Did you ever see the TV show about moonshiners? I don't understand why they don't get arrested.

DeanT - Posted - 04/06/2015:  06:08:23

That's because all the cops are too busy filming Cops.

OM45GE - Posted - 04/06/2015:  06:56:02

LOL

dat - Posted - 04/06/2015:  07:37:42

my bro in law built a still and makes his own, I never did like the taste of his home made,  not quite as smooth as gas going down and burns a little more on the aftershock, but he is proud of it

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/06/2015:  09:05:41

My former bro in law used to buy old whiskey barrels and put water in them and turn them every week. That stuff was wicked - he called it "swish". I heard later on that it leeches out a lot of the toxins in the wood, aka poison. A friend had an artificial hand (he passed out in a snowbank one winter's night) ,and after a swish episode, my nephew in law came in the house next morning telling everybody he found a "hand" out in the driveway. I guess Ebby lost it getting in the car with his brother. lol

DeanT - Posted - 04/06/2015:  10:09:24

I think I'd rather just go buy Jim beam!

OM45GE - Posted - 04/07/2015:  03:00:20

I'm with you on that one Dean.

Wanted

German pilot to fly Air Force One

DeanT - Posted - 04/07/2015:  18:06:11

AF1 is maintained about 2 miles from my house. I think there's two of them, so one is flying while the other is being worked on.

dat - Posted - 04/08/2015:  06:16:52

kinda like owning a volkswagon bug, drive one while you work on the other

DeanT - Posted - 04/08/2015:  06:22:53

I had one! It ran forever and all I did was change the oil!

dat - Posted - 04/08/2015:  06:31:26

they were really good little cars, but everybody I knew that had them had one for driving and one or two for parts, they were driven pretty hard though, more like the Baja bugs

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/08/2015:  08:14:03

I had a '61 Bug. Winters were an adventure with those old heaters/defrosters. You'd constantly be scraping off a 6inch square on the windshield to see through.

I'd love to get me one of the new ones, they look great. My neighbor has one and loves it.

dat - Posted - 04/08/2015:  10:31:22

I wonder if the new ones float

DeanT - Posted - 04/08/2015:  11:15:07

My old one wouldn't... you could see the ground through the rusted floor

I saw a special about AF 1 that was filmed during the George W Bush presidency. They said both planes fly on overseas trips, but only the one with the prez in it is AF 1. As I recall it was both to have a backup and a decoy.

dat - Posted - 04/08/2015:  12:28:32

Air Force 1 is actually what ever aircraft the pres is in at the time the way I understand it, even though there are the big fancy planes he usually uses

OM45GE - Posted - 04/08/2015:  12:35:01

I'd heard the same thing - except for the helicopters which are Marine 1.

dat - Posted - 04/08/2015:  12:47:29

you gotta take your hat off to the men that fly and keep those things up, no matter what the gargo  wink

OM45GE - Posted - 04/08/2015:  15:55:05

True professionals who take a lot of pride in what they do.

DeanT - Posted - 04/08/2015:  16:51:48

always a lot of security around when they fly in and out

OM45GE - Posted - 04/09/2015:  05:21:45

I got stuck at a small airport outside of Philadelphia when Bill Clinton flew out. My flight was delayed until he had cleared the airport. I had a great time watching AF 1 take off and then watched them load up the transport planes with all the cars and Hummers. It was amazing all the stuff they brought with them.

I asked a security guard in the terminal why they hadn't flown into the international airport in Philly. He said that if there's a long enough runway at a nearby smaller airport the will use that rather than disrupt a bigger, busier airport.

DeanT - Posted - 04/09/2015:  07:36:50

Here they land at the Air Force base. No brainer there! One day President Buch's motorcade drove right past our shop unannounced.

dat - Posted - 04/09/2015:  09:23:38

the more unannounced the better probably, fewer folks knowing is less chances

DeanT - Posted - 04/09/2015:  09:33:25

That was in the middle of desert storm too

dat - Posted - 04/09/2015:  10:51:15

traveling through different spots has to be a headache for the secret service

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/09/2015:  12:55:08

We had a feisty Prime Minister in the '90's - Jean Chretien- who would panic the Secret Service guys by going off the scheduled route when he did a walk around/ glad handing at a public gathering. One time a loud mouthed angry protestor got in his face- Chretien grabbed the guy's face, pushed him down and kept walking like nothing happened.
I also remember Bush Jr. getting a shoe thrown at him during a press conference, with him ducking out of the way. lol

DeanT - Posted - 04/09/2015:  15:54:48

Nowadays the SS are too busy drinking and crashing

OM45GE - Posted - 04/10/2015:  02:56:35

They have been misbehaving for sure.

DeanT - Posted - 04/10/2015:  06:23:49

They better get it together, and start watching for the drone invasion...

OM45GE - Posted - 04/10/2015:  17:43:45

We have a drone. Lots of fun.

DeanT - Posted - 04/10/2015:  22:25:13

I'm waiting for the big version you sit in and fly around town

OM45GE - Posted - 04/11/2015:  08:21:40

Wouldn't it be great?

dat - Posted - 04/11/2015:  10:41:21

as long as it has a parachute

DeanT - Posted - 04/11/2015:  15:51:12

or a big bouncy airbag

OM45GE - Posted - 04/13/2015:  03:35:46

They have parachutes for small planes. The one my friend was killed in didn't have one, but it might have saved them if it did

DeanT - Posted - 04/13/2015:  06:23:25

It sure would have! I'm surprised in this day and age, it hasn't become a regulation

OM45GE - Posted - 04/13/2015:  06:44:21

I know. They're only a few thousand dollars, not much if you can afford the plane in the first place. About two months before Bruce was killed, a similar plane crashed about 20 miles away. It had a parachute and both passengers walked away.

DeanT - Posted - 04/13/2015:  10:20:18

Yep! We've had a few parachute plane crashes here too, and the people all walk away

OM45GE - Posted - 04/13/2015:  12:36:59

The apparently can deploy at fairly low altitudes too.

dat - Posted - 04/13/2015:  14:44:26

THAT IS AMAZING

OM45GE - Posted - 04/13/2015:  14:52:15

It really is incredible for sure. I was reading one website that said their system could be deployed as low as 270 feet. They said Bruce's plane was around 400 to 500 feet so it might have saved them.

DeanT - Posted - 04/13/2015:  15:46:55

need one for airliners now

OM45GE - Posted - 04/14/2015:  03:36:42

That would be a big chute.

DeanT - Posted - 04/14/2015:  06:05:28

nothing is impossible these days!

OM45GE - Posted - 04/14/2015:  14:27:22

True. They would probably have to to a cost benefit analysis on it.

DeanT - Posted - 04/14/2015:  15:12:05

On the B1-b bomber, the whole cockpit jettisons with a chute in emergency

OM45GE - Posted - 04/14/2015:  15:21:08

Perhaps the military values its pilots more than the commercial airlines value the passengers.

OM45GE - Posted - 04/14/2015:  15:21:39

That sounds awfully cynical doesn't it?
