I buy and wear dress clothes every ten or fifteen years for some function...my last ones are either out of style by a mile ,or don't fit anymore
dat - Posted - 09/12/2015: 07:09:53
I don't worry about style much, shopping for dress up is hard for me, I don't care for the new styles. a new pair of blue jeans and a new denim shirt or a button up shirt is dressed up
OM45GE - Posted - 09/12/2015: 17:00:27
I used to have to wear suits to work, but that was 15 years ago and they're all quietly going out of style I'm my closet.
OM45GE - Posted - 09/14/2015: 02:58:16
My son is playing trumpet with The Air Force Band Friday. I'm really looking forward to that.
OM45GE - Posted - 09/14/2015: 07:45:00
It's not a job yet, he's only 14, but they're coming to his high school to play and they invite the top instrumentalists from each section to play with them. Even though he's only a freshman, he was asked.
dat - Posted - 09/14/2015: 10:31:54
HA, send him to live with us for a month, all that doing good would change ![]()
OM45GE - Posted - 09/14/2015: 15:28:53
He could do a lot worse than seeing the world with the AF band. IMHO they're one of the best big bands in the world. Navy's isn't too shabby either.

I found a Saxophone in it's case with a bunch of extra reeds with a couple of spare mouthpieces on the side of the road (literally lying on the side of the road) several years ago. It's a beautiful instrument, but I haven't got the first idea of how to play this thing. I posted several notices in the local newspaper/ craigslist/ etc., etc., back then that I found this thing and would the owner come forward to identify it so I could return it to them? I never had any responses. None whatsoever. The local music store folks told me everything in the case (the horn and all the accessories) are worth about one grand or so, so I'm (after these few years later) still surprised that no one tried to claim it, or advertised that they had a "lost or stolen" tenor Sax.

That's for sure. One of our local cops played in the AF band and retired after 20 years. He plays semi-professionally now. He says it was a great life.
dat - Posted - 09/15/2015: 09:57:50
would have been nice, past that mark by quite a few and still no retirement in sight. my brother retired, was off one day and started working for the FAA at an amazingly ridiculous yearly salary
OM45GE - Posted - 09/15/2015: 12:39:12
That's pretty much what this cop did. He got his degree while in the AF and came out and got the police gig at a pretty good salary. He will be younger than I am now when he can retire from that with his AF pension and a police pension from the state.
chuckv97 - Posted - 09/15/2015: 15:56:42
Retirement!?...what's that? Should've listened to Pop who told me to start a savings account when I was 15. Sigh....
Scaggs7 - Posted - 09/15/2015: 18:57:52
in ten yrs what makes you think there will be any kind of pension available to anyone
cavet

Yellowstone could blow tomorrow, and that would be the end of that
DeanT - Posted - 09/16/2015: 05:33:11
I was watching a doomsday show, and Kansas was in the 20 minute zone. If she blows, we have 20 minutes before we are smothered by the ash
dat - Posted - 09/16/2015: 05:49:19
do you have a bottle of Jim Beam and a cigarette ready fr the last 20 min?
DeanT - Posted - 09/16/2015: 10:12:03
nope, but the corner store is only 5 houses down the street....
dat - Posted - 09/16/2015: 14:31:38
a buddy of mine quit smoking but he kept a pack in his desk just in case, after about two years he had a bad day and figured he would smoke, he said those two year old cigarettes were a bad idea, made a bad day even worse trying to smoke a stale cigarette
DeanT - Posted - 09/16/2015: 17:26:53
yep, total yuck! But now 2 year old Jim Beam might be a different story
chuckv97 - Posted - 09/16/2015: 18:36:31
Cigarettes and whisky....in my case- yuk! I had enough for two lifetimes, thank you. But there are times I miss the relaxed ,happy inebriation....but then I remember - I ain't 19 anymore either. 😪
dat - Posted - 09/17/2015: 05:47:59
at 19 I didn't know better, well, I guess I still don't but it hurts more now and I react to that by not drinking near like I did
OM45GE - Posted - 09/17/2015: 16:07:29
It took me a ridiculous amount of time, but I finally learned moderation. I can have just one Scotch on the rocks , enjoy it, go to bed happy and wake up feeling fine.
dmiller - Posted - 09/18/2015: 07:24:30
Kentucky bourbon for me. It's too hard to have "just one" though.
I always did want to take a guided tour of the Bourbon Trail.
dat - Posted - 09/18/2015: 07:56:33
I have a hard time with just one too, well unless it's just one bottle, I can stop at a bottle if it's big enough.
I'm not a whiskey connisiour (spelling not sure) I like Makers Mark, Jim Beam and a few others, not really a Jack Daniels fan, I had Blantons a few times and it was OK, but I think Makers Mark is the top of my "can afford" list. I bought a bottle about two or three years ago. used to be a half gallon every weekend.
I like it to much to buy often
OM45GE - Posted - 09/18/2015: 09:13:27
Don't get me near a plate of chocolate chip cookies! Moderation be damned
dat - Posted - 09/18/2015: 09:19:11
I can pass on the cookies, but a blackberry cobbler, ooooph, I'll hurt myself
OM45GE - Posted - 09/18/2015: 09:22:28
Yeah, that too. There's an apple pie on the counter that's calling me as well.
chuckv97 - Posted - 09/18/2015: 09:26:22
Lately it's been sweet and salty popcorn - the caramel and cheddar mix- thinking popcorn would have less calories than chips and chocolate. Yeah, right!
But I read somewhere that the pieces of sharp brown hull husks scrape your colon clean......hmm...
