My ash tray in my car is also stuffed full of change

OM45GE - Posted - 06/22/2017:  03:12:29

My son and I were at a store recently. When I got out of the car I saw some change on the ground.  There was more under the car. When I backed out and picked it all up, there was almost $4.

sombodys piggy bank had a leak

OM45GE - Posted - 06/22/2017:  09:04:55

Well, it added to mine.

If we found a dime when we were kids it was great - a popsicle and 15 black balls

DeanT - Posted - 06/22/2017:  16:17:36

I'd take the dime and get two Snickers bars

OM45GE - Posted - 06/22/2017:  18:33:49

We used to look for returnable pop bottles on the side of the road and use them to get candy at the corner variety store.

DeanT - Posted - 06/22/2017:  18:52:32

I put in hundreds of mile on my old bike with baskets, looking for pop bottles

OM45GE - Posted - 06/23/2017:  03:12:21

We have a 5 cent deposit on carbonated beverage bottles and cans. The was a referendum to extend it to non-carbonated items but it failed. 90% of the litter I see is plastic water bottles.

DeanT - Posted - 06/23/2017:  10:19:50

kids could make a killing if they put 5 cent deposit on those plastic water bottles!

chuckv97 - Posted - 06/23/2017:  13:38:16

Dumpster divers in Alberta get coin for all bottles.

DeanT - Posted - 06/23/2017:  16:19:24

bumbs here gets all the beer cans from the golf course trash cans

OM45GE - Posted - 06/24/2017:  04:25:19

My son's marching band does two bottle drives a year. They net $4,000 to $5,000 a year.

DeanT - Posted - 06/24/2017:  06:55:36

That's easier than washing cars all day!

OM45GE - Posted - 06/25/2017:  03:46:05

It is a lot of work - they have to separate the glass bottles from the plastic and metal and hand sort out any non returnables. They have fun though.

DeanT - Posted - 06/25/2017:  07:59:02

It's way better than just standing on the street corner asking for donations. There was a youth football team doing that a couple weeks ago. They even hit me up, when I rode by on my bike.

OM45GE - Posted - 06/25/2017:  15:56:15

Yeah, I don't like the begging route, but usually do give if I recognize the group they're begging for.

chuckv97 - Posted - 06/25/2017:  19:42:44

The Girl Guides sometimes sell their cookies at truck stops. I always buy some.

DeanT - Posted - 06/26/2017:  02:08:24

They ambush us at Wal Mart around here!

OM45GE - Posted - 06/26/2017:  02:52:53

Hopefully they never discover robo telemarketing.

DeanT - Posted - 06/26/2017:  10:16:26

I haven't bought them in years... way to much $$ and way too few cookies. But I do run a 5K they put on, so they get me that way... and there are cookies at the finish line :)

OM45GE - Posted - 06/26/2017:  18:21:44

I don't really care for them but we always buy some from the neighbor's kids. The marching band does wreath and poinsettia sales before the holidays and they always support us so it's the least I can do.

chuckv97 - Posted - 06/26/2017:  19:54:14

I just give some dough to support them. Cookies are so-so.

OM45GE - Posted - 06/27/2017:  03:05:03

I've just given them cash too. Depends on my mood.

DeanT - Posted - 06/27/2017:  04:46:07

I used to hate it when guys at work would bring charity stuff for their kids to work, and expect everyone to sign up.

OM45GE - Posted - 06/27/2017:  10:21:40

Me too. My company doesn't allow it anymore. They can't even put something in an e-mail asking for donations or selling things.

chuckv97 - Posted - 06/28/2017:  16:30:34

It gets out of hand. They take advantage of being workplace friends, putting the squeeze on co-workers.

DeanT - Posted - 06/29/2017:  04:21:20

I used to hate the fund raiser where folks asked for donations for walking, bowling, running, biking, etc.

OM45GE - Posted - 06/29/2017:  15:06:46

None of that where I work. On the other hand I think they've gone overboard. One of my co-workers was burned out of their home a couple of years ago. They live in a big condo building in New Jersey and literally got out with the close on their backs. My boss sent out a note with a link to a relief fund account. The company picked it up with filtering and deleted them all and told my boss it would be a disciplinary matter if she did it again.

DeanT - Posted - 06/29/2017:  17:05:22

I used to hate the United Way fundraisers.

Joak: What's the difference between a Jehovah's Witness and a Freightliner?

Answer: You can close the door on a Jehovah's Withess.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/04/2017:  03:37:18

You know there's a banjo player at your door when the knocking keeps changing tempo, they don't have the key and don't know when to come in.

DeanT - Posted - 07/04/2017:  18:43:12

I had a lady just yesterday, tell me she liked the way I played my accordian

dmiller - Posted - 07/04/2017:  22:15:56

I used to date a woman who is an ex-Jehovah Witness.  She left her church long ago - - but still has residual beliefs/ thoughts / and actions that are due to her years of indoctrination  Old teachings/ indoctrination/ and years of cult "bashing you into submission"/  takes a long time to die and get out of your system..  She and I were a good match, because I was once in a cult very similar to hers but in the end - - it didn't work out between her and I.  She wanted to raise Alpacas, and I wanted to play fiddle.  We are both doing what we want to these days.

Anyway - - if you want to get rid of a JW knocking at your door - - ?

Invite them in and tell them you would LOVE to talk about their beliefs over a cup of coffee.

They DO NOT drink coffee, and will make excuses and leave immediately.

I had a couple of ladies (from a local Baptist Church) knock on my door once several years ago.  They were well dressed/ very polite/ and told me the church  they were from - - and then wondered if I "knew Jesus".  I have to confess - - I have a "weak spot" in my heart for folks who come to my door to "convert" me.  I will never turn them away/ will offer them drinks or "bathroom priviliges", etc. (it's tough being on the street and knocking on doors - - I used to do that too), but by the same token I like to keep them on their toes when they are at my house.

When the baptist ladies asked if I "knew Jesus" - - I said "Of course - - I do", and began to talk about speaking in tongues (You can find that in the book of Acts if you don't know already), and asking what their take on it was.  They couldn't leave fast enough.  Faster than when I offered the JW folks coffee!  cool

I did (briefly) have an ethical problem when a couple of Mormon missionary folks knocked on my door.  I talked to them (like I do everyone who shows up on my doorstep) and right before they left - - one of them said: "Hey - -  I see your house could use some paint.  (it did)  Would you like for us to get some of our congregation together to paint it for you.  We'd be glad to give you a hand to make it look better".  I wanted (in the worst way) to get free labor for the paint on the house - - but I had no intention of going to their church - - so I just smiled/ declined and thanked them for the offer.

Coffee is it's own religion

OM45GE - Posted - 07/05/2017:  15:20:50

I'm definitely a believer.

That would be a good name for a cafe.

DeanT - Posted - 07/06/2017:  04:37:51

I'm drinking my morning coffee as I type.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/07/2017:  03:11:53

What a coincidence, so am I.

chuckv97 - Posted - 07/07/2017:  06:31:28

As I am,, in McD's listening to old retired guys at the next table

DeanT - Posted - 07/07/2017:  10:17:22

Our local McD's has become a cyber cafe...

OM45GE - Posted - 07/07/2017:  13:14:53

Did you ever notice there aren't any pigeons around McDonald's restaurants?

DeanT - Posted - 07/07/2017:  14:52:24

They all died from eating the fries

chuckv97 - Posted - 07/07/2017:  19:32:47

My daughter used to get nauseous when we drove by a McDonalds and she could smell the food

DeanT - Posted - 07/08/2017:  02:44:07

I haven't been to a McD's in many many years.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/08/2017:  03:37:30

Nor have I. I never felt good after eating there- not sick, but not good.

chuckv97 - Posted - 07/08/2017:  07:13:18

I'm a walking toxic dump,,although I usually just get coffee and egg mcmuffins there,,once in a while some fries

I think a chocolate shake is about all I'd be willing to get, these days

OM45GE - Posted - 07/09/2017:  06:40:28

My wife occasionally brings home their wraps. They're not bad but I still don't feel great after eating one.
