Western Kansas is really dry and windy,,I guess you get more rain in the eastern end of the state
DeanT - Posted - 07/18/2017: 16:01:53
This has been an exceptionally wet spring, and yes it's windy all the time. I like the wind in the fall when it blows all the leaves away

Right now it's in the 80s With about 90% humidity. Not very comfortable out.
DeanT - Posted - 07/20/2017: 17:05:48
cool front supposed to come through on Sunday and bring some refreshing low 90's...
dmiller - Posted - 07/21/2017: 21:04:03
A few days ago we only got up to 55°f, but more often than not its been in the upper 70's/ low 80's and feeling like summer.

As my dad used to say, "We will weather the weather whatever the weather, whether we like the weather or not."
OM45GE - Posted - 07/24/2017: 02:58:09
No, he was a lawyer, but he was a weather enthusiast. I got the bug from him. I have a weather station at home and like doing my own forecasts.

We don't either if the wind is off the ocean. If it's a snowstorm, it's what they call a Nor' Easter.

As long as they don't throw in something about purple mountains.

Katherine Bates supposedly thought up the words to that poem on top of Pike's Peak and wrote them down when she got back to her hotel room. It was set to music later.

It's a great song. Personally I would prefer it as our National Anthem to The Star Spangled Banner.
chuckv97 - Posted - 07/27/2017: 15:11:58
I like them both, except that the SSB was written while the British were destroying Washington during the War of 1812. Not the best memory.

SSB is a b**** to play and sing. GBA is much easier, and works perfect on banjo.
OM45GE - Posted - 07/28/2017: 02:55:25
I bet the audience likes hearing it. Do they sing along? Not many people know all the words.
chuckv97 - Posted - 07/28/2017: 06:09:03
We used to sing "The Maple Leaf Forever", also a kind of secondary anthem, in elementary school. I can't remember the words but always liked the music.

It's fun to watch Americans mumble along to Oh Canada at hockey games when Canadian teams are playing.
chuckv97 - Posted - 07/28/2017: 10:52:02
It can be sung in English, French, or Inuktitut (Eskimo)

It looks like my English hen scratching. Sometimes I can't read my own writing.

I worked part-time at a drug store in my teens and the pharmacist was constantly phoning doctors to ask what they'd written on the prescriptions
chuckv97 - Posted - 07/31/2017: 21:01:33
I used to deliver prescription drugs on my bicycle. Couldn't do that nowadays.
OM45GE - Posted - 08/01/2017: 04:53:28
Can you imagine a kid on a bike with a basket filled with drugs?
DeanT - Posted - 08/01/2017: 05:44:36
Our ice cream man used to come by on a 3 wheel bike with a big ice cream cooler
