I had a gun trained Golden Retriever who was terrified of thunder. A gun shot meant find the dead bird but a thunderclap would send him running to the bedroom where he would try to cram himself under the bed. Only his head would fit and he would lie there shaking until the storm passed.

yep! Ours are ok with fireworks, and jets from the AF base, but thunder sends them hiding and shaking

That same Golden was also terrified of grating. He would walk around storm drains and drop to the ground shaking if we came to a grated sidewalk that he couldn't see his way around.

That dog wasn't high strung in his demeanor just afraid of thunder and grates. He used to do other things that were pretty brave for a dog. He climbed the ladder on a slide at the local playground and then slide down. He would do it over and over.

Greyhounds are the opposite of high strung. They are low strung and spend 23 hours a day sleeping upside down on the couch

Our neighbors have a Wheaton Terrier who is so high strung he quivers when he tries to sit.

There is some sort of little terrier about the size of a big city rat who lives the next street over that makes me anxious it is so hyper.

THis one doesn't look like a Jack Russell. Probably a mix. It yaps at a painful pitch and volume whenever Toby and I come into sight. If it's in the house you can hear it half a block away even with the windows shut.

The head of the land speed record team I'm on has two Shih Tzu's and they're great little dogs. I,still prefer bigger dogs myself.

She was a stray who found us 3 years ago. We fell in love with her before we even got to the shelter. So we adopted her. I'm a big dog person, but love the little furball

yeah, the toilet is for drinking, dogs would rather drink cool water than warm, the toilet seems to keep it cooler than a stainless bowl

Speaking of weird dogs, Toby always carries something with him when he walks, usually a stick that he will leave outside and pick up when we head out. He has had his current favorite for about four months now. It's one third the size it was when he first found it from him chewing the ends. 

However, he found a pacifier on the ground last week and that's been his carry around of choice. I worried about him choking on it but it seems too big. He looks so stupid with it sticking out of his mouth.

A friend of mine had a female dog that used to chew beer bottle caps if you flipped them in the air. Her teeth were all worn down from the constant biting on metal. You'd hear her "clicking" away on those things for hours. She also through her unspaded life had many litters of pups - over 50 in all. She was a sort of beagle/terrier cross- what a crazy mutt.
