The guy must have a duel personality, whiners don't do well in the service.

OM45GE - Posted - 12/15/2011:  04:07:21

I thought b****in' a favorite pastime in the service.

DeanT - Posted - 12/15/2011:  07:33:25

B!t(h!ng and whining are totally different things! In the service anyone can be a real b!t(h, but you can't be a wuss.

dat - Posted - 12/15/2011:  08:43:43

That should be with any work place, one thing to say,  this could be done better like this, another to whine about how it's done and not try

OM45GE - Posted - 12/15/2011:  09:26:11

How about the sommelier  at a nice restaurant? He's got to ask people if the want a little wine.

DeanT - Posted - 12/15/2011:  10:39:22

Whiners drink wine, b!t(hers drink whiskey

dat - Posted - 12/15/2011:  12:43:46

DeanT - Posted - 12/15/2011:  16:18:13

or maby the unmotivated old boyfriend will get all fired up once he sees 'Niffer again

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/16/2011:  07:41:46

I don't think I need him to get motivated over me.

Don't get me wrong--he's a hard worker. It's not like he shirks his job duties or is lazy. One of the things that I liked about him when we were dating was that even though he was unhappy with his job at the time, he stuck it out and worked hard and put in overtime did things that weren't really in his job description. His parents didn't pay for any of his college. He worked full time and went to school and got his degree and then went on for a masters.

It's more that he's very defeatist about his ability to move up in the world. My opinion is that if there's a job you're interested in you should apply for it. Or if you're unhappy with your job, look around to see what's out there and apply for things that sound interesting. Sure you'll get turned down a lot, but you'll never get a new/better/more interesting job if you don't apply. He just figures he won't get the job so why bother applying.

It's like my first job here at the college. I knew I'd kicked butt in the interview. That was probably the best interview I've ever been to. But I also knew that I didn't know the computer systems that were used for the college and there was a good chance that someone (like a temp) who knew the system would also apply for the job and that I couldn't compete with someone who knew the system. But I applied for the job and I got it. And I've had two promotions since then and I'm in a good position to move up again if I want to or to apply for a job at other colleges if I want. That wasn't the first job I'd applied for here. There were other positions that I never even got an interview for. But I kept applying, hoping to get my foot in the door, and eventually I did.

He just figures that there's someone better qualified or that they won't hire him because they need to fill a minority quota or whatever and he doesn't bother applying. So he ends up stuck in the jobs he doesn't like and he never gets anywhere.

DeanT - Posted - 12/16/2011:  07:53:13

Maybe you could get promoted and become cute guys boss

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/16/2011:  08:22:46

Yeah, that would put a serious damper on dating potential. There's rules against that kind of thing.

dat - Posted - 12/16/2011:  08:30:27

you won't have to smooch in the halls, you'll be able to wait 'till you get off campus

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/16/2011:  08:47:42

Actually I don't work on campus. I tell people I work at "an undisclosed location."

We had a retreat last month and there was a "meet and greet" kind of thing at the beginning. We had to find people who met certain qualifications and then tell them certain things about ourselves. One of the qualifications was to find someone who worked in my building--and there's not a lot of us, so I was pretty popular. One of the questions we had to answer was what we like best about our job. I said, "I love that I can walk to the bathroom without being accosted by students."

Most people said something dorky like, "I like helping people."

dat - Posted - 12/16/2011:  09:04:08

helping people is overrated, I've been doing it all my working life

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/16/2011:  10:09:46

I don't mind helping people. But when I gotta pee, seriously, get out of my way!

DeanT - Posted - 12/16/2011:  10:39:04

It's all that Hazelnut coffee...

dat - Posted - 12/16/2011:  12:24:02

or do like the astronaut lady driving to Florida

DeanT - Posted - 12/16/2011:  15:46:28

Jennifer has a boyfriend in Florida?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/17/2011:  08:27:52

I am "the other woman" for a guy in Florida. But his wife knows me and is okay with it.

DeanT - Posted - 12/17/2011:  09:29:01

My wife left Florida to be with me, she's so sweet :)

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/17/2011:  11:12:32

I have no desire to live in Florida. I would have moved there if my ex-boyfriend had not been such an ass. But I suspect I would have hated it.

DeanT - Posted - 12/17/2011:  11:21:20

lots of creepy crawlers and bugs and spitting frogs and lizards and big things that crawl out of the river and eat your dogs and cats

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/17/2011:  12:27:23

Plus it's really hot.

DeanT - Posted - 12/17/2011:  13:54:09

and hurricanes

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/17/2011:  19:56:12

And sand on the beaches the get all into your clothes and make you all itchy.

DeanT - Posted - 12/17/2011:  20:05:52

And it rains every afternoon

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/18/2011:  14:50:34

And there's lots of people. Too crowded.

DeanT - Posted - 12/18/2011:  15:14:53

And everyone at the beech is almost necked... hey wait....

OM45GE - Posted - 12/19/2011:  04:12:21

And the problem with that is?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/19/2011:  06:06:26

There's a local radio station I was listening to the other day that said, "We only play Christmas music on Christmas day. As it should be." And I thought, okay, I can go with that.

But then they went on to say they're only going to play the music from midnight to 1am. The rest of the day they're playing Beatles.

dat - Posted - 12/19/2011:  07:04:13

I don't care for sand, but raining a lot would be nice, not to mention the wimminzez on the beach wearing wet clothes

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/19/2011:  07:31:35

I can't say women in wet clothes really does much for me.

DeanT - Posted - 12/19/2011:  07:48:57

How about cute guy dripping wet?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/19/2011:  08:47:04

His curly hair might go all straight!

DeanT - Posted - 12/19/2011:  10:11:42

you better get him a towel

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/19/2011:  11:59:06

What if I only have one towel? Do you think he'll share?

dat - Posted - 12/19/2011:  12:24:58

ANY KIND OF GENTELMAN WOULD

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/19/2011:  13:11:22

See, I'm glad I know you guys. You can clarify these things for me.

Hold on while I get my notebook. I think I need to take notes.

dat - Posted - 12/19/2011:  13:21:26

I wouldn't quote much from me, it'll just get you in trouble

DeanT - Posted - 12/19/2011:  17:11:31

Two dripping wet people wrapped up in one very large towel = happiness

OM45GE - Posted - 12/20/2011:  02:40:26

Toss the towel in the dryer while you're getting dripping wet.

Two dripping wet people wrapped up in one very large, warm towel = even more happiness

dat - Posted - 12/20/2011:  07:17:41

Sounds like a great beach trip

DeanT - Posted - 12/20/2011:  07:40:41

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/20/2011:  08:16:49

I could totally go for some warm towel happiness right now.

dat - Posted - 12/20/2011:  08:44:29

bird watching is nice on the beach too, nice place to watch seagulls, pelicans, kingfishers, brown breasted mattress thrashers, all kinds of wildlife

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 12/20/2011:  09:58:27

"all kinds of wildlife"

Like drunk college kids?

DeanT - Posted - 12/20/2011:  10:20:27

These are nice things to think about on the shortest day of the year... or is that tomorrow?

dat - Posted - 12/20/2011:  10:51:14

not sure which is shorter, but I know it's dark when I leave the house in the morning and dark when I leave work in the evening.   I'm ready for some daylight when I get home in the evenings.   we did get some rain last night though, that was nice

OM45GE - Posted - 12/20/2011:  15:03:23

Can you at least step outside during the day for a glimps of the sun?
