I have the same rig as shown in the pic above... I'm a master at it. If you time it right, you can even omit the rake...

dat - Posted - 06/12/2012:  07:45:51

or just tie one of the plastic grocery bags under their tails

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/12/2012:  09:04:05

My younger dog is convinced that she shouldn't poop when she's on her leash. When we went home for Christmas last year we stopped over night and I wouldn't let her off leash at the hotel. I could tell she really needed to go, but she was really uptight about it and wouldn't go and wouldn't go. When she finally pooped she looked really guilty about it.

My older dog will only poop once a day, if that. Unless you take him for a walk in which case he turns into a pooping machine and is stopping constantly.

dat - Posted - 06/12/2012:  09:05:45

you can always tell when they go into "The Spin"

paulac7 - Posted - 06/12/2012:  10:05:32

My Blue-Tick mix does 'The Spin' (love that phrase), then proceeds to go the whole way across the yard from the spin zone, *then* drops anchor......

My smallest female can walk over two miles playing the maybe-maybe-no not here-maybe-maybe-no not here game. If a leave blows in the wind, she has to start all over.

dat - Posted - 06/12/2012:  10:56:15

good thing about not having a fenced yard,  the dogs don't want it to be in their yard either, so they head off to the woods

OM45GE - Posted - 06/12/2012:  11:17:12

I had trained my old Golden Retriever to poop in the tall grass instead of the lawn. I learned the first winter that I had so snow-blow a path to the field!

dat - Posted - 06/12/2012:  12:34:42

I'll bet a frozen dog doo makes some noise going through a snow blower.   at least it might not splatter if frozen.    we don't get many days below freezing here, something may freeze at night then thaw by dinner

paulac7 - Posted - 06/12/2012:  12:39:04

I have to make 'habitrails' in the front yard (its about a quarter of an acre fenced in )  with the snowblower for my dogs--up here on the ridge, we get some major driftage. At least they go off the paths to poo, then they go back in the paths, and I swear they are playing 'Hide and go Seek'.

my lab would back up to a bush when we were duck hunting, I think through the years he always stayed hid when he did his thing and when he was somewhere that there were people he was modest enough to go behind the bush and hide himself best he could.       the lab I had before him would stop anywhere with anybody around, she didn't care

DeanT - Posted - 06/12/2012:  13:58:19

I only wish we got some snow around here...

dat - Posted - 06/12/2012:  13:59:37

some rain would be nice about now

OM45GE - Posted - 06/12/2012:  15:08:41

Toby the Springer has no pride at all and seems to prefer the nices lawns in the neighborhooed.

DeanT - Posted - 06/12/2012:  15:56:55

Sometimes we fertilize the golf course across the street... I should charge them for the hi-pro fertilizer...

OM45GE - Posted - 06/13/2012:  04:21:25

Our town has leash and scooper laws which they enforce pretty enthusiastically. Toby tries to do his part with the fertilizing, but I pick it up and send it to the incinerator co-generation plant.

DeanT - Posted - 06/13/2012:  07:31:08

I only wish our town enforced their do-do rules. Our street can almost become a collection point for fertilizer donors. Interesting how it changes too... people get new dog, walk every day for a few weeks, then become too lazy, and never see them again.

dat - Posted - 06/13/2012:  08:13:27

I'm lazy without blaming my not walking on a dog

DeanT - Posted - 06/13/2012:  12:06:59

I'm lazy too... but my dogs won't let me not walk them

dat - Posted - 06/13/2012:  13:40:45

it's fun watching the dogs though, do you have a place to let them off the leash and let them run and chase squirrels and such

DeanT - Posted - 06/13/2012:  14:02:24

Yep! They are 40 mph of pure beauty! But they are done in a couple minutes! Then they sleep the rest of the day...

dat - Posted - 06/13/2012:  14:17:50

that makes it easier on you, dogs sleeping means nothing has to be walked

DeanT - Posted - 06/14/2012:  00:18:14

Sleeping dogs don't poo either

OM45GE - Posted - 06/14/2012:  05:00:33

I walk Toby about four miles a day. It's good for both of us. We have conservation land where I can let him run to his heart's content. It's fun to watch and he could go for hours.

Our next door neighbors have a Golden Retrieve and a nice in-ground pool. They let the dogs (and kids) swim in the pool and run around the enclosed yard while we sit around with a beer or gin and tonic. Great fun.

dat - Posted - 06/14/2012:  05:48:43

I need to get out and walk more, I do a lot of walking during the day, but doing the same thing every day isn't as good as doing a little extra

Ewwww!

We walk the perimeter of a golf course every day. We go down the street to the ball diamonds to let them run (city life is so wonderful...)

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/14/2012:  09:29:59

There's a guy in the neighborhood who has the most beautiful chocolate colored pitbull named Godiva. He mentioned that he likes to let her off leash in the batting cages at the park. I've done that once or twice with my dogs. Give Fiona a chance to really stretch her legs.

OM45GE - Posted - 06/14/2012:  09:47:24

It's nice to see them run.

He aint gonna catch any birds unless they accidentally fly into his tail...

OM45GE - Posted - 06/15/2012:  04:15:05

My last Springer was named Buddy. Both of them are (were) field bred although Toby's mother was from a long line of show champions. Both LOVE birds although I stopped hunting years ago.

dat - Posted - 06/15/2012:  06:30:49

I like hunting birds more than deer or squirrel hunting, it is getting to where I don't go near as much as I would like to though

OM45GE - Posted - 06/15/2012:  09:49:57

I just got to where I didn't enjoy it much anymore. I have too many hobbies as it is. I was going through an ugly divorce and gave all my guns to a friend for safe keeping and safety sake. When it was all over I just let him keep them.

DeanT - Posted - 06/15/2012:  10:41:54

I'm too much of a softie to go hunting. I couldn't kill an animal. Please don't tell me where hamburgers and bacon come from.

dat - Posted - 06/15/2012:  10:49:34

mmmmmmmm bacon,    bird hunting is fun and puts good tasting healthy food on the table.

hamburgers came from the ground meat section in the grocery store and bacon is just a little farther down in the packaged meat section.  walk in, pay the lady at the counter all the money you have in your pocket then walk out, then you have to walk home carrying the meat you just bought 'cause you can't afford enough gas to drive to the store.  nuthin to it

OM45GE - Posted - 06/15/2012:  12:09:40

For most folks it's a lot cheaper than hunting too!

dat - Posted - 06/15/2012:  12:24:50

TRUE!!!!!!!

hunting has gotten expensive

dat - Posted - 06/15/2012:  13:02:51

hunting and fishing both have gotten to where they cost a lot.    I believe they since they can't make hunting and fishing against the law, they just make it to where you can't afford to do it.  we used to the river and spend the day riding in the 14 ft flatbottom boat fishing all day when we didn't have the money to do other things. now it costs about $75 to do something that used to be about $10

DeanT - Posted - 06/15/2012:  17:02:05

Growing up on the farm (we had a huge back pond) and my Dad and his buddies would shoot the ducks. Too many to count. They would throw something at them to make them fly, just so it was somewhat sporting. I was just a little kid and it gave me night mares. I felt so bad for the ducks. And lets not talk about cyotes, unwanted dogs and cats, varmints etc. We butchered chickens too, and sent calves and goats to the slaughter house. I hated it, every bit of it. All I saw everywhere was pain cruelty and death death death. Although I've grow to know and understand it all, it has shaped my personality and soft spot for animal life. At 18 I left home, headed for the city, and never looked back.

OM45GE - Posted - 06/16/2012:  04:24:55

My dad was an avid hunter. He had a hunting camp in northern New Hampshire on a couple hundred acres of land. He once jokingly calculated that every pound of deer meat taken off the land cost him a couple of thousand dollars.

DeanT - Posted - 06/16/2012:  08:32:03

The lead singer in one of my bands lives out in the country... he has connections, often deer-car accidents etc. His freezer is always full of deer meat, we get a lot of it too. I love it.

OM45GE - Posted - 06/16/2012:  09:57:01

It is tasty for sure. I just don't want to do the killing part of it all.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/16/2012:  10:31:19

Only time I've ever had deer it wasn't all that good.

Of course, there was also the green turkey incident (from the same freezer) so I suspect the deer meat probably wasn't "prime" either.

And then there was the maggots in the spaghetti incident.

I was very glad when I quit that job.

DeanT - Posted - 06/16/2012:  10:44:27

Sounds like the freezer wasn't working too well...

OM45GE - Posted - 06/16/2012:  17:46:21

"Cooler" might be a better description.

DeanT - Posted - 06/16/2012:  18:28:01
