Mornin Ya'll,          could be worth the drive depending on which Portland

OM45GE - Posted - 05/14/2012:  06:20:23

Morning.

We have plenty of choices: Maine, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, North Dakota, Indiana, Connecticut, Michigan, Arkansas, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri, and Kentucky all have Portlands.

In today’s world, distance is no longer an excuse...

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/14/2012:  07:03:33

Today I'm all spruced up because I'm meeting a BHO person and I want to make a good impression.

dat - Posted - 05/14/2012:  07:14:44

 MALE OR  FEMALE?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/14/2012:  07:23:17

See, I knew you'd take that the wrong way.

It's Chris! (Tango grass)

After years of playing with him in this thread, I figure I should at least make an effort to look like a respectable human being when I see him.

dat - Posted - 05/14/2012:  07:28:20

tell him we said Hi

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/14/2012:  07:44:40

Will do.

OM45GE - Posted - 05/14/2012:  07:51:59

Are you going to jam?

dat - Posted - 05/14/2012:  08:07:13

maby Chris has a single friend that he'll introduce you to

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/14/2012:  09:47:58

It's a concert. He's recently started playing with a band that's based here in the DC area (I guess Virginia, really). So I'll go and listen. And clap a lot. But I'm hoping he'll have time to say hi before or after.

OM45GE - Posted - 05/14/2012:  09:56:30

Maybe he'll call you up on stage for a song or two.

dat - Posted - 05/14/2012:  10:01:39

he might even let you pick a song or two

I don't think I would ever be that chick.

Do you think their mothers are proud?

dat - Posted - 05/14/2012:  13:54:18

and you don't see the fathers pointing out     "  THAT's my girl!! "

OM45GE - Posted - 05/14/2012:  14:08:01

I always wondered about the women at Mardi Gras who let it all hang out for plastic beads. Seems like they're selling themselves pretty cheaply.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/14/2012:  19:58:00

So the concert was excellent. I cornered Chris at intermission and we talked for a couple minutes. I pretty much suck at small talk so he probably thinks I'm some sort of moron.

But he was impressive. He can play guitar!

OM45GE - Posted - 05/15/2012:  02:50:33

Had you met him before? If not, did he look like you thought he would?

dat - Posted - 05/15/2012:  05:35:14

DID HE HAVE A SINGLE FRIEND THERE FOR YOU TO MEET

OM45GE - Posted - 05/15/2012:  05:59:32

Was that the plan or the hope?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/15/2012:  06:37:17

You know, I'm going to make up an imaginary boyfriend just so I can tell you guys all about him and you will have other things to talk about than my non-existent love life....

dat - Posted - 05/15/2012:  06:40:13

call him Frenando the pool boy

Would you rather we just stop talking about it?

dat - Posted - 05/15/2012:  07:19:43

I'll stop.

we had a garage sale last weekend, I don't care for those much, my bride loves them. she thinks we'll get rid of all our junk, we load it all out in the yard, tables set up, then folks come by and get a few things then we get to put all the stuff that didn't sale either in the trash or goodwill, some she wants back in the house,   I figure ifin she didn't want it in the house to start with, why does she want back in the house after it didn't sale

DeanT - Posted - 05/15/2012:  07:59:45

Last time we had a garage sale, all the neighbors brought their junk over too. The whole freaking neighborhood was in my driveway selling stuff.

and after the garage sale, they leave their junk at your house and you have to do something with it

DeanT - Posted - 05/15/2012:  08:14:48

we threw all the leftover junk in the apartment dumpster down the street....

My wife likes to do yard sales. To me it seems like a whole lot of work for a few dollars. She says she gets entertainment value out of it and it teaches our son thrift.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/15/2012:  08:23:21

About the only thing I would have to sell at a yard sale is books and wool and I doubt I'd make that much money or sell much of anything.

dat - Posted - 05/15/2012:  09:00:59

the only reason for a garage sale is just wanting to do it, I believe people go to a garage sale to get something cheap, and the sellers are just wanting to get rid of stuff,    nobody expects to make any money.   I don't put anything in that I figure is worth anything 'cause I figure nobody at a garage sale would want to pay for it.

kinda like taking woodworking stuff to a flea market. jest ain't worth it unless you enjoy it

We did pretty well when we were trying to clear out my grandparents' house after my grandmother died and my grandfather decided to move into one of those assisted living places.

There was this telescope that the whole family was debating about the price. The lens was cracked, so the pessimists thought it wouldn't sell at all, even for $50, but the optimists thought it was an awesome antique and wanted to price it at $300. We priced it at $100 and it sold within five minutes. And then the pessimists said we should have charged more.

dat - Posted - 05/15/2012:  09:55:21

Pricing is always hard to do, when I put a price on some of my brides stuff she gets upset cause I put it cheap, same the other way around.   we usually figure somewhere in the middle for both

OM45GE - Posted - 05/15/2012:  12:12:49

I like donating thing myself. I get to write them off on my taxes and someone deserving gets them.

DeanT - Posted - 05/15/2012:  13:02:15

Garage sales used to be on Saturdays. Now a days they start on Thursday... whats up with that?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/15/2012:  13:04:18

They didn't want the sales to interfere with Little League.

We have to get permits to have a yard sale.

dat - Posted - 05/15/2012:  14:48:11

that would be a headache, so far we don't need permits for much of anything

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/15/2012:  14:48:36

Where my mom's from they call them Tag Sales.

dat - Posted - 05/15/2012:  14:56:49

never thought of it like that, but it makes sense with all the tags on stuff

DeanT - Posted - 05/15/2012:  15:33:37

We have to get permits too... that’s why all the neighbors brought their junk to our house

OM45GE - Posted - 05/15/2012:  16:13:30

The last place I lived didn't require permits and there were some folks who had perpetual yard sales. Mostly they looked like an episode of Hoarders.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/15/2012:  18:47:49

I'm sure we probably need permits here, too. The HOA is pretty strict.

Right now they're on my case about my "broken" gate. I showed my sister the gate and she said, "Seriously. That's broken?"

But I've got to fix the damn thing. They never got on my case about the window problem I had:

flickr.com/photos/gregoryroad/5957298409/

And they haven't made an issue out of the fact that there are plants growing out of my chimney.  But they're all het up about the stupid gate.  (The damage isn't noticeable unless you grab the gate and shake it.  So someone had to come to my house and grab hold of the gate and shake it.)

DeanT - Posted - 05/15/2012:  19:26:09

I don’t know if I would like tree roots growing into my living room.

OM45GE - Posted - 05/16/2012:  04:28:04

I used to own a house in a historic district. You couldn't change a thing without the district commission's permission. He had the house painted and needed to get the paint color approved. Never again!
