I drink iced coffee at gigs, keeps me alert

OM45GE - Posted - 12/14/2017:  05:50:13

Have you ever fallen asleep playing?

DeanT - Posted - 12/14/2017:  06:16:43

practicing... yes!

chuckv97 - Posted - 12/14/2017:  06:22:06

Close, but I’ll startle to stay awake, worrying I’ll drop my guitar or banjo

OM45GE - Posted - 12/14/2017:  06:27:29

Same here. I often play for a while before going to bed. Many times I’ve been startled awake just as I’m tipping forward. I know it’s time to quit.

DeanT - Posted - 12/14/2017:  11:16:39

I hate being tired and yawning on stage. Nothing like telling the folks i'd rather be home and in bed...

chuckv97 - Posted - 12/14/2017:  12:29:02

Rodney Dillard, when the band played an instrumental, would play rythym looking bored, yawn, then he’d lift his left arm to check his watch and roll his eyes, while still strumming the open strings, finally they’d finish the tune and he’d shake out his right arm. lol

OM45GE - Posted - 12/14/2017:  13:46:58

How to engage the audience.

DeanT - Posted - 12/14/2017:  17:16:38

BTW, just this week, my band has talked about just going one more year. We just finished our 13th year, and went over 1700 gigs. Getting tired and old, but it's been a really good ride.

OM45GE - Posted - 12/15/2017:  03:37:55

That’s a lot of shows.

chuckv97 - Posted - 12/15/2017:  08:26:03

How’s your callouses?

DeanT - Posted - 12/15/2017:  10:31:13

I had callouses 40 years ago when I started playing guitar. They lasted a few weeks, and never had any since. I was a mechanic my whole career, so my hands have always been pretty rough

OM45GE - Posted - 12/15/2017:  15:05:06

The heaviest callouses I had was when I was playing bass. I played with bare fingers and, after the blisters and bleeding healed, got these really thick callouses.

chuckv97 - Posted - 12/15/2017:  15:21:19

I developed thick callouses when I played a lot years ago- I freaked out my kids by pushing a pin through one

DeanT - Posted - 12/15/2017:  18:52:16

I don't think my light banjo strings are thick enough to cause calluses, at least they never have!

OM45GE - Posted - 12/16/2017:  05:53:54

Mine come and go. They seem thicker in the winter when the humidity is low.

DeanT - Posted - 12/16/2017:  06:55:17

Now I do get wicket callusus on my pinky toes, from running

OM45GE - Posted - 12/16/2017:  10:55:51

I've got those from hiking and skiing.

DeanT - Posted - 12/16/2017:  20:06:56

I've still never snow skied in my life

chuckv97 - Posted - 12/16/2017:  20:33:33

When I was in my 20’s I went skiing a couple of times. It was fun but I never followed it up.

DeanT - Posted - 12/16/2017:  21:48:26

I water skied a lot in my 20's

OM45GE - Posted - 12/18/2017:  04:36:31

I water skied a lot until I had rotator cuff surgery.

chuckv97 - Posted - 12/18/2017:  06:35:03

I liked water skiing but was too poor to own a boat.

OM45GE - Posted - 12/18/2017:  08:55:30

We had a ski boat for about ten years. I bought it used for short money and sold it for what I paid for it.

DeanT - Posted - 12/18/2017:  09:54:03

My inlaws had the boat... when she left me, that was the end of the waterskiing...

OM45GE - Posted - 12/18/2017:  11:20:33

OPB (Other Peoples' Boats) are the best kind.

DeanT - Posted - 12/18/2017:  17:26:45

Pools and hot tubs are the same way :)

chuckv97 - Posted - 12/18/2017:  18:07:37

I’m going up to central Saskatchewan for Christmas. It’ll be around 0*F daytime, but my son-in-law’s parents have an outdoor hot tub. We’ll be in there like Finns on a winter holiday.

OM45GE - Posted - 12/18/2017:  18:49:54

Will you go rolling in the snow when you get out of the hot tub?

chuckv97 - Posted - 12/18/2017:  18:51:18

Don’t tempt me

DeanT - Posted - 12/18/2017:  18:56:49

picture or it didn't happen...

OM45GE - Posted - 12/18/2017:  18:58:37

We used to go to a sauna place in rural Maine. They were wood fired and we would drink beer while we sweated. When it got too hot we would roll in the snow and then head back in for more heat and beer.

DeanT - Posted - 12/19/2017:  17:46:54

Hot tubs are the best place in the world to drink...

chuckv97 - Posted - 12/19/2017:  18:13:29

It’ll be Red Zinger tea for me. I’ve drank enough in the past for 2 lifetimes.

DeanT - Posted - 12/20/2017:  01:01:30

Jim or Jack for me

OM45GE - Posted - 12/20/2017:  13:29:45

I'm walking on the wild side and drinking a Diet Pepsi. Let the party begin!

DeanT - Posted - 12/20/2017:  14:25:12

Ice tea for me, I quit drinking 27 years ago...

OM45GE - Posted - 12/21/2017:  02:39:56

I had a nice first day of skiing yesterday. Going back for a half day today.

chuckv97 - Posted - 12/21/2017:  07:57:06

How’s the snow quality there?

DeanT - Posted - 12/21/2017:  14:47:20

No snow in Kansas for over a year now... :(

dmiller - Posted - 12/21/2017:  20:10:20

3 inches of snow here yesterday.  It was that "light, fluffy" stuff.  I cleared my car and my front sidewalk with a leaf blower.   Love it when it's easily moved like that, and isn't wet and heavy snow that needs a shovel.  smiley

The snow on the mountain is machine groomed and hard. It’s quite fast. We’re supposed to get a few inches of snow today turning to an ice storm. Sounds like a mess.

DeanT - Posted - 12/22/2017:  10:03:15

While Kansas remains quiet and snowless...

OM45GE - Posted - 12/22/2017:  12:17:00

Send a refrigerated truck. I’ve got plenty for you.

DeanT - Posted - 12/22/2017:  14:10:50

how about just plow it all down here?

chuckv97 - Posted - 12/22/2017:  14:15:31

You want a white Christmas?

OM45GE - Posted - 12/22/2017:  15:52:33

Looks like we’re going to have that for sure.

chuckv97 - Posted - 12/22/2017:  16:08:24

About 4 inches on the ground here - turning frigid tomorrow for a week or more

Edited by - chuckv97 on 12/22/2017 16:09:28

OM45GE - Posted - 12/22/2017:  17:17:59

We’ve got about the same. It’s supposed to warm up enough that what’s falling will turn to freezing rain and then get cold again which should make an unholy mess. Then we’re supposed to get six or eight inches over Christmas. Then frigid for a week or so.

chuckv97 - Posted - 12/22/2017:  17:40:32

I’ll be vamoosing south lickety split come the 26th
