We've got quite a few Coyotes around here. They're pretty bold. Some of them are taller than my Springer Spaniel, but usually scrawnier.

I like to walk in the very early morning. One time I heard a bunch of coyotes making and incredible ruckus. They were yipping and howling to beat the band. I wondered if they had made a kill or something. It was a lot more noise than they usually make.

LOL, definitely better than the grayed out boxes.

I wonder if I could get Toby to do that.

YOU MIGHT HAVE TO BE QUICK WITH THE CAMERA

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/25/2012:  06:50:11

I saw one of those greyhounds with hair (Borzoi) at Petsmart this weekend. I think that's the first time I've ever seen one in person and not just pictures and stuff.

DeanT - Posted - 06/25/2012:  06:59:40

Borzois and Salukies are beautiful... but I LOVE our greyhound’s short non-sheding hair

dat - Posted - 06/25/2012:  08:13:09

non sheding would be nice

OM45GE - Posted - 06/25/2012:  09:36:20

That's one of the things I like about Springers. They don't have much of an undercoat so they don't shed much to begin with. I keep Toby clipped short so it's even less.

dat - Posted - 06/25/2012:  10:02:26

my labs would shed a wheelbarrow full at once when it started to warm up, then pretty much all summer shed a little steady through 'till fall

DeanT - Posted - 06/25/2012:  10:38:46

We use a flea comb regularly to get dead hear etc out, and stimulate their skin. They shed less than a person. Their coats are really cool... you can drip water on them and it rolls right off. I remember some of the mutts we had on the farm growing up... you would pet them and get a handful of hair every time.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/25/2012:  15:28:06

I washed the dogs blankets last night. Twice through the washer and then into the dryer. This morning I went down there and open the dryer door. The lint thing was FULL and had overflowed so there was a web of dog hair all the way up the front of the door of the dryer.

So, um, yeah, I think they're shedding a bit....

time for some spinning

OM45GE - Posted - 06/26/2012:  04:07:32

I used to train Golden Retrievers and always though you could knit a large comforter out of what they shed. Then I would remember how they smelt wet and say "nahhhhh!'

DeanT - Posted - 06/26/2012:  07:04:27

At least golden retrievers are gold. Can’t say the same for a greyhound. And if you do see a grey one... they call it blue...

dat - Posted - 06/26/2012:  09:38:06

I had a lab named blue, she was black

As a joke I once spun some Pomeranian hair from a friend's dog.  That spun like a dream.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/26/2012:  14:52:05

My older dog is named Colby (Colby Jack for short) so when I got my second dog I was thinking about a cheese name for her, too. Someone suggested Blue and I said, "But she's orange!"

My first dog was Jackie (Jack Sprat for short) so I also was considering names that would go with Jack.

As it turned out, I was sitting outside with her, watching her play with Colby, and I heard this voice in my head that said, "Her name is Fiona." And I decided I probably shouldn't argue with the voice in my head. So she became Fiona.

dat - Posted - 06/26/2012:  15:18:05

voices in your head can be plenty hard not to listen to

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/26/2012:  16:20:11

I knew a guy who was schizophrenic and he heard voices, but he was aware that they weren't real. He said it was really hard to deal with them, though, sometimes because they just wouldn't shut up. You could tell when it was bad because he would look very stressed and worn out from trying to ignore them.

I wondered afterwards what was worse: hearing voices and believing them or hearing voices and knowing they weren't real.

DeanT - Posted - 06/26/2012:  16:30:03

The only thing I hear inside my head is my ears ringing. I think that drowns out the little voices, because I aint never heard them

OM45GE - Posted - 06/27/2012:  04:08:45

I have to admit, it's been pretty peaceful since my imaginary friends stopped talking to me. cool

Yessir, the ringing never stops anymore,   and I have to try to listen real close when folks are talking

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/27/2012:  06:56:38

I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not, but the "ringing" is only in my deaf ear. It's not usually loud enough to drown out conversation.

I do find it helps, though, to have some white noise in the background. Otherwise when it's really quiet the noise can drive me nuts.

And I don't actually have a ringing sound. It's more like static, like a radio isn't tuned in. SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH......

DeanT - Posted - 06/27/2012:  07:17:18

I can’t sleep without a fan going... not for the air... for the noise.

dat - Posted - 06/27/2012:  07:49:42

DeanT - Posted - 06/27/2012:  11:09:09

DeanT - Posted - 06/27/2012:  16:28:00

Too hot to mow here... nothing is growing anyways

OM45GE - Posted - 06/28/2012:  05:20:21

Why do folks put so much effort into getting grass to grow and then cut it? (myself included)

dat - Posted - 06/28/2012:  05:55:41

we fertilize our yard to keep the stickers out, other than that we don't water or anything except ant poison and mow

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/28/2012:  06:43:44

My yard is all bricked over. I'd kind of like to have some grass.

DeanT - Posted - 06/28/2012:  07:20:33

I would trade my grass and weeds for a bricked yard in a New York minute! BTW in this Kansas heat, we let the grass grow long before the heat hits... if you mow it too short, or too close to a heat snap.... the reward is a dirt patch.

dat - Posted - 06/28/2012:  07:48:57

we mow ours high in the summer too to keep it from burning up

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 06/28/2012:  08:27:43

The thing about the bricks is that they look so messy all the time. You have to keep after them, sweeping.

At least with grass there's something that hides the dirt and the dog poop and stuff.

dat - Posted - 06/28/2012:  08:32:18

if you don't sweep, the dust and dog hair will make a layer of something over the bricks, grass may grow on it,    spread out soem bermuda seed,    as much as I have to trim it back from our driveway, I know it'll grow on asphalt

OM45GE - Posted - 06/28/2012:  09:23:23
