over the years we got les and les trickertreaters... about 5 years ago, it was none, and haven't gotten one since. It's a thing of the past around here

OM45GE - Posted - 10/10/2016:  06:11:05

We get around 100 every year.

dat - Posted - 10/10/2016:  07:07:57

we usually don't have any come by, but our house is pretty much off the beaten track, if someone comes by, they either know us or are lost

DeanT - Posted - 10/10/2016:  10:18:30

we live on a lone street on the backside of a golf course. Only people that live here come down our road. All the kids in the neighborhood have grown and gone.

OM45GE - Posted - 10/11/2016:  02:40:59

We're in an area with lots of houses, lots of kids and safe streets. No surprise that we have a lot of trick or treaters.

DeanT - Posted - 10/11/2016:  05:18:00

Our local shopping mall offers public trickertreating, and a lot of kids go there

dat - Posted - 10/11/2016:  08:23:20

we would have to give out staplers and laundry soap like Walter Matthau did on grumpier old men

OM45GE - Posted - 10/11/2016:  08:25:39

Our next door neighbor travels a lot and is often gone at Halloween. He gives us a ton of candy and has us hand it out to the kids and tell them it's from next door too.

DeanT - Posted - 10/12/2016:  04:25:38

I like Halloween because it means the weather is turning nice and no more lawn mowing until next year

OM45GE - Posted - 10/12/2016:  05:07:05

It is a nice time of year.

dat - Posted - 10/12/2016:  05:44:53

our mowing has slowed down, but I need to mow now,   70^ F here this morning,  nice, but not long and I'll need a jacket

OM45GE - Posted - 10/12/2016:  06:01:39

Mowing has slowed here too. I do it about every other week now. I'll probably have two more mows and then it will be time to put the mower away and get the snow blower ready.

DeanT - Posted - 10/12/2016:  10:37:24

one more mow for me in about a month.... to mulch up all the leaves!

dat - Posted - 10/12/2016:  10:51:08

I used to mulch our leaves in teh winter,   not sure how that'll work with our new mower, it has enough wind that it blows out the debris 15 to 20 feet or so out,   not near as easy to just ride around and chop up stuff

chuckv97 - Posted - 10/12/2016:  12:13:55

Here in Calgary we've had a bit of snow this week- mostly melted now- and a fairly heavy frost last night. Driving past a golf course this morning they had their sprinklers on ,,go figure - ice on the greens!

dat - Posted - 10/12/2016:  12:20:14

time to park that rig fer tha winter, ice and snow ain't much fun for driving

DeanT - Posted - 10/12/2016:  13:05:05

if I get a good windy day to mulch the leaves... a lot of them blow onto the golf course

Another 5or 6 weeks, Daniel. Weather usually doesn't get too bad until December, plus I drive a lot of my miles in the U.S.

OM45GE - Posted - 10/13/2016:  02:32:36

Driving a semi in snow certainly focuses your attention.

dat - Posted - 10/13/2016:  05:47:01

a slip and slide was fun as a kid, not so much on the highway

It's hard wired in us to drive on snow and ice,,actually the highways are usually in good shape. Black ice is tricky though- can't see it til the last second. Mostly I don't like the deep cold anymore, nor the short daylight hours, driving in the dark so much.
Ice road driving would be pretty boring, 30 mph for days at a time with monotonous scenery. Team driving with her, though, would be cool.

OM45GE - Posted - 10/13/2016:  11:06:12

I didn't mind driving in bad winter weather. I just didn't trust other drivers.

dat - Posted - 10/13/2016:  12:42:52

same here,  I don't mind getting out in bad weather,  I just don't like other vehicles out while I'm out

actually, I don't like being out in cold nasty weather to start with,  but I would rather be driving in the mess than walking in it

OM45GE - Posted - 10/13/2016:  13:03:26

Back in 1978 I was driving home in a tractor trailer in a bad snowstorm. A car in front of me spun out in my lane and was spinning back towards me. I knew if I hit the brakes I would probably jackknife so I held steady and the car slowly spun into the lane beside me. I watched in my mirrors as a couple other cars slowly hit it and blocked the entire highway. I was about the last vehicle through. It turned out to be the famous Blizzard of '78 and the entire region was pretty much shut down for a week. I made it home and spent the week snowshoeing in the wood or sitting by the fire.

In southern Ontario and western New York State it was the blizzard of 1977. We were living way out in the country and were stormed-in for days.

77 hammered Michigan really bad too...county finally cleared our road with a front end loader, 2 weeks off from school. We sledded off our barn roof.

dat - Posted - 10/13/2016:  13:52:48

back in the early 80's we had a pretty good winter here, but usually it's pretty mild, snow once about every 3 or 4 years, sleet and ice may be once or twice a year,   just wet and cold

OM45GE - Posted - 10/13/2016:  14:46:27

I love the Texas snowman.

DeanT - Posted - 10/14/2016:  10:46:41

Wasn't Jerry Reed the Snowman hauling beer in Texarcana in Smokie and the Bandit?

dat - Posted - 10/14/2016:  10:48:22

yep, Cledus Snow,   tha Snowman   yes

chuckv97 - Posted - 10/14/2016:  10:50:17

Jerry was a great guitar player and writer before he got famous.

dat - Posted - 10/14/2016:  10:56:32

he wasn't bad, him and this other feller needed a little practice, but I think they finally did OK

If you get a chance, listen to his large catalogue of guitar tunes....great stuff, some from the early 1960's recorded by Chet.

I do a few of Chet's arrangements, Sittin' On Top of The World, Windy and Warm, Yankee Doodle Dixie, etc. I get to thinking I'm playing them well, then I go back and listen to Chester and get humbled.

DeanT - Posted - 10/14/2016:  14:22:42

three finger picking + thumb, no plant, and no index finger, that's bad ass

dat - Posted - 10/14/2016:  14:33:11

Ok, now here is a hard one, both great, but which is better?

She's a great player,,had one of her books with CD. I also liked her because she plays a classical ,like I do. Another good one playing fingerstyle on a classical is David Qualey..., and your guy, Bill - Guy Van Duser. Chet and Jerry did a lot of stuff on classical too. I used to fingerpick a steel string with fingerpicks, but went to nylon string classical using nails in the early 1990's.

OM45GE - Posted - 10/15/2016:  03:59:42

I just can't keep my nails in shape. I also prefer the sound of steel strings. Most of my guitars have classical string spacing, or close to it.

DeanT - Posted - 10/15/2016:  05:34:28

All this is way beyond me and my 5 string Telecaster, Keith Richards style

It's just the main direction my obsessive compulsive disorder took. cool

dat - Posted - 10/15/2016:  09:36:05

some electric is OK,    I could listen to SRV for a great long time     ( I had to look up to see who that Keith feller was  clown)

I can say though, that I have never tried to play anything electric,    I can't even get the unplugged stuff down yet
