bet that worked well with the ladies... not

OM45GE - Posted - 03/03/2015:  12:15:38

He was a very strange ranger. He had this incredibly ugly stuffed Pekinese dog mounted on wheels. He had named it "Tippy". He used to put that on the bar and say "Stay Tippy" and then smile like he was proud of how well he had trained the dog. I don't think that scored any points with the women either.

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/03/2015:  12:21:42

Ugly dogs attract homely gals

dat - Posted - 03/03/2015:  14:16:00

I never had any luck picking up women at a bar, which ifin I had my bride would have left me,  so it's a good thing

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/03/2015:  15:32:09

I've unfortunately woken up beside barflies

DeanT - Posted - 03/03/2015:  16:35:54

yep... like a right of passage or something

OM45GE - Posted - 03/04/2015:  03:33:37

But they seem so wonderful at the bar.

DeanT - Posted - 03/04/2015:  06:14:43

It's the Jim Beam effect...

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/04/2015:  07:12:59

A great Paul Craft song in that vein called " Through The Bottom of the Glass". He wrote some good ones - "Keep Me From Blowing Away" , "Drop Kick Me Jesus Through The Goalposts of Life" , and "Raised By The Railroad Line".

I like my women a little on the trashy side...

I didn't know who wrote it, but I always liked Bobby Bare's  version

I can't remember much from 25 years ago

dmiller - Posted - 03/04/2015:  22:45:38

All this talk here (lately) reminds me of the old poem - -

"You can tell a man who boozes, by the company he chooses"

that's the problem, they were drinking so much they didn't know what they were missing out on

OM45GE - Posted - 03/05/2015:  08:18:39

You said it Daniel!

DeanT - Posted - 03/05/2015:  12:19:58

It was tough enough just getting ourselves home

dat - Posted - 03/05/2015:  13:16:41

I never spent much time at the bars, but I spent a lot of time at the hunting camps and fishing, or just at the river drinking, or in the woods drinking, or at some ones house drinking,  I stayed away from the bars 'cause the sheriff dept watches folks that leave the bars, I thought I was safer driving all loop legged liquored up from the other spots,  and I could tell my bride that I did not go to the bar,   I was lucky in many ways through the years, I never injured anybody and my bride stuck with me, I thought she was nagging at the time though even though she wasn't, she could have left me drunk in a ditch, probably should have many times.

P.S. the pigs always walked on by knowing better

My x wife drank more than I did! She divorced me when I quit drinking... I wasn't "fun anymore". It finally killed her in 2004.

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/05/2015:  21:55:50

Sorry to hear that Dean. Yep, the fun stops at the cemetery.

DeanT - Posted - 03/05/2015:  22:19:08

It was a waste of a good life... she just couldn't put the booze down. It gets a lot of good people.

OM45GE - Posted - 03/06/2015:  04:00:13

One of my exes included.

DeanT - Posted - 03/06/2015:  06:19:25

I guess reality is tougher than staying drunk all the timedead

dat - Posted - 03/06/2015:  11:32:46

reality is a lot less costly, and less expensive too

DeanT - Posted - 03/06/2015:  12:32:13

easier on the liver too!

dat - Posted - 03/06/2015:  12:52:38

I figure I'll donate my liver to the golfball factory when I pass,   it's probably still pickled solid

High on life baby!

DeanT - Posted - 03/07/2015:  06:37:12

Never know when your gonna go. A lady in our town followed her dog out onto an ice covered pond last week. The ice broke and she drowned. Here one minute, gone the next.

Makes a person think about what's important

OM45GE - Posted - 03/07/2015:  09:30:16

Like my best bud who died in the plane crash Labor Day. Gone in an instant.

DeanT - Posted - 03/07/2015:  14:36:10

yep. A trailer hitch broke on a local highway a couple months back. The trailer crossed the median and killed a young couple in a head on crash.

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/07/2015:  14:43:16

But we all think we're invincible - that it won't happen to us. Probably a psychological defence mechanism.

DeanT - Posted - 03/07/2015:  17:48:44

our bass player died in his sleep. No one saw it coming. He was 59.

DOIN GOOD

last time I went I had rocky Mountain Spotted fever, they fixed that and wanted me to go back for more spending frienzies, they said everything looked OK, just getting old enough to do some checks, or write them checks.

been doing good since without going back

chuckv97 - Posted - 03/09/2015:  13:54:22

I'm getting all my blood tests next week. It's been over a year and a half. Not on any prescription pills yet, but I take herbal supplements for cholesterol and triglycerides. Docs don't cost us any dough here, except for monthly deductions off my pay cheque ( ~ $56).

DeanT - Posted - 03/09/2015:  17:02:50

I flushed the fosimax and prednisone in 2010 and started running. That was 5 soon to be 6 marathons ago. No pills here anymore.

dat - Posted - 03/10/2015:  10:45:35

doing something is a lot better than doing nuthin, keep active, or get active and you can go without a lot of medicine
