make sure someone takes video...

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/10/2018:  19:54:25

I’d want a parachute and a net

OM45GE - Posted - 02/11/2018:  11:41:24

I would just need a place to sit and spectate.

DeanT - Posted - 02/11/2018:  15:24:01

I'd go down the ramp with a hang glider

OM45GE - Posted - 02/11/2018:  15:52:30

That I would probably do.

DeanT - Posted - 02/12/2018:  10:29:32

The snowboarders are crazier than the ski jumpers

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/12/2018:  10:55:14

My daughter’s boyfriend broke his arm trying some of those snowboarding stunts

dmiller - Posted - 02/12/2018:  12:35:05

The guitarist and lead vocalist in our band used to to do  "ski jumping/ ski flying" - - (whatever you  want to call it) back when he was just a "younger guy" in his 20's in the late 1980's.  He recently had to have both of his knees replaced as a result of all those "free fall" jumps..

Ah, the exuberance of youth!

DeanT - Posted - 02/13/2018:  06:03:08

the speed skaters have strong knees and monster legs

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/13/2018:  06:18:20

Max glutes

I wonder if it's hard for them to find a pair of pants that fits.

DeanT - Posted - 02/13/2018:  10:15:10

probably sweat pants ...

OM45GE - Posted - 02/13/2018:  10:17:12

Or Lycra

How about Sven Kramer? The guy’s amazing.

The worst of them are amazing. The best are members of another species.

DeanT - Posted - 02/13/2018:  15:03:37

My dad was a speed skater, he still used his old speed skates into his 70's

OM45GE - Posted - 02/13/2018:  18:16:00

I am a speed skater too. It's just a very slow speed.

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/13/2018:  18:29:42

Ha...me too nowadays. I still like to hear the bite of the blades into the ice.

DeanT - Posted - 02/13/2018:  18:39:34

Not me... my ankles would break just standing there

OM45GE - Posted - 02/14/2018:  04:17:55

I do like to skate and the sound Chuck mentioned is part of it. My Dad used to ice fish and, if there was no snow on the lake, you could skate for what seemed like forever.

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/14/2018:  06:54:00

No snow on 15 Mile Creek back home,, you’d be chasing stray pucks for half a mile

We used to go to a place with a fairly big lake that had an even bigger swampy area behind it. It was crisscrossed with streams and you could skate around for hours and explore.

DeanT - Posted - 02/14/2018:  17:07:22

we skated on the back pond... as long as we could keep up with the snow removal. Which could be quite a project in Michigan!

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/14/2018:  17:22:56

We made a backyard rink....after every thaw it’d take us a week of evening flooding to build it back up.

OM45GE - Posted - 02/15/2018:  07:50:07

When I was big enough to reach the pedals, my father used to let me drive his car on the ice. He would sit in the camp and drink bourbon and watch me slide around on the lake. It was a great way to prepare me for winter weather driving.

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/15/2018:  13:31:35

Good training

OM45GE - Posted - 02/15/2018:  13:44:23

It really was. I was counter-steering into skids several years before I could legally drive. It's gotten me through many winters safely.

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/16/2018:  09:46:56

I almost lost my truck and trailer, fully loaded, a few years ago hitting black ice. Steering into the skid kept me somewhat straight until I hit some bare pavement again.

OM45GE - Posted - 02/16/2018:  11:21:40

I pulled into a shopping center in an ice storm once to let the sanders get the roads in shape. I set the brakes and started doing paperwork when I sensed that I was moving. The truck and trailer were sliding sideways across the parking lot towards a light pole. There was nothing I could do except watch it happen. Fortunately, it stopped about 15' from the pole.

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/16/2018:  11:44:51

I hate it after driving steady for many hours, I get to a red stoplight in some town and the car next to me starts inching forward - I slam on my brake thinking I’m rolling backwards.

OM45GE - Posted - 02/16/2018:  12:10:13

I've done the same thing. It's a little unnerving.

Something similar happens at the train station. The train on the next track over starts moving and I get a feeling of vertigo like we're the ones moving.

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/16/2018:  12:29:40

Ya, we used to watch the big ships go through the locks in the Welland Canal - you’d stand there looking at their huge bulk moving and get the feeling you were gliding sideways

DeanT - Posted - 02/16/2018:  13:56:07

heck, that happens to me at a stoplight, when the car next to me moves...

OM45GE - Posted - 02/16/2018:  14:27:36

It's a weird sensation.

DeanT - Posted - 02/17/2018:  15:56:46

Yeah, it makes me slam on the brakes that are already on

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/17/2018:  17:50:16

Yeah, exactly - slam that brake pedal right through the radiator...haha

DeanT - Posted - 02/18/2018:  07:20:14

It's better than someone sitting at a stoplight, and missing the green, because they are busy texting

OM45GE - Posted - 02/19/2018:  04:54:58

That is happening more and more often.

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/19/2018:  05:37:13

And also when they’re driving...dangerous

DeanT - Posted - 02/19/2018:  10:06:18

My only accident in my life was two years ago, when I t-boned a girl who was texting and turned left right in front of me.

OM45GE - Posted - 02/19/2018:  15:32:43

I don't feel safe riding a motorcycle anymore because of distracted drivers.

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/19/2018:  16:38:51

That’s partly why they tried to put those two-way cams on our windshields.

DeanT - Posted - 02/20/2018:  15:26:14

Texting must be insane out on the open highway

OM45GE - Posted - 02/21/2018:  04:38:44

My son and I are driving to Nashville. We’re in Salem Virginia right now (at a hotel so I’m not driving lol). We’ve seen people texting, talking on the phone and one guy in a truck eating a head of lettuce and steering with his elbows.

I-81 was shut down at the Maryland West Virginia border for an hour because of a crash. We just sat and talked.

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/21/2018:  08:17:56

Hmm.....like that commercial on TV where father and son are waiting for a tow truck and pop decides it’s a good time to awkwardly talk about the birds and the bees

OM45GE - Posted - 02/22/2018:  05:39:30

We’re well past that conversation. Lol. There was another accident shutting down the highway in Virginia yesterday. A northbound semi came across the median into the southbound side of I-81. If I wanted traffic jams I could have stayed in Boson.

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/22/2018:  21:33:01

That I-81 is a busy highway,,,I used to run down it to do drops in VA ,then jump on the I-77 down into Nawklawna. I-81 follows U.S.11 which was the old Lee Highway, as in the tune “Lee Highway Blues”. Old time truckers talk about that one from the olden days ,and how it took forever to get from PA down into Tennessee.

“Dr. Humphreys had already published articles calling for the extension of the Shenandoah Valley Pike southward to Chattanooga and New Orleans. He suggested the road be called the "Battlefield Highway", "Valley Highway" or "Lee Highway." On February 22, 1919, Washington's birthday, a group of fourteen men met at a luncheon in Hotel Roanoke in Roanoke, Virginia for the formation of a provisional Lee Highway Association.”

On the way home I’m thinking of taking I-71 up through Cincinnati to Akron and then east on I-80. Other than the run on I-71 I’ve gone that route. It’s not that much longer.
