The first line was Mom all over.

I'll never forget the day she had West Nile Virus and throat cancer at the same time.

OM45GE - Posted - 09/30/2012:  12:12:24

OMG, sorry, but I was laughing out loud over that one. Ironically, mom died of colon cancer. She was symptomatic for at least a couple of years but refused to get a colonoscopy or even get a consultation until it was far too late.

DeanT - Posted - 09/30/2012:  15:41:03

The sad part is that she is more (physically) healthy than anyone else in the family.

OM45GE - Posted - 09/30/2012:  17:04:25

My mom was a 2-3 pack a day smoker from the time she was 13. She was in her mid 80's when she died and, other than the colon cancer, was healthy. Go figure.

DeanT - Posted - 09/30/2012:  19:32:48

My sister would never smoke... if she took one drag off a cigarette, she would be dying from lung cancer immediately...

OM45GE - Posted - 10/01/2012:  04:39:06

My mom burned down the apartment building she lived in. The fire started in the couch in her living room but she swore it was an electrical fire. Thankfully no-one was hurt but most of her oil paintings were destroyed.

Sorry, but I, too about spit my tea on the monitor over that one!!!

My parents both passed young, so I don't hold much hope for myself.  I figure when it's your time, it's your time.  Wow, Dean, your stories kind of make me glad that most of my family is dead, and the ones that are left I wouldn't p**s on if they were on fire.....

Back to your regular scheduled forum exchanges, now!!

Paula >^.^<

Om45--maybe it was an "e-cigarette" that started the fire??  Just my bad attempt at humor--still haven't had my second cup of tea yet, so all bets are off LOL

dat - Posted - 10/01/2012:  08:15:05

west nile isn't as bad as they say it is, I've had it for a about three of four weeks now, I have to go back and let them draw blood and check again thursday.  so far it has only been a few days right at first that I didn't feel normal.   after that it's just giving the doctor money every once in a while to see if it is still there

DeanT - Posted - 10/01/2012:  08:37:35

My Mom started the Malaga thing when it first came out in the news... my sister picked right up on it as a perfect way to get out of farm chores. And later, life in general.

dat - Posted - 10/01/2012:  09:47:46

my bride works with women that always claim to have something,   I always like to not have something, I feel much better

OM45GE - Posted - 10/01/2012:  11:19:37

You may be on to something with the e-cigarette Paula. They weren't out when Mom was alive or I'm sure she would have tried that as an excuse to. smiley

DeanT - Posted - 10/01/2012:  13:47:59

I like not having something, even when I do. Attitude is everything

dat - Posted - 10/01/2012:  14:12:31

Chewing gum takes the place of snuff.

camping was fun, even though my mother and sister came, me my bride, my mother and my sister.   I fell off the wagon and drank several beers more than I had expected.

paulac7 - Posted - 10/01/2012:  15:17:26

Never did chew snuff, other than a time or three as a dare--yeah, I'm that much of a redneck.......

OM45GE - Posted - 10/01/2012:  16:04:00

I tried chew a few times but never really liked it.

DeanT - Posted - 10/01/2012:  16:42:15

I chewed and smoked at the same time. I actually liked chew better. Dipped on the job for many years (smoking not allowed near jet fuel). I quit both the same day (Sep, 8, 2006). Looking forward to doomsday and my 5 gallon bucket....

paulac7 - Posted - 10/01/2012:  18:43:28

I quit the butts a little over 2 years ago. I have a 5 gallon bucket--but as of right now it's empty--just waiting for the apocalypse!!

DeanT - Posted - 10/01/2012:  18:59:53

I'm thinking a 5 gallon jug of whiskey and a back pack full of smokes would work for the apocalypse

Congrats on kicking the butts!!!!

Good show quitting Paula. Addiction specialists will tell you cigarettes are the hardest addiction to break.

dat - Posted - 10/02/2012:  05:50:24

I tried smoking and never liked it, they smell great, 'specially when first lit with a zippo, they just don't taste like they smell

paulac7 - Posted - 10/02/2012:  06:42:37

I agree, dat--they still smell good with the zippo(when first lit--after that--yukky!!)--I still have my 'fancy' zippo, though. Thanks for the congrats guys--I know they are the hardest thing to quit--took me over 5 months, several different methods, a borderline divorce (due to my nastiness), before I finally succeeded. Thank you Chantix for helping me give up the 2 pack a day habit!!! At least I didn't turn into one of those 'Born-again-ex-smokers' as I like to call them..........

dat - Posted - 10/02/2012:  07:43:26

I know that with copenhagen, I still always want it. I finally just quit letting myself give in.  the biggest thing for me was actually wanting to quit, which now that I think about it, a bite of snuff would be good, but I ain't gonna do it.

congrats on moving on from those ciggs

DeanT - Posted - 10/02/2012:  07:45:04

My wife still smokes... I still love the smell. I can be found often on the front porch, down wind. Our first bass player tried Chantix. He was also known to have a patch on each arm, nicotine gum in his mouth, and smoke at the same time. He never succeeded and died at 59. I quit drinking 21 years ago, and smoking/chewing 6 years ago. Quitting tobacco was WAY harder. Even at 6 years, I'm not so sure I'm in the clear. C'mon doomsday.... :)

paulac7 - Posted - 10/02/2012:  10:17:12

Doomsday would almost be worth it!!! Don't think I could stay quit if hubby smoked. He quit the 'backy, too, about a year ago--he chewed, and smoked those little menthol cigars....YUK!!!

dat - Posted - 10/02/2012:  10:32:47

my bride still smokes, but a pack will last her a week.  if I could have slowed down on the copenhagen I would have a bite of snuff right now, but I like it to much

DeanT - Posted - 10/02/2012:  15:03:29

I'm thinking the line at the liquor stores and smoke shops will be quite long when they announce doomsday...

OM45GE - Posted - 10/03/2012:  04:51:02

Do you think people will stand in line?

DeanT - Posted - 10/03/2012:  07:34:45

Good point... better get there early!

OM45GE - Posted - 10/03/2012:  09:10:00

I have a friend who lives in New Orleans and stayed through Katrina. He says they didn't wait in line then.

dat - Posted - 10/03/2012:  10:02:56

it was bad around here after Katrina too.  the folks that did evacuate came through here and shopped out the stores. the grocery stores couldn't keep up with the extra volume of people coming through. the gas stations had lines of cars in some places almost a mile long down the road trying to get gas.  most gas stations put a limit of ten gallons per person since there were so many cars

DeanT - Posted - 10/03/2012:  10:04:33

Maybe stocking up on the whiskey and smokes now is in order?

dat - Posted - 10/03/2012:  10:22:13

I'ld better not, if I have it I'll use it.   if I had a can of snuff at the house, I wouldn't save it for hard times, probably the same with whiskey

OM45GE - Posted - 10/03/2012:  10:22:58

Sound like a plan to me.

My friend didn't do any looting until one of his neighbors ran out of some life saving medicines. They went to a drug store and he said sodas and junk food were stripped bare but canned goods and water were plentiful. Painkillers and sedatives were gone in the drugstore but the heart meds he needed were untouched.

DeanT - Posted - 10/03/2012:  10:26:56

Some say that Dec 21 this year is the day

dat - Posted - 10/03/2012:  11:31:11

stock up now, everybody will be at the stores on the 20th

DeanT - Posted - 10/03/2012:  12:58:47

I've got gigs those days, so I'll have to get ready in advance

If we all drank it we would have green pees

OM45GE - Posted - 10/03/2012:  15:46:22

DeanT - Posted - 10/04/2012:  00:11:55

At least we get one more election before doomsday

OM45GE - Posted - 10/04/2012:  05:52:51

I think I can say without making a political statement, that I am sick to death of all the political ads from both parties. We're close to New Hampshire which is considered a "Swing State" even though it only has for delegates and the Boston stations are watched in the Granite State so we're inundated with ads. I don't watch much TV to begin with but I'm watching almost none now.

dat - Posted - 10/04/2012:  06:24:46

we've been listening to campaigns for two years now.    I don't care for either one, but I know which one is closer to my morals

DeanT - Posted - 10/04/2012:  07:29:26

I wish Stallone or Eastwood would run for president. I gave up on politics. We just need someone cool.

dat - Posted - 10/04/2012:  07:57:19

we need another Ronald Reagan, Randolph Scott, John Wayne or Charlton Heston

DeanT - Posted - 10/04/2012:  08:12:02

What about Bill Cosby or Tim Allen?
