(Rationally I know you can break your ankle doing other thing and that there are other injuries that can happen while skiing--and that some people even ski without injuring themselves.)

The keyboard player from one of the rock bands I was in years ago fell skinning and. Got a "barber pole" leg fracture where the break was a spiral that went completely around the bone. It put me off skiing for a while and he never skied again.

I fell barefoot waterskiing, and kicked the back of my head....

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/17/2015:  13:23:42

I was waterskiing once when the guy driving the boat swung wide and got me heading for some protruding rocks on the lake. I could've killed him! I managed to swerve a couple of times to avoid them, but just barely.

DeanT - Posted - 01/17/2015:  15:12:27

He could have killed you!

OM45GE - Posted - 01/17/2015:  17:00:47

Sounds like he was trying to. Maybe he didn't like banjo players.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 01/17/2015:  17:03:32

I tried water skiing once but I don't really have the upper body strength for  and I kept loosing my grip on the rope.

I gave up finally when the skis crossed in front of me and hit my legs just above the knees.  I had grapefruit sized bruises for a couple weeks after.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/17/2015:  17:21:45

Ouch!

Not really - I think he was trying to make time with my wife, who was in the boat with him.....why I shoulda.......

OM45GE - Posted - 01/17/2015:  18:47:54

So he was trying to kill you, he just had a different motive.

DeanT - Posted - 01/17/2015:  22:51:00

Assuming there must have been beer involved

OM45GE - Posted - 01/19/2015:  03:10:30

Booze and boats isn't any better than booze and cars from a safety standpoint.

DeanT - Posted - 01/19/2015:  05:46:19

That doesn't seem to stop people

OM45GE - Posted - 01/19/2015:  06:33:28

Nope. We had two people killed on the lake a couple of years ago. One of the residents liked to do a post-sunset full speed blast around the lake well lubricated with liquor. There were four folks anchored off shore in their boat and he didn't see them in time.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 01/19/2015:  07:02:15

That's terrible.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/19/2015:  09:56:12

I'm not crazy about all these sea-doos either. But then I like quiet ,except for clangy banjo picking.

DeanT - Posted - 01/19/2015:  10:07:46

Not much waterworld action in Kansas... just wheat fields

OM45GE - Posted - 01/19/2015:  10:54:58

Seas of waving grain?

I learned years ago that a strategically casted (hookless)  "little george" would keep jet skis and see doos away,

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/19/2015:  16:16:38

Please explain "little george"?

OM45GE - Posted - 01/20/2015:  03:24:54

He probably means the fishing lure.

dat - Posted - 01/20/2015:  06:14:42

pretty much a 1/2 oz or 3/4 oz chunk of lead with a hook and a spoon, you can cast for a mile

You must have to crank like a fiend to keep it off the bottom.

dat - Posted - 01/20/2015:  09:40:24

you do, and it'll find every rock, branch and stump out there

My sister's kids are getting harder to shop for at Christmas as they get older.  The middle two, in particular (boy 16, girl 15), have gotten to a point where they'd really prefer just to get money or gift cards.  I don't like gift cards because I don't like quantifying how much I think someone is worth.  This year I found these really beautiful bracelets for the girls (on sale for $10--marked down from $40!!!) so I wanted to get something nice for my nephew that would be kind of equivalent.

I found a vintage lure from Sounth Bend, IN (which is where they live).  He really liked it.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/22/2015:  06:46:50

I think South Bend used to make reels too

dat - Posted - 01/22/2015:  08:45:41

here is a vintage south bend fly rod fer ONLY 280.00

ebay.com/itm/like/290920187210...mp;chn=ps

that would be a nice gift   approve

OM45GE - Posted - 01/22/2015:  08:55:29

That's cool. I wonder what condition the wood is in. My dad had a couple of old bamboo rods but they weren't stored properly and were so brittle you could barely handle them.

dat - Posted - 01/22/2015:  09:06:30

no tellin about that,  I have bought a few things off of e bay,  I have learned to ask more specific questions,  some things I've bought the seller knew something wasn't quite right with the product but answered the questions I asked truthfully

OM45GE - Posted - 01/22/2015:  10:47:54

I've done OK on eBay too. I've made a few mistakes but usually don't. I got a brand new high-end Martin guitar once for about 1/3 the list price The seller (a music store) had relisted it after it failed to meet it's reserve but forgot to put a reserve on the new listing. They honored the sale. I played it for a few years and then doubled my money when I sold it to another music store. That put a smile on my face for sure.

Pickin' today, later on. Bluegrass fest at Casa Grande,AZ this weekend. It was in the mid 70's all week til it cooled off a bit yesterday and today. Have a nice weekend, folks.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 01/23/2015:  09:30:46

We're supposed to be getting some icky weather tomorrow.  Monday is the first day of our Spring semester, so all our registration offices and financial aid offices and counseling were supposed to be open tomorrow for last minute registrations.  They're not sure if they're going to have to cancel or not.

60's for Kansas this weekend. Sucky week for me, car in shop twice, tooth pulled yesterday

dat - Posted - 01/23/2015:  14:07:57

having a tooth pulled probably makes you want a jug of jim beam

OM45GE - Posted - 01/23/2015:  15:04:03

I take the Jim Beam and skip the tooth pulling.

dat - Posted - 01/23/2015:  15:16:57

been one of those weeks,    I could slip off in a half gallon pretty easy this weekend if I let myself

DeanT - Posted - 01/23/2015:  17:26:50

I wish I could do the JB! The tooth pull wasn't an option, just glad it's over

OM45GE - Posted - 01/23/2015:  18:15:58

It has been the week from hell. Maybe the stars are aligned wrong.

My son has been home sick with the flu since last Saturday. He's getting better and now I feel sick. I Shure hope I'm wrong.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/23/2015:  22:17:49

Try taking astragalus and oregano oil, Bill. It might not prevent it now anymore, but it won't be as severe or last as long - in my experience anyway. I hate getting sick out on the road ,so I take a few supplements regularly. Also echinacea drops. Good luck with that.

DeanT - Posted - 01/23/2015:  22:40:55

My wife and I had the flue over New Years, it was really bad. Man I hope it passes quickly Bill

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 01/24/2015:  06:46:16

I have a friend who swears by oregano oil,  I decided to try it.  It was a real pain trying to find some and the first stuff I got was "not approved for oral consumption" which I didn't notice until after my first dose. (Not that anything happened.  But that stuff wasn't cheap and I wished I'd seen that before I bought it.)

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/24/2015:  07:09:13

Oh, wow,not good Jennifer. I buy it from the vitamin shelf at any drug store or health food store. It's supposed to be taken sublingually, and I mix a bit of water with it so it doesn't "bite".

DeanT - Posted - 01/24/2015:  07:09:45

My wife made Chicken Soup, that really helped

OM45GE - Posted - 01/24/2015:  08:13:07

Thanks for all the advice. So far I'm still doing ok. Just a little sore throat still. We're getting a nice snowstorm. Six inches so far.

DeanT - Posted - 01/24/2015:  16:16:31

Over 60 degrees today... I'm so jealous! I love winter.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/25/2015:  04:37:59

Come on up Dean. They're predicting one to two feet Monday into Tuesday.

DeanT - Posted - 01/25/2015:  07:39:15

Trade ya! They are predicting 70 degrees Mon-Wed...
