I've also met good people that came from rotten families, because they made good choices.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/21/2014:  08:27:15

That's true for sure Dean.

DeanT - Posted - 07/21/2014:  12:17:30

And then there's the preacher's daughter....

OM45GE - Posted - 07/21/2014:  12:54:12

Speaking from experience?

chuckv97 - Posted - 07/21/2014:  12:57:56

I was just going to mention preachers' kids. So many I knew or heard about went the wrong way. The bar was set too high for them probably.

dat - Posted - 07/21/2014:  14:27:27

I found out that if you aim low, you're bound to hit your mark

OM45GE - Posted - 07/21/2014:  15:28:50

Set the bar low and crawl under it.

DeanT - Posted - 07/21/2014:  23:08:15

I stumbled out of the bar a lot

OM45GE - Posted - 07/22/2014:  02:57:11

Haven't done that in many moons

dat - Posted - 07/22/2014:  06:17:42

I didn't go to bars much, but I staggered around the hunting cabin and piloted my boat up and down the river quite impaired

chuckv97 - Posted - 07/22/2014:  07:43:35

Did you hit any sand-"bars" on the river?.............. groan

dat - Posted - 07/22/2014:  09:42:54

I did skid my boat through the back doors of the beer joint once when the water was up.  another time I had to drag my boat out of a tree top,   I missed a turn and ran up the bank and into a bush/ tree,   my boat was sitting about 4 feet up in the air in the brush top.  no tellin how many stumps, logs and sand "bars"

OM45GE - Posted - 07/22/2014:  10:22:00

Like this?

dat - Posted - 07/22/2014:  10:38:46

almost, but somehow we were sitting level, still holding our drinks

DeanT - Posted - 07/22/2014:  11:45:10

I have a scar from falling out of the back of a boat... that ran a ground.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/22/2014:  11:52:40

We had a guy on the lake we used to keep the boat at who had a really fast and loud inboard. He liked to take it around the lake at top speed after dark. It was sort of an annoying nightly ritual. Two years ago he ran over an anchored boat 50' from shore and killed two people and injured two more. I feel lucky I never did anything like that back in the day.

dat - Posted - 07/22/2014:  13:06:04

you are right about that,  I am very lucky I didn't hurt anybody else in my wilder years,   I could live with it when I hurt myself when drinking, but I'm sure glad I never did anybody else

OM45GE - Posted - 07/22/2014:  13:31:15

You said it.

DeanT - Posted - 07/22/2014:  16:12:52

Me to. I totaled a car and had to buy the city a new guard rail. Lesson learned to the tune of 12 stitches to sew my lip back together, and a BIG BIG fine. I didn't have to go to jail because I was bleeding too much, and the cops didn't want me in their car.

chuckv97 - Posted - 07/22/2014:  18:46:48

I got sewn up for 12 stitches, and THEN they took me to the hoosegow

DeanT - Posted - 07/22/2014:  18:59:18

They took  my license for a year. Boy did I become a good driver then...

dat - Posted - 07/23/2014:  05:50:39

you're better off if you get pulled over and never had a license than to get pulled over and have a revoked license

DeanT - Posted - 07/23/2014:  06:02:09

experience?

dat - Posted - 07/23/2014:  07:46:52

most of my friends had bad habits too

OM45GE - Posted - 07/23/2014:  11:46:52

We were sitting at a stop light once with about a case of empties in the back and half a rack of full ones. A car came up and just barely tapped our bumper. The guy riding shotgun rolled out of the door and started yelling "Whiplash, whiplash!" at the top of his lungs. The car that hit us was the cops. That didn't end well.

DeanT - Posted - 07/23/2014:  12:11:52

I hate it when the cops pour out your beer on the ground....

dat - Posted - 07/23/2014:  12:49:37

or make you pour it out yourself.

but.............. pouring it out was better than having to ride back with him.   another time I had a highway patrol officer give me a ride home, and left me his card to if I needed a ride back to my truck after I sobered up.  I have been lucky many times that I should have been in jail.  these days I wouldn't be so lucky, they aren't near as lenient as they used to

OM45GE - Posted - 07/23/2014:  13:24:30

zero tolerance

DeanT - Posted - 07/23/2014:  15:05:27

Our police chief was one of my Dad's best friends. That didn't work out so well sometimes...

dat - Posted - 07/23/2014:  15:11:19

high school graduation night we were all loop legged and liquored up and decided to redesign the pain theme on a local bridge just out of town, the spotlight hit me in the middle of a krylon squirt and the deputy called us all down, we couldn't hardly walk much less drive.   I asked the deputy if he had ever painted on a bridge and he started laughing, then told us to be careful and he left

chuckv97 - Posted - 07/23/2014:  16:03:01

I've always wanted to paint the town red - literally.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/24/2014:  03:05:08

There was a dance club the next town over from where I grew up called "Hullabaloo". The name was on the top of the building in steel letters about 4 feet high. One of my friends decided they would look better on top of our high school. He actually got the "H" off, loaded into his VW Beetle and onto the high school. He was back unbolting the "U" when the cops pulled up.

DeanT - Posted - 07/24/2014:  06:16:55

The cops spared him from a very long night...

The only thing notable we ever did was put a dead skunk in the trophy case

OM45GE - Posted - 07/24/2014:  06:22:20

A buddy of mine and I took all the screws out of all the desks in a high school classroom and carefully balanced them so they looked ok. I got a week of no school for that one.

dat - Posted - 07/24/2014:  07:13:31

my nephew let loose two crates of chickens one night upstairs at his highschool

DeanT - Posted - 07/24/2014:  13:05:51

We did the screw removal to one of our co-worker's locker in the AirForce. Worked perfect. He even mentioned it at his retirement over 20 years later.

I learned the hard way not to pour five gallons of gasoline down a storm drain at the top of the street and then toss in a match.

DeanT - Posted - 07/24/2014:  18:52:18

I had to use all my gas for my lawn mowing business. Not bad for a 6th grader...

OM45GE - Posted - 07/25/2014:  06:09:22

I was just starting my first garage band in sixth grade.

dat - Posted - 07/25/2014:  08:09:52

sixth grade I was skipping school and going fishing, and drinking by bro in laws beer while on the river

DeanT - Posted - 07/25/2014:  12:54:18

I was delivering papers and mowing lawns, saving up the money I needed for a car. By 14 I was putting bikes together for the local Schwinn shop.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/25/2014:  17:31:23

Our band manager was ambitious like you. He got $200 from his grandmother when he graduated high school. He went to a leather supply company and spent it all on leather. He spent the summer making leather backpacks and the spent the fall selling them up north at ski areas. He made about $5,000.

I spent the summer smoking pot and didn't earn a dime.

chuckv97 - Posted - 07/25/2014:  19:00:52

In the sixth grade it was 1960- no pot but some homemade wine in my friend's basement. Got silly and sick.

DeanT - Posted - 07/25/2014:  19:02:59

I didn't become a boozer until I was working for Cessna as an aircraft mechanic. I could finally afford it.

chuckv97 - Posted - 07/25/2014:  19:10:14

I started boozing a bit during the last 2 years of high school. The drinking age in NY State was 18 , and 21 in Ontario where I lived. So a lot of us Canadian high school kids went "over the river" on weekends to whoop it up- we lived only 15 miles from Niagara Falls. Back then the border guards or cops didn't bother us- they'd chuckle and tell us to drive careful.

DeanT - Posted - 07/25/2014:  23:45:49

I drank in high school, but it wasn't frequent. I couldn't justify the cost, and was usually too tired. We would sneak it into the roller rink, but we skated it off before it got us in trouble...

dat - Posted - 07/26/2014:  08:04:01

when is the last time you've been in a roller rink?  probably been 30 years

dat - Posted - 07/26/2014:  08:10:52

this man still amazes me with his guitar.   youtube.com/watch?v=w8Ri4YBDnt...;index=14

dat - Posted - 07/26/2014:  10:04:53

then fer a laugh, these two were always good youtube.com/watch?v=K-ba9rIoyNw

DeanT - Posted - 07/26/2014:  14:48:50

Man I haven't heard that since my two stepping days... and I had to get good and trashed to dance...

As for roller rinks... at least 30 years probably 35
