I resisted getting a cell phone for the longest time.  I only got one because of my Dad's failing health about 10 years ago - - needing to be in immediate contact with them if and when something happened. A flip cell phone is all I have now (no land line anymore), and don't see the need for a "smart phone". I bought  mine to make phone calls on, and nothing else.

Yep, we ditched land lines in 2002 and went cell phone. I still have mine, but my wife has gone full blown iphone. I have no interest in an iphone whatsoever.

I was really apprehensive (read - - scared) to get rid of the land line.  It's what I grew up with, and what I was used to.  Like I said - -  Progress tapped me on the shoulder to move on over, and it turned out O.K.

I've got two iPhones, my own and one that is my work phone. I don't use a land line for either work or home.

my bride and girls kept on me about getting a cell phone, I finally did.  one day driving home from work by truck broke down, fuel pump.   I tried to call everybody over and over and never got the first to answer, after sitting on the road for a while my bride was coming home and saw my truck and pulled over.   she asked  "why didn't you call? "   then I told her   "look at your phone"     I have the phone somewhere, but the battery is probably dead

Mine is a cheapo $40 Samsung fliptop, my dispatcher's voice is so muffled and distorted that I hardly ever talk to her,,,just send messages via satellite. Other people's voices are ok though, just her headset must be cheap.

When I was driving - before cell phones and satellite communications, one of the things I liked about it was not having a boss around. Now, they are practically in the cab with you.

my ringer is turned off, that way if I loose it, I can't call it to see where it is,  but I do wish we had a ringer on the TV remote,  my bride will put that thing in rooms all over the house where there isn't a TV,   or I do, not sure which

When my son was a toddler he put the TV remote inside a subwoofer i had hooked up to the stereo. I didn't find it until we moved six years later - long after I bought the replacement.

I've been in the same house for 35 years now, but before that I moved from one house to another several times (the college age years).  Each time I moved, I always found stuff I thought I had lost.

we're thinking about selling and moving, getting something smaller, may be even building a small dog trot house with a porch front and back and putting french doors on each end of the dog trot and close it off in the winter and putting a wood stove in the middle.

the kids are gone, if we don't have room they can't come back

I haven't rented in 3 years. The cost of apts. in Calgary is crazy and I'm only home a few days per month, so I get a motel on my days off or visit one of my daughters. I tell people I'm homeless...

I have piles and piles of books.  Used to be I would reread books a lot, but lately I've been reading so much new stuff that I haven't reread anything in forever.  Some of the older books I have I've been thinking maybe I should get rid of.

But I have actually gotten rid of books in the past that I thought I would never reread only to buy another copy later because I want to reread it.

I have boxes of books too, I sometimes start to re read them, but as I start reading my mind goes forward in the book through to the end and I put the book up,   I need to give them away

It's got a gate that opens with your smart card, and the unit has a lock o'course. Lots of cams outdoors also.

I think you're right. A 5 X 10 (50 square feet) storage unit is about $100 here. An expensive 1,500 square foot apartment is around $2,000 or 2/3 the cost.

We've got a lot of them around here that are basically rows of cinder block cubes with a single pitch roof and metal roll up doors. There's no heat or plumbing or fancy trim so they're probably a lot less expensive to put up than a house.

Good question. There used to be a tv show about people who bid on the rights to abandoned storage units. As I recall, they could only look in from outside before bidding.

That show (Storage Wars) is still on TV.  A couple of the clients at the home I work at watch it every once in a while.  It's one of those "reality shows" you don't put much credence in - - but it's cheap entertainment if you've nothing better to do. Personally I think the show is all staged and "made for TV" - - even though real auctions like that do happen when folks don't pay up.

I think if someone had anything of value in a storage building, they would get it out before the lease was up.   after the lease is up, they probably leave a building full of trash that they didn't want to haul off
