It's my banjo that I'm neglecting.

DeanT - Posted - 01/03/2017:  17:03:23

I need a lighter banjo... I'm pissed at myself for letting my old Goodtime go...

OM45GE - Posted - 01/04/2017:  02:56:36

That's part of my problem. That thing gets heavy quickly, even sitting down and using a strap. I'm also just enjoying the guitar more.

DeanT - Posted - 01/04/2017:  03:04:20

I don't even own an acoustic guitar... just my tele

OM45GE - Posted - 01/04/2017:  03:21:11

Morning Dean.

I've got a dozen. I'm planning to sell a few but am having trouble picking which ones to sell.

Man - - - That's a beautiful "display closet" you have them in!  The guitars look great too.  I just have one (a 1968 Martin D-35), and I don't play that at all like I used to.  I was tempted recently by a Gallagher G-70 for sale on ebay a while back.  Thankfully someone else got it before I did "something foolish"!

OM45GE - Posted - 01/04/2017:  08:00:30

Thanks. It was a present from my son and wife a few years ago. It sure beats trying to keep all the guitars humidified in the cases all winter long. Plus, I tend to play them more when they're right there for the picking.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/04/2017:  08:22:21

Nice guitars and display case,Bill.
I just have my old Yamaha 20D classical and two banjos - an ODE and a Recording King 77. I get different emotions playing guitar versus banjo. Plus I find more jams on banjo ,,guitar is my solitary instrument.

DeanT - Posted - 01/04/2017:  10:55:30

From the looks of the hooks in the cabinet, you need to buy at least one more guitar!

OM45GE - Posted - 01/04/2017:  11:37:59

Thanks Chuck and Dean.

The empty hook is for the guitar on the stand, but I like your thinking Dean. Sadly, there are a couple of nice guitars in cases too. I really need to thin the herd - and stop giving in to GAS.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/04/2017:  11:59:05

I know what you mean...I almost hate to stop in at places like Intermountain Guitar and Banjo in SL City, or Acoustic Vibes in the Phoenix area. Very tempting.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/04/2017:  12:10:28

We've got The Music Emporium about a half hour from here. It's overwhelming. Good banjo selection too.

DeanT - Posted - 01/04/2017:  16:00:56

Heck, I have a hard enough time at Guitar Center...

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/04/2017:  17:14:54

Funny thing - I always feel obligated to buy something at a music store, even if it's just some strings or picks,or a book. Must be cuz I worked at one years ago.

DeanT - Posted - 01/05/2017:  06:24:33

I always look at the skull head tuner knobs, and wonder if they would fit on my banjo...

OM45GE - Posted - 01/05/2017:  13:37:13

I had a skull head shifter on my VW Beetle - until someone stole it (the shift knob).

DeanT - Posted - 01/05/2017:  14:20:26

I hope your headlights didn't have eye lashes...

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/05/2017:  14:52:35

Or a windup key on the back

OM45GE - Posted - 01/05/2017:  14:57:02

No, it was dark blue with no external adornments. It did have a supercharger on it which made it pretty quick off the line.

DeanT - Posted - 01/05/2017:  18:59:07

and windshield washer hooked to the spare tire...

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/05/2017:  19:25:40

....and running boards for push starting it

dmiller - Posted - 01/06/2017:  00:08:37

Back in the mid 1970's and early 1980's when I was poor and had no extra money for things like a good battery for the car come winter time, I made sure I parked on an incline so I could roll the car down hill and jump start it if needed.  Those were the days.  I don't miss them.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/06/2017:  02:54:35

Don't forget the ice scraper for the inside of the windshield.

DeanT - Posted - 01/06/2017:  06:12:56

or the plywood over the holes in the floor

OM45GE - Posted - 01/06/2017:  06:46:58

I remember the battery shorting out when someone sat in the back seat. A little cap had fallen off the positive terminal.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/06/2017:  07:20:57

I had a little Sunbeam Alpine when I was 17 and slid into another car at a slippery stoplight (my one and only accident) ,knocking out the headlights. For a month I would drive to work in the morning with magnetic flashlights on the front fenders. Cops didn't say boo.

DeanT - Posted - 01/06/2017:  08:00:52

I hope you didn't just jinx yourself!

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/06/2017:  09:08:25

Yikes - didn't think of that. Yeah, never say my "one and only".

DeanT - Posted - 01/06/2017:  11:05:45

My last accident was a teenager texting... turned left right in front of me. Wham. Could have been a lot worse, I could have been a simi and flattened her.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/06/2017:  11:10:24

My last accident was two years ago when I hit black ice and totaled my BMW convertible. sad

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/06/2017:  11:18:08

I almost bought it a few years ago with the truck and loaded trailer hitting some black ice. I felt the trailer sliding sideways and just got it straightened out a bit when I hit bare pavement again. Good thing nothing was coming the other way- I was on a two lane highway in the BC's Kootenay Mountains.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/06/2017:  11:57:43

I've had a couple of those in trailers too. One of the oddest ones happened when a freezing rain started falling and coating everything. I decided to get off the highway and let the sanders do their job. I pulled into a shopping center parking lot and set the brakes. I was doing paperwork when I felt like I was moving. I looked up and realized that the whole rig was sliding sideways across the lot right toward a light pole. I was just a passenger along for the ride. I slid about 50' and thankfully stopped about 10' from the light pole.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/06/2017:  12:13:43

That's an eerie feeling when you're on ice ,,feels like you're just helplessly floating

OM45GE - Posted - 01/06/2017:  12:53:01

I had another time when I was coming up with 40,000 of motorcycles through Connecticut on I-84 in a light rain. I got to the top of a big hill before you get to Waterbury and turned my wipers on and it was glare ice on the windshield! Worse, the wipers crazed the ice so I couldn't see a thing. I didn't dare touch the brakes so I turned the defroster on high and held a steady speed until I could see. When I got down the hill it was warm enough that the road was just wet.Very high pucker factor on that one.

DeanT - Posted - 01/06/2017:  15:21:41

The chain reaction videos I've seen on the highways are a nightmare...

OM45GE - Posted - 01/07/2017:  09:47:38

You try not to think of those when you're driving a tractor trailer in crappy conditions.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/07/2017:  11:01:28

That's why I started taking winters off - that and the fact that I've been working forever and want some down time where it's warm

OM45GE - Posted - 01/07/2017:  12:51:25

Sounds like a great plan.

DeanT - Posted - 01/07/2017:  17:16:36

I stay home.... aint taking my little Honda on the highway in the snow no how no way!

OM45GE - Posted - 01/07/2017:  20:21:52

I actually like driving in the snow if there isn't a lot of traffic.

DeanT - Posted - 01/07/2017:  20:42:58

I hate all the stupid chemicals they put on the roads... makes it all a nasty mess

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/07/2017:  23:38:08

Eats away at the car's metal..back east where I lived there were lots of rust buckets driving around. Out west they use some de-icer in the cities, but just sand everywhere else. It gets too cold for salt to do much good.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/08/2017:  04:56:30

I think those chemicals cause a lot of respiratory problems that most people blame on colds. I know they bother me, especially after the roads dry out and the dust from them blows around.

DeanT - Posted - 01/08/2017:  06:36:07

it's good for the car wash business

OM45GE - Posted - 01/08/2017:  16:52:44

Good point.

DeanT - Posted - 01/09/2017:  03:02:52

car washes must be pretty good moneymakers, they are all over town

OM45GE - Posted - 01/09/2017:  03:12:12

We only have one in town for some reason, but there are quite a few fairly nearby.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/09/2017:  08:40:14

If mine is really dirty I use the self-serve and keep feeding it quarters (or loonies in Canada)

DeanT - Posted - 01/09/2017:  10:33:50

I always used the self serve and love the wax option

OM45GE - Posted - 01/09/2017:  14:52:04

I don't like getting the wax on the windows.
