What sort of job is it?

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/22/2014:  08:38:19

I always thought I was a patient person, til I had a job dealing with people - in sales and teaching music. Not my forte.

OM45GE - Posted - 04/22/2014:  08:45:23

I'm definitely not patient with people and my job is dealing with them constantly.

service consultant at a car dealership,  I get to listen to people fuss about a car they paid to much for not working how they want it to

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 04/22/2014:  09:43:40

I'm not super excited about working with people but I can do it.

What really turns me off about my supervisor's job is that it's really more of a decision making and supervisory type position. I'm not sure I'm argumentative enough to handle the conflict when someone wants to do something stupid. And I would have a hard time being a disciplinarian to the people who are my coworkers now but would become my subordinates.

DeanT - Posted - 04/22/2014:  10:49:20

Take the job and tell them your new name is Donna Trump and if they are idiots they get fired.

I have a good friend who is the service manager at a BMW dealership. I don't know how he or you do it.

I manage people for much of mu career and didn't really care for it at all. I told my boss I wanted to be a direct contributor and have been happily doing so for the last five years. I wouldn't go back for anything.

it helps to have a good person at home when you get there, and it takes me 45 min to drive the 30 miles home, time to forget work before I step in the house,

OM45GE - Posted - 04/22/2014:  12:39:16

I bet it does. I like my train ride for the same reason. Work is gone by the time I get home.

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/22/2014:  19:49:10

Yeah, they always say , don't take it home with you

OM45GE - Posted - 04/23/2014:  03:20:24

I do work from home a lot. You can't get much closure walking upstairs from the office.

DeanT - Posted - 04/23/2014:  05:40:37

I left it all there when I retired

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 04/23/2014:  05:57:33

I used to have a longer commute, but it was all Beltway, so while I might have left the office stress behind I still had commute stress by the time I got home.

OM45GE - Posted - 04/23/2014:  07:04:19

I don't find driving in rush hour traffic.does much good for my stress levels. That's why it's the train for me.

Dean, I don't know if it was your intent, but you definitely made me envious! cool

dat - Posted - 04/23/2014:  08:43:53

ME TOO,  my brother was retired from the Air Force when he was my age, now he works for the FAA and makes 5 times a year what I do plus his retirement

OM45GE - Posted - 04/23/2014:  08:56:24

Just another example that I am proof God made more horses' asses than horses to put them on.

I've been called worse than that many times, so it's OK, he had to do something with the extra's that were made

I'm not rich, but I'm happy. I do have to admit, that every now and then rumors about SS and pensions and colas and all that scare the crap out of me and some of my retired friends. I'm living life to the hilt right now, while I'm healthy enough to do it... if the economy keeps getting worse, I may be a Wal-Mart greeter to make ends meet, but at least I had some really good times.

I was referring to myself so no offense intended!

dat - Posted - 04/23/2014:  13:39:48

Oh No, I didn't figure you did, that's where my typing doesn't go along with my thinking, I was just saying that you referring to yourself as that really isn't bad, I've been called worse by other folks

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/23/2014:  14:45:11

Yep- my name is Chuck, and some folks call me Charley. And others say "Chuck you ,Farley!"

OM45GE - Posted - 04/23/2014:  14:51:17

Do they ask you, "what's up Chuck?"

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/23/2014:  19:04:24

They don't DARE! I might offer them a sample.....

OM45GE - Posted - 04/24/2014:  02:47:34

LOL.

DeanT - Posted - 04/24/2014:  05:45:09

stupid fridge is dying...

OM45GE - Posted - 04/24/2014:  10:35:54

Don't you just love shopping for, and paying for, appliances? Personally I would prefer a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 04/24/2014:  11:12:36

I got a decent tax return back this year. I really desperately want a new dishwasher but I'm not looking forward to shopping for one. I also need a new garbage disposal. That's a sexy thing to shop for.

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/24/2014:  14:36:23

How do you take a garbage disposal for a test run?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 04/24/2014:  15:39:25

Usually on a leash. They're known to take off on their own otherwise.

DeanT - Posted - 04/24/2014:  16:34:46

I am our dishwasher.

OM45GE - Posted - 04/25/2014:  03:14:32

I don't mind hand washing the dishes but have gotten pretty spoiled by the dishwasher. They supposedly save water and energy over hand washing but I don't buy it. It's just convenient.

DeanT - Posted - 04/25/2014:  05:56:05

It's just my wife and I, and I can wash the dishes quicker than I can load the dishwasher. Or we just let the dogs do the dishes cheeky

OM45GE - Posted - 04/25/2014:  07:43:23

Now you need to teach them to put them away.

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/25/2014:  08:05:21

I once heard that a dog's tongue has antibiotics ,and it's very clean.

DeanT - Posted - 04/25/2014:  12:29:48

I still don't let them kiss me...

OM45GE - Posted - 04/25/2014:  15:17:11

Toby thinks goose poop is a treat. He can kiss someone else.

DeanT - Posted - 04/25/2014:  17:26:05

Goose poo is a Kansas main course for the dogs. I don't know why they haven't left for Canada yet...

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/25/2014:  17:30:52

We have too many and they know there's a "No Vacancy" sign at the border....

OM45GE - Posted - 04/25/2014:  18:19:08

We've got the transient who migrate north and south but there's a big population that don't go anywhere except between places they mostly aren't wanted.

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/25/2014:  18:25:59

Yeah  know. I think it's time for a major cull. They're nesting in flower beds at malls and other strange places cuz of overcrowding.

OM45GE - Posted - 04/25/2014:  18:36:48

The white tail deer are almost as bad around here.

DeanT - Posted - 04/25/2014:  19:50:40

Lots of deer in Kansas too... it's getting crazy to drive in the country after dark

OM45GE - Posted - 04/26/2014:  09:29:20

I was walking Toby before dawn the other day and five of them were standing the a neighbors yard. They just watched us walk by.

DeanT - Posted - 04/26/2014:  14:26:16

wild animals sure are getting tamer... we have raccoons in our city neighborhood, not scared of anything or anyone

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 04/27/2014:  04:42:11

Around here there are controlled hunts for deer but I think I heard that there are issues with doing the same with the geese. It's something about the fact that they might potentially be Canadian Canadian geese and not American Canadian geese. I think they were tracking them at some point to see if they could identify which ones stayed in the US and found that while many return to the same place year after year they would occassionally head to Canada, which meant we couldn't kill them. There was no rhyme or reason to why sometimes they'd head up north when they usually nested here.

Just about every year we have a few in this area that nest somewhere inconvenient, like next to a major door at a shopping center, and they have to post warning signs and stuff. Lasr year I wad going to a meeting at work and the parking lot was full. I got all excited when I saw a space but then I turned the corner and discovered it was because there was a goose nesting right next to it and they'd blocked off the space.

DeanT - Posted - 04/27/2014:  07:26:59

There are so many on the golf course across the street, they use gas powered blowers to clean the poo off the greens every morning.

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/27/2014:  18:23:26

Well the 2 countries' wildlife people should get together and find a solution, Canadian or USA geese. Can't remember for sure, but at one time the Canada Goose was a protected species here in Canada. I'll have to look it up to see if they still are.

DeanT - Posted - 04/27/2014:  23:08:02

You can have them all back protected or not. It's only been in the last several years that some of them stay around all year. It's still weird to see them in the summer.

OM45GE - Posted - 04/28/2014:  02:12:09

I let Toby chase them off the ball fields at the high school. Someone told me it's illegal but he sure enjoys it.
