you can point a kid in the right direction, and he might even take that right path... until a hot young thing comes along and all plans go out the window

they cause me to go into a trance, my jaw drops to the ground, my eyes go wide and I drool, and I speak in tongues, or babel, not sure which

What's the line about man having a groin and a brain but not enough blood to use them both at the same time?
DeanT - Posted - 06/24/2015: 10:29:59
what amazes me is how proportionate their love is, to the amount of money in your bank account (sorry Niffer, just going off personal experience, I had some doozies)
dat - Posted - 06/24/2015: 13:47:52
I haven't ever had to worry about that, never had a lot in the bank
chuckv97 - Posted - 06/24/2015: 21:41:29
I stayed poor so that I'd know they really liked me and not money.......( that formula wasn't a real winner either..lol )

I finally got smart and married a woman with more money than me

Damnit. My 11 year old greyhound shattered his right rear upper leg bone playing in the back yard. Long story short, we let him go. He was old and getting frail, and the vet had low hopes for any meaningful recovery. Just damnit.
DeanT - Posted - 06/25/2015: 10:12:11
Thanks, he was such a good dog, he didn't deserve to go this way.
DeanT - Posted - 06/25/2015: 17:08:49
Thanks, that's the worst part of having pets. I hope I get to see all my dogs someday in Heaven...

One of the folks at work had to put down her Malmute a few months ago. She got him from the pound/ they claimed he was just 4 or 5 years old/ but it turns out he was MUCH older. His rear legs were becoming more and more paralyzed to where he couldn't make it up one step from the front yard. Sorry to hear about your greyhound, Dean.

I know. Their given time seems way too short. They do enjoy it to the max though.
DeanT - Posted - 06/26/2015: 06:24:33
that makes our 11 year old cat our oldest animal. Our last cat made it to 19
dat - Posted - 06/26/2015: 09:04:00
cats live to long
I have had a few cats that I liked, but not normally a cat person
DeanT - Posted - 06/26/2015: 09:34:31
I love pretty much all dogs. Cat's on the other hand have to work their way into my heart. I don't like most of them.
dat - Posted - 06/26/2015: 14:46:05
It would be nice to have a cat that stayed down by the barn, didn't poop in the sand box, let the kids play with it, didn't kill birds but did kill mice and rats, didn't get all tangled up in your feet when you walk and didn't make a lot of noise at night
dat - Posted - 06/26/2015: 15:16:51
ok, at least not get tangled up in your feet, seems like cats want to walk right under you, and I'm clumsy

I used to moonlight with a guy who had a cleaning business. We were hired to do a top to bottom cleaning job for a couple who developed life threatening allergies to their two cats. The cats went to another home and we stripped the house of its furniture and cleaned it. There was cat hair behind light fixtures, switches and outlets, piles of it under the furniture and both under the carpets and between the carpets and the padding underneath. It was in and under drawers, just about everywhere. I never considered having a cat after that. It was so gross.
When we first went in the house it looked and smelled clean, they weren't messy people, but the cat hair was everywhere.

I keep Toby clipped short and our central air filters still get filled with stray hair.
dat - Posted - 06/27/2015: 08:00:18
yeah, you can't stop all the shedding, that was the only thing my bride didn't like about my labs
OM45GE - Posted - 06/27/2015: 13:19:20
Toby is pretty good because I cut his coat short. My Golden Retrievers left drifts of fur.
DeanT - Posted - 06/27/2015: 13:26:11
we just let the animal hair dust bunnys get big enough to pick up by hand...
DeanT - Posted - 06/27/2015: 17:03:45
we just open the front and back door and let the Kansas wind blow!
DeanT - Posted - 06/27/2015: 22:19:08
That's actually a true story, from when we had a doggy door in our back door. I would come home from work every evening, and our neighbor's German Shepherd would be hanging out on our couch!

A friend of mine moved to the country to start up an Alpaca farm, and she got two dogs at the same time. They were both kind of big and the house was pretty small, so she wanted to keep them in the attached garage until she got settled in herself. It was college graduation time here in town then and as usual - - - there were tons of couches and easy chairs sitting by the road free to whoever wanted them. As a "house-warming" gift I collected a bunch of cushions off of the castaway couches by the roadside for her dogs there in the garage. No sooner than I put then down on the floor, both dogs were on them. I guess they thought they were "teething toys" instead of beds, because those cushions got chewed up mighty quick

A woman in a town nearby was bitten by a raccoon that came in through the doggy door.
DeanT - Posted - 06/28/2015: 15:47:27
I'm lucky, none of our dogs likes to chew anything but rawhide... well, unless a raccoon came through a doggy door!

we have visiting dogs all the time, two dogs from different neighbors sleep on our porch and hang out all the time, they eat at their house and live at ours
