I remember some popsickle sticks had fortunes on them

chuckv97 - Posted - 07/08/2014:  07:30:55

We seemed to entertain ourselves with very simple things back then. Good for the imagination and creative development.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/08/2014:  08:35:04

I remember them having dumb jokes on them. Things like, Why can't a strawberry be sad? Because then it would be a Blue Berry.

DeanT - Posted - 07/08/2014:  12:07:56

I remember the jokes! We used to staple cardboard fins to one side, cut a notch in the other side, and then shoot them with a rubber band.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/08/2014:  12:47:01

We used to do that too. I'm surprised we didn't put any eyes out. Maybe we were just lousy shots.

DeanT - Posted - 07/08/2014:  18:30:26

I was a 4-eyes, so I had protection...

Speaking of Goodwill - - - I donate a lot of old clothes (etc.) to them too as well as shopping there.  I was there a week ago looking for a long sleeved shirt, and saw two really cool shirts on the rack there.  I gravitated toward them right away, and then I realized that both of those shirts were ones I had donated to Goodwill a week and a half previous.  I almost bought them back, but then had to remind myself that I donated them to clean out the closet.

DeanT - Posted - 07/08/2014:  23:03:38

At least you know they would fit!

OM45GE - Posted - 07/09/2014:  03:12:47

At least your fashion taste is consistent.

DeanT - Posted - 07/09/2014:  06:10:48

Is anyone else tired of the pawn stars show on the history channel? How about some good history shows?

chuckv97 - Posted - 07/09/2014:  06:13:22

I guess they figure shows like pawn stars get more viewers. Good solid history docs don't. It's called dumbing down the masses

OM45GE - Posted - 07/09/2014:  06:33:44

The reality shows are also really inexpensive to produce. Combine that with the high ratings and you get lots of profit.

dat - Posted - 07/09/2014:  09:19:44

not many shows worth watching,   I may be an old fart, but I remember when the history channel did have shows about history

OM45GE - Posted - 07/09/2014:  10:27:08

I don't watch much TV at all. I watch the local morning news, primarily for the weather. I'll catch a baseball game now and then and I watch all the Formula One races. Other than that, I don't watch it.

dat - Posted - 07/09/2014:  10:42:39

we don't have cable or an antenna anymore, we still have a TV hooked to a vcr / dvd player, but that's it, we can put in McClintock, Blazing Saddles, Cool Hand Luke, or Outlaw Josie Wales anytime we want

DeanT - Posted - 07/09/2014:  12:34:38

Then more channels we get, the less there is to watch. I like Rocky reruns...

dat - Posted - 07/09/2014:  13:35:53

I got kinda burned out after Rocky 87  approve

OM45GE - Posted - 07/09/2014:  14:48:05

You should see my wife wield a clicker. If it were an Olympic sport, she would be a gold medal winner. I can't sit in the same room.

ErikH - Posted - 07/09/2014:  15:56:26

I usually take the batteries out of the remote during football season.......

OM45GE - Posted - 07/09/2014:  17:13:25

Physical restraints may be in order here.

DeanT - Posted - 07/09/2014:  18:29:00

we have separate TV's

OM45GE - Posted - 07/10/2014:  03:27:34

We have two in the house and there's only three of us. If there's something I really want to watch, like an F1 race, I just DVR it so I know I can watch.

DeanT - Posted - 07/10/2014:  06:47:37

I also watch stuff on my computer, especially sports, like marathons and bike races

OM45GE - Posted - 07/10/2014:  06:57:35

I do too.

DeanT - Posted - 07/10/2014:  18:33:55

But I'd rather be running them...

OM45GE - Posted - 07/11/2014:  03:27:37

Yup (except my running days are pretty much over)

dat - Posted - 07/11/2014:  05:43:42

mine too, doctors playin around with my backbone nerves put a stop to my running,   I can walk all day long though, so that ain't to bad

DeanT - Posted - 07/11/2014:  06:19:36

There's always bikes and weight machines... I'm seeing signs that my running days won't last forever either...

OM45GE - Posted - 07/11/2014:  07:23:07

I do mountain bike and I walk at least four miles a day. I track my walks on my iPhone. The app sent a notice at the end of June that I had walked 657 miles in the first six months of the year.

dat - Posted - 07/11/2014:  08:55:01

I have a bike, and we ride every once in a while, but mostly just go on walks, when I feel like it and have time I mow with a push mower instead of the riding mower, but time limits usually make me mow with the rider.  still nice to walk the trails though

OM45GE - Posted - 07/11/2014:  10:24:27

We have a program in Boston where you can rent bicycles. They have kiosks that lock the bikes in place and you unlock them with a RFD key fob. I use those to go from the train station to my office. Boston traffic and bikes are a little scary together but you just have to be careful.

DeanT - Posted - 07/11/2014:  12:39:26

I stay on bike paths these days. I'm loving my spin bike more and more. I'm to old to crash and get broken

Yeah,  I don't bounce near as well as I used to either

OM45GE - Posted - 07/11/2014:  14:34:37

Ain't that the truth.

DeanT - Posted - 07/11/2014:  23:45:06

That's why I got a treadmill... no more running in the ice and snow

OM45GE - Posted - 07/12/2014:  04:22:29

I use Stabilicers when it's slippery out. They're amazing.

DeanT - Posted - 07/12/2014:  19:56:03

I've heard of people running with strap-on versions. That's got to feel weird.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/13/2014:  16:44:21

These do strap on. You get used to them pretty quickly.

DeanT - Posted - 07/13/2014:  17:04:44

chains for your shoes...

OM45GE - Posted - 07/13/2014:  17:22:37

They have them for running and walking. They use replaceable hardened steel screws for traction. Work great.

Those are pretty cool! I bet they would tear up a tile floor in a hurry...

OM45GE - Posted - 07/13/2014:  18:37:13

They're actually slippery as hell on tile floors.

DeanT - Posted - 07/13/2014:  22:55:55

Kind of like our dogs on tile floors... they get excited and wipe out

ErikH - Posted - 07/14/2014:  02:28:48

I've used YaxTrax in the past--but those Stabilicers look like they probably would work better.  I'll have to check them out.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/14/2014:  03:23:16

I have YakTrax. They're great when you just need something easy on. The Stabilicers can stand up to rugged use. I've had the pair I use now for over five years. I've replaced the screws a bunch of times but the strap on itself looks like it will last for ages.

OM45GE - Posted - 07/14/2014:  03:23:54

I should have added that, when the screws wear down, they get just about useless and really do need to be replaced.

dat - Posted - 07/14/2014:  05:49:58

if its cold enough to be that much ice to need anything like that, I don't go out except to get more firewood

OM45GE - Posted - 07/14/2014:  06:03:24

I hear you man. I have to go out whatever the weather or I would be housebound 1/3 of the year.

DeanT - Posted - 07/14/2014:  06:03:41

and I go downstairs and run on my treadmill...

OM45GE - Posted - 07/14/2014:  06:22:59

I can do that too but I prefer getting outside every day.
