I've always been crazy, but it keeps me from going insane.     theres a song in there somewhere

OM45GE - Posted - 04/27/2015:  15:47:02

A good start for sure.

DeanT - Posted - 04/27/2015:  17:05:34

I haven't lost the ability to run a marathon, so that proves I'm insane

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/27/2015:  17:19:49

You mean that when you do lose the ability to run marathons, you'll become sane? 😎

DeanT - Posted - 04/27/2015:  22:18:41

Nope, I'll become a cyclisttongue

dat - Posted - 04/28/2015:  05:39:58

I never learned to ride a unicycle

DeanT - Posted - 04/28/2015:  05:42:46

I tried, and failed

OM45GE - Posted - 04/28/2015:  05:51:51

Looks like fun though.

He's back into hiding again...

dmiller - Posted - 04/28/2015:  21:27:37

Now you see him - - - then you don't.

dmiller - Posted - 04/28/2015:  21:31:59

Time and again - - I go into different folks profiles (mine included), and I see a lot of names of people who used to post here but don't anymore.  I'm not saying this site is on the skids, or down and out - - but it sure was a helluva lot more "vibrant" and interactive "in the day".

DeanT - Posted - 04/28/2015:  22:16:36

Forums are pretty much ancient history. It's all facebook and similar now

OM45GE - Posted - 04/29/2015:  04:02:49

I'm not a big fan of Facebook. I have to have a profile because of work but I don't really enjoy it. I prefer special interest forums like the BHO, I do agree that they're on the wane.

DeanT - Posted - 04/29/2015:  05:47:08

Took me a long time to warm up to Face Book, but now I prefer it. It's whatever you make it. I used to visit a dozen forums for all my interests, it took forever to wade through it all. On Facebook I hit all my interests, get my news, update with my friends, etc, in a matter of minutes, all in one place. I'm down to this and another forum, and they are dying.

dat - Posted - 04/29/2015:  05:49:03

I was on facebook for about a week, then canceled it, I didn't care for it much. not trying to hide anything, but just seemed like to much info out there

flake - Posted - 04/29/2015:  06:17:35

I was on Facebook for about a year, then people found out. I got two friends requests and promptly shut down my account. Too much interaction for me. ;-)

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/29/2015:  08:05:59

I'm on Facebook, but I still find it kind of creepy - so much personal stuff out there for the world to see. I'm a bit of a private person anyway, so even going on forums was a big deal.
I was checking out an old gal pal from years ago on FB just to see how she was doing after all these years. Well, FB automatically runs your name and pic on top of their homepage as "people you might know". Next time I checked, her and her husband hid their FB. Kind of feel like they think you're cyber stalking, which wasn't the deal at all. Creepy.

dat - Posted - 04/29/2015:  10:14:19

yeah, I didn't like the people you might know thing,  I have friends that don't know other friends I know, I always kinda liked to disappear for a weekend and nobody but my bride know where I am

DeanT - Posted - 04/29/2015:  11:16:11

I've purged my facebook account and started over twice now. It gets out of control if you don't keep a handle on it. Took me about 6 month to really learn how to manage it and make it what I wanted.

I enjoy facebook a lot, for many of the reasons you stated here.  Also I have a number of friends who I'm not really close enough to that I would send letters or emails to, but on facebook I can basically keep up with their lives.

There are definitely people who share too much, and there have been a number of people I've blocked for one reason or another.  And the "people you might know" obviously mined my hotmail emails without my permission because one of the people facebook suggested was my former housemate, who is not someone I ever want to have contact with.  She wasn't even on my list of contacts.  I just had a couple of emails from her that I was keeping in case she got ugly (she thinks I owe her money, I think she owes me money...) and tried to sue me or something.

DeanT - Posted - 04/30/2015:  06:25:11

Yep. People freek out over facebook, and can be too nice. I don't hesitate to block hide delete and cancel anyone one or anything I don't want or like. If you don't like something, it's because you allow it. Simply don't. You create your own site, and you are your own moderator.

OM45GE - Posted - 04/30/2015:  06:33:01

I do use it to keep track of family, people and events. I have no problem blocking people except that some of my family members have interesting opinions and interests and are prolific posters of crap I have no interest in.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 04/30/2015:  08:26:39

Yeah.  I will admit my older sister was the "sharing of cute pictures" queen--to a point where FB sent her several warnings that they were going to freeze her account for spamming.  When she would go on, my newsfeed would just be a massive string of pics she shared.  But I didn't want to completely block her because sometimes she actually shared something relevant I wanted to comment on.

dat - Posted - 04/30/2015:  08:47:10

my sister would let everybody know that she was about to get up from the computer and get a cup of coffee, and then let everybody know that she was back and what all happened to the trip back and forth from the kitchen

DeanT - Posted - 04/30/2015:  12:49:11

what, no video of the kitchen trip?

dat - Posted - 04/30/2015:  14:48:01

I wouldn't bet against it, but I didn't read about enough of her ventures after reading the first couple

DeanT - Posted - 04/30/2015:  15:29:48

One thing I really like about FB is how easy it is to upload video and photos. Much better than the old forums

OM45GE - Posted - 04/30/2015:  16:48:29

Sounds like your sister was spending more time writing at her life than living it. I wonder if she knows my sister.

Some days I still feel like a paid tourist,, here's a couple of lakes in northern Ontario I stopped at yesterday. 60*F , but lots of ice to thaw yet. On my way home after stops in Albert Lea, Minnesota, Olathe, Kansas, Montreal, Quebec.

DeanT - Posted - 05/01/2015:  09:13:36

Send the coolness to Kansas!

dat - Posted - 05/01/2015:  10:04:20

79* F here, no ice

DeanT - Posted - 05/01/2015:  13:23:32

My lovely wife recently put a ice cube tray on the hot stove (forgot to turn it off) and it didn't take long for there to be no ice, a little steam, and ewey-gooey melted plastic

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/01/2015:  13:27:23

I'm getting new carpeting today.  I put the dogs into the kennel so they wouldn't drive us nuts barking all day.  The guys need to finish up soon or I won't have time to pick up the dogs tonight.

They've got two staircases yet to do.

dat - Posted - 05/01/2015:  13:27:24

my bride left a dish rag on the stove last week,  (glass top stove) she had left the burner on low

dat - Posted - 05/01/2015:  13:31:24

a night dogless,   what will the cats do?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/01/2015:  14:02:43

Poor cats have been shut in the basement all day, listening to pounding and other scary noises.  They're probably ready to mutiny at this point.  No dogs might just make it easier.

I have some pyrex bowls and I go through the tops of those like nobody's business.  I've melted a couple on hot burners (I use my stove so infrequently I tend to forget and put things on the burners before they're cool).  Most of them, though, the dog has eaten.  I make soup and take the top off when it's done.  If I forget to put it into the sink, Fiona counter surfs and takes it off and chews it.  Thank goodness they sell tops separately.

dat - Posted - 05/01/2015:  14:09:37

Just think about how scared the cats will be after hearing the noises all day, then coming out and seeing......................no dogs, what happened to the dogs, all that pounding go rid of the dogs.................cat panic time

chuckv97 - Posted - 05/01/2015:  15:01:28

I like Krazy Kats. ,,, they're entertaining

DeanT - Posted - 05/01/2015:  15:17:30

We pulled all our carpeting up like 8 years ago. Below it was 70 year old hardwood floors, so that's how we left it. All we do now is sweep. Love it.

OM45GE - Posted - 05/01/2015:  15:19:56

Toby likes cats but I don't think he really knows what he would do if he caught one.

My house was built in 1895, and I bought it 35 years ago.  Pulled up the carpeting that

was here then, and even though the hardwood floors need a bit of work (refinishing),

it was worth it and have only used "area" rugs since.

DeanT - Posted - 05/01/2015:  23:07:54

our floors could use a little work too, but it would be crazy with all the dogs we have. For now they are fine.
