/08/2016:  05:40:11

and the most expensive thing we own besides our house!

dat - Posted - 01/08/2016:  06:09:49

I don't mind spending money on something when it is used often, spending it then it sitting is different

OM45GE - Posted - 01/08/2016:  13:36:33

Like most exercise machines?

DeanT - Posted - 01/08/2016:  14:19:31

I can't say that about my Nordic Track ski machine... I'm on my 3rd one, I wore the first two out. I use mine every day!

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/08/2016:  15:18:50

I need to get that disciplined

DeanT - Posted - 01/08/2016:  16:30:40

I've never done a workout that I regretted

OM45GE - Posted - 01/08/2016:  18:16:40

Definitely.

dat - Posted - 01/09/2016:  08:27:41

I don't work out near as much as I need to, I like to think that I do enough work work to be ok, but I do less physical work now than ever in my life, I still cut, split and stack firewood by hand and splitting maul, I still do other work around the house, but it's more just weekend stuff now and sitting a lot at work running my fingers over a keyboard and holding a phone,   still haven't busted over the 200 mark, even though I did get up to 195 once, back down to about 190 at 6 ft.  I should loose about 10 pounds and I would be about right for me

OM45GE - Posted - 01/09/2016:  09:23:41

There are some folks who get their excercize jumping to conclusions.

DeanT - Posted - 01/09/2016:  09:31:19

I'm still at my High School weight. For years people would tell my I was too skinny. Some of those folks are dead now. I don't get that near as much any more. I don't think it's a longevity thing, I think working out is a quality of life thing. My Grandpa sat in an easy chair smoking cigars for the final 30 years of his life and died at 83 (Pancreatic cancer). My dad bicycled and rollerbladed and worked out out like me, and died at 85 (spinal cancer). I figure I have about 30 years left no matter what I do. I just want to be healthy and energetic (like my Dad) up to the end.

dat - Posted - 01/09/2016:  09:31:47

now I can jump pretty high doin' that   yes  approve

OM45GE - Posted - 01/09/2016:  11:05:34

I think you're right on Dean. I want to be able to enjoy live and be active as long as I can.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/09/2016:  11:16:35

I need to lose 15 lbs. this winter- I'm off til April so it'll give me a daily workout routine. So far, despite gorging during Christmas week, I've lost 5 lbs. my cholesterol and triglycerides numbers are getting up there. 66 and I've never been this heavy. Too much sitting while working,, like you Daniel. I should be at 180 , but I'm touching 205 now.

DeanT - Posted - 01/09/2016:  13:30:26

The biggest trick is to find an activity that you like, so that you keep doing it. Doing something, is way more important than what you do. I like competition, so I run marathons. I race two marathons a year plus shorter races about once a month, and being ready for the next race keeps me training every day. I'm 6'1" and it keeps me at 145 pounds, and I can pretty much eat whatever I want.

dmiller - Posted - 01/10/2016:  21:14:05

I'm 6'4" and have never weighed more than 185.

Always been tall and skinny.  My Dad was the same way.

(edited to add - -)

I only gain weight when I have the banjo strapped around my neck!

Some folks I worked with had a weight lose contest. A friend of mine did the weigh in with 20 lbs of workout weights strapped to his legs. He fessed up after he "won" handily.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/11/2016:  07:40:28

Hah! "If you're not cheating you're not trying".

dat - Posted - 01/11/2016:  10:32:36

and if you get caught cheating, you aren't trying hard enough

dmiller - Posted - 01/11/2016:  10:45:39

Whenever we had a hard test back in high school, I used to write "facts and figures" (that might be on the test) on a piece of paper, and hid the paper under my watch for reference during the test.  The only problem was - - once I wrote that stuff down, I remembered what I wrote and didn't need to look at it (cheating) during the test.

dat - Posted - 01/11/2016:  13:04:48

same here, when I tried to cheat, I didn't need to, the extra time of writing it down one more time was study time

DeanT - Posted - 01/11/2016:  16:02:40

what do they do today in the classrooms, when every kid has a smart phone...

dmiller - Posted - 01/11/2016:  16:14:27

I remember back in Math class (high school again - - 45 years ago) when you weren't allowed to use a calculator during tests.  Everything had to be done with pen/ pencil and paper.  You actually had to THINK to take the test

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/11/2016:  16:21:12

We had grade 13 in Ontario,,a pre-university year. We were allowed to take in a slide rule. Remember those?

OM45GE - Posted - 01/12/2016:  03:20:08

I still have one somewhere.

DeanT - Posted - 01/12/2016:  04:55:07

My Dad had a Texas Instruments calculator from his job... he would let us use it to check our math homework, we thought we were hot shots...

OM45GE - Posted - 01/13/2016:  03:41:18

I've been using an HP12C financial calculator for over 30 years. I use it all the time, although not as much as when I was running businesses, and have only replaced the batteries twice I all that time.

DeanT - Posted - 01/13/2016:  04:36:26

The only math I've done since highschool is in my bank book... all done the old fashioned way...

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/13/2016:  04:41:02

I liked Math - to me it was like solving puzzles

dat - Posted - 01/13/2016:  05:41:52

been a long time since I've actually done much math without an adding machine, at work it's quicker to make an estimate adding tax and a line of parts with an adding machine and the customer doesn't have to wait,   but I always liked math too, something that is solid, constant

OM45GE - Posted - 01/13/2016:  05:42:00

I've heard that many musicians are also good at math.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/13/2016:  09:09:48

Ben Eldridge, banjo player in the Seldom Scene is a mathematician. Bach was into numerology, using numbers denoting notes for some of his compositions.

dat - Posted - 01/13/2016:  10:22:02

ciphering my tutums was purty easy, my guzenta's took some figuring   approve
