From the perspective of someone who has trouble whittling a sharp stick to poke in my eye, you've got a ton of talent.

dat - Posted - 01/24/2013:  06:41:34

the Lord gives me the ability to have fun with it

DeanT - Posted - 01/24/2013:  07:23:27

And I have a hard time putting together Wal-Mart furniture...

dat - Posted - 01/24/2013:  07:28:28

some of those can be confusing

Alaina - Posted - 01/24/2013:  08:57:51

Especially when you are given the choice between instructions in Japanese or Swedish

mbanjo - Posted - 01/24/2013:  12:42:46

Or worse still when there are no instructions at all in the box..

DeanT - Posted - 01/24/2013:  13:10:10

I cringe when I see a bag full of cam-locks...

dat - Posted - 01/24/2013:  13:33:31

whew, I don't like cam locks, I try not to even use any screws or nails in anything I build

mbanjo - Posted - 01/24/2013:  13:41:31

How would you build a bed of nails? lol

dat - Posted - 01/24/2013:  14:01:57

toothpicks

OM45GE - Posted - 01/24/2013:  15:50:12

When I was running my pallet company I bought lumber from a mill who made roof trusses for post and beam house that were assembled with pegs - no nails at all. They had one of their prototypes in the yard for several years and decided to take it apart. They tried to hammer the joints open with a sledge and couldn't. They ended up cutting it apart with a chainsaw.

I just noticed that Bill is about to pass me up on post count... man that's a lotta posting!

mbanjo - Posted - 01/24/2013:  20:52:56

You can stay in front dean, if you put your mind to it:-)

OM45GE - Posted - 01/25/2013:  03:22:54

I been working from home a lot lately and I keep two computers running so I post more than I do when I'm in the office.

dat - Posted - 01/25/2013:  06:22:25

how long 'till you hit 100,000

DeanT - Posted - 01/25/2013:  07:19:15

I used to post a lot when I worked. Since I retired (2007) I haven't even come close to what I used to do. To busy... so little time!

dat - Posted - 01/25/2013:  07:26:17

most folks I know stay busier after they retire than when they worked

Alaina - Posted - 01/25/2013:  08:36:42

Good morning all!

dat - Posted - 01/25/2013:  08:42:22

Good Morning

Alaina - Posted - 01/25/2013:  08:46:31

How are you doing today?

dat - Posted - 01/25/2013:  09:12:37

wonderful, I woke up breathing one more day,  got to be a good day

Alaina - Posted - 01/25/2013:  09:16:12

It most definitely will be a great day!

dat - Posted - 01/25/2013:  11:25:24

and it's friday

Alaina - Posted - 01/25/2013:  11:27:55

Finally! And I just found out that my boyfriend doesn't have to work tonight (which would have made 6 nights in a row and really bugged the daylights out of me). So it really will be a good day

dat - Posted - 01/25/2013:  11:55:16

if he doesn't have to work tonight, see ifin he'll take you out somewhere fancy for supper

Alaina - Posted - 01/25/2013:  11:59:31

Nah, he's had a crazy week. I think we're going to stay in our sweatpants, have a candlelit pizza dinner, and curl up together with a movie. Besides, it's raining outside, I'm not big on dressing up only to get rained on lol

dat - Posted - 01/25/2013:  12:02:16

sounds like a better evening than going out anyway, just stay in your sweatpants

Alaina - Posted - 01/25/2013:  12:06:32

And that way, we can literally fall asleep wherever and not have to worry about a drive home

ErikH - Posted - 01/26/2013:  04:16:09

It's easy to sleep when you hear the rain hitting the windows, and you know you are nice and dry inside.  Same thing when you are camping, provided your tent doesn't have a leak.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/26/2013:  04:50:57

It is nice to feel snug and cozy in a rain storm. It must suck to be homeless though.

DeanT - Posted - 01/26/2013:  08:04:50

A couple years ago my band volunteered to play at a homeless gathering (many local specialists offering services in many areas like doctor, dentist, glasses, clothes, etc...). It was shocking when over 800 homeless people showed up. Real eye opener.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/26/2013:  08:49:45

It is surprising and disturbing for sure. I think a lot of people assume the homeless are drug users, alcoholics or mentally disabled. While they certainly make up a big share of the homeless, but there are a lot of families too.

mbanjo - Posted - 01/26/2013:  12:51:40

When you see a family with 3 or 4 young children living in a car for weeks on end..........it makes you wonder if the athorities have their priorities mixed up at all

OM45GE - Posted - 01/26/2013:  12:59:06

I've always thought that you can best judge a society by how it cares for its disadvantaged.

DeanT - Posted - 01/26/2013:  23:15:12

We have a river walk downtown, and there are homeless people living under most of the bridges. They've made some pretty complex cardboard shelters.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/27/2013:  03:08:20

I always wondered why someone would stay up in the frozen north and sleep outside.

DeanT - Posted - 01/27/2013:  18:55:02

bill collectors and repo men

ErikH - Posted - 01/28/2013:  02:30:23

I've wondered why they stay where it's cold, too.  I guess you can't just pick up and walk to Atlanta, though.  You have to try to eke out an existance where you know how.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/28/2013:  04:18:10

There's one woman with three shopping carts filled with stuff who used to sleep on a heating grate near the train station I come into. It's right next to the road and a busy expressway ramp runs above and beside it (no shelter from the weather). Between the trains and all the traffic it looked pretty miserable. I haven't seen her for a few months.

dat - Posted - 01/28/2013:  06:05:50

sometimes I wonder just how close we are to being homeless, it wouldn't take many of just a few things not working right all at the same time

DeanT - Posted - 01/28/2013:  07:03:41

I was for 14 days. Living in debt, got laid off. House had foreclosed and the lease to the rental was up. Bankruptcy took my car and anything of value. I had an old pick-up truck and a suitcase of clothes to my name, and my guitar. I had to wait 14 days to get on the plane that took me to basic training. Life can be very fragile.

dat - Posted - 01/28/2013:  07:08:58

we used to put money in savings, now we take out more than we put in

OM45GE - Posted - 01/28/2013:  09:40:11

There but for the grace of god...

DeanT - Posted - 01/28/2013:  10:00:10

It amazing how fast things snowball when you reach the last straw. I had actually seen the crash coming, and had joined the military, and had my basic dates, so I wasn't at a dead end. My timing just was a little off. I couldn't imagine being someone in that situation, without a plan.

dat - Posted - 01/28/2013:  10:09:06

OR TO OLD TO JOIN THE MILITARY

Alaina - Posted - 01/28/2013:  12:10:26

Yes but some of this comes from what we are discussing in another forum concerning illegals and how they won't stop coming into our country and how our president doesn't want to do jack ---- about it

dat - Posted - 01/28/2013:  13:06:29

we all have family that came from another country, I have family that was here before it was a country and some that are just a few generations back, the ones that haven't been here long came in legal and paid their taxes

Alaina - Posted - 01/28/2013:  13:16:28

I meant coming here illegally and not bothering to become citizens... Kudos to the ones who want to be citizens and go through the proper channels. I have no issues with them at all. But it is the ones who walk over the border at 9 months pregnant, have their baby for free in a hospital, and expect to get to stay here free with their child and not bother to even try to become a citizen and pay taxes...

dat - Posted - 01/28/2013:  13:38:07

I quit going to a bank here in town when they started advertising wiring money to Mexico cheap.  they come here, work, don't pay taxes and then wire money to mexico and we buy their groceries and pay for their medical bills through our insurance 'cause the doctors and hospitals know that the insurance companies will pay, then the insurance companies go up on our rates to cover the extra that the doctors have put on them........................................................................................I feel my blood pressure going up
