Most things are pretty simple until someone complicates it....
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 01/22/2012: 17:21:53
I've read something similar to your approach, Dean. Using the "I will not ______ today" concept. I will not smoke today. I will not drink today. I will not debt today. Makes it easier to think about than forever.
Unfortunately my personality is more along the lines of "well, hell, if I might do it tomorrow I might as well do it today and just get it out of the way."
I don't have a lot of willpower.

I've never been accused of being a quitter. I still drink a beer every once in a while, I still will drink a glass of whiskey every now and then, but no where like I used to. I used to drink one of the big jugs of Jim beam with the handle on it and two 30 packs of beer on over a weekend, then a couple of 30 packs during the week. I'm surprised my bride put up with me, several times she almost didn't. I missed out on a lot with the kids during those years. I haven't quit, but I've had a bottle of makers mark now for over a year and it isn't empty yet. when I buy beer it will last a great long time too. I guess I have quit snuff though
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 01/24/2012: 13:11:30
Hell my memory isn't all that great sometimes and I don't have any excuse. I'm not even blond!
dat - Posted - 01/24/2012: 13:24:16
Well, you are about 40 now, give or take a little. that comes with time, even though my memory wasn't very good 20 years ago
OM45GE - Posted - 01/25/2012: 04:21:13
They say the memory is the second thing you lose as you get older. I can't remember what the first is.
DeanT - Posted - 01/25/2012: 07:41:32
I can at least remember a few things at 50-something... I can't remember anything about my 20's....

I'm glad there wasn't digital photography back in my party days
dat - Posted - 01/26/2012: 05:48:47
I had a couple of pictures turn up, but they brought me a laugh along with everybody else

Me too. ...twenty seven eight-by-ten color glossy photographs with circles
and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each
one was to be used as evidence against us.

After I got out of ROck and blues and started playing as 1/2 of an accoustic duet, we did a lot of bar gigs. They liked us to do four 45 minute sets. One of the Irish pubs we did regulary had us start at 8:00 and do five. If the crowd hadn't turned over for the midnight hour we did Alice's Restaurant and some long bluesey songs.
DeanT - Posted - 01/27/2012: 10:37:27
Our standard bar gigs are 9pm-1am ... 4 sets... I've never done a 5 setter!

I don't play out much anymore since my partner moved two hours north. The really sad thing is that the live music scene is really slowing down outside of the city.
dat - Posted - 01/30/2012: 06:40:25
I never have played anything like that, there is a gathering spot in town that people get togeather on thursday nights and play, nothing fancy, just an old building in the park. I go there and pick sometimes. by the time I get off work and get there it is 6:30, then they shut it all down about 8 or 8:30. I believe they get started around 5 or so. there are enough other folks there that by banjer doesn't stand out much

Live music was almost killed around here by Kereokie and DJ's... but it seems to be making a come back the last couple years. We are getting lots of work

Same here. We used to do a lot of weddings. My partner and I had several other musicians who we could call on to suit the gig. Now it's all DJ's.
I could probably keep busy if I was willing to travel more, but I'm not really happy being a one man show and I don't like being away from my 11 year old that much. It was different when I was single.
DeanT - Posted - 01/30/2012: 12:10:09
I know I'm supposed to be retired... but playing music is too much fun. Hey, who is DeanT and what happened to 1four5? :^)
DeanT - Posted - 01/30/2012: 12:59:20
I had to beg :) Eric did it for me. I thought it was about time to go by my real name.
OM45GE - Posted - 01/30/2012: 16:25:08
I wanted to do the same thing but couldn't figure it out.. I'll probably just stick with what I've got.
DeanT - Posted - 01/30/2012: 17:04:28
Actually I didn't beg ... I just asked. And he did it no problem.
