I have to change the brake light bulbs in my station wagon constantly. They are in the rear door, which gets slammed all the time loading for gigs. What an idiotic place to put lights.

chuckv97 - Posted - 10/03/2015:  17:59:31

I seem to see a lot of cars without tail lights these days

DeanT - Posted - 10/03/2015:  22:56:13

or stupid designs you can't see very well. Taillight designs haven't improved at all in the last 50 years... Headlights are even worse, changing the bulbs in mine are a total PITA. I miss the big ol headlights

OM45GE - Posted - 10/04/2015:  04:51:40

If they make doing it yourself easy they'll lose service department income

DeanT - Posted - 10/04/2015:  07:00:36

I bet car mechanics b**** too :)

OM45GE - Posted - 10/04/2015:  07:06:54

Especially the way the car makers are beating them up on the flat rates they get paid on. It's a downside of the "free" maintenance they offer. It puts pressure on the poor guys (and gals) turning the wrenches.

DeanT - Posted - 10/04/2015:  10:21:35

I think I'll just start riding my bike everywhere...

dmiller - Posted - 10/04/2015:  12:39:53

Might work for you - - but we've got 4 or 5 months that bike riding is "miserable/ unthinkable' here in Minney-soda, unless you have masochistic/ suicidal tendencies!  Don't get me wrong - - I have a bike that I ride occasionally - - but it won't work (IMO) for our winter (sub-zero temp) months.

DeanT - Posted - 10/04/2015:  13:29:28

Maybe I'll get one of these babies!

dmiller - Posted - 10/04/2015:  13:31:32

Touche!!!!!!!  Not for me - - but you go ahead and have at it!  yes

DeanT - Posted - 10/04/2015:  15:06:39

I wish I could afford one!

dmiller - Posted - 10/04/2015:  16:38:10

You and me both.  Bikes are getting to be almost as expensive as cars (these days).   One of "my guys" at the group home I work at rides a 3-wheel bike, and it needed some work a couple of years ago.  So he and I dropped into the bike shop here in town to see about getting it fixed.  While waiting for the estimate - - we "shopped" around on their showroom floor.  The 3-wheeled bikes they had for sale were ALL in the $3,000 range.  Can't see spending that much on a bicycle, unless it serves you breakfast and coffee in bed in the morning!  big

DeanT - Posted - 10/04/2015:  17:03:30

I totally agree... My bike really is worth more than my car!

OM45GE - Posted - 10/05/2015:  03:28:22

I love riding my bike for fun. Not so sure I want it as my only transportation.

DeanT - Posted - 10/05/2015:  06:32:16

I wouldn't mind it, if our city had better bike paths and bike lanes. But it sure would be hard to get our PA to gigs with a bike!

dat - Posted - 10/05/2015:  06:48:57

30 miles to work one way, wouldn't be bad if the weather was good, don't really care to ride 60 miles a day in the rain or sleet

DeanT - Posted - 10/05/2015:  09:30:45

how come work always screws everything up?

dat - Posted - 10/05/2015:  09:40:31

it sure takes a lot of time away from personal stuff

DeanT - Posted - 10/05/2015:  11:10:16

and burns up a lot of gas.

dat - Posted - 10/05/2015:  15:22:47

I paid 1.89 a gallon today, still was 45 bucks to fill up,  but that is a lot better than 90 like it was not long ago

OM45GE - Posted - 10/05/2015:  16:21:41

Under two bucks a gallon is pretty good.

DeanT - Posted - 10/05/2015:  21:52:43

hope it stays low, I'm loving it

dmiller - Posted - 10/05/2015:  23:06:16

$2.32 per gallon here at Sam's Club (5¢ cheaper per gallon than elsewhere in town).  I'm headed home to Indiana in a few weeks for a visit and the gas is always higher along the interstate.  Not looking forward to that, although it's cheaper in Illinois than it is in Wisconsin.

OM45GE - Posted - 10/06/2015:  03:24:49

What I don't understand is why, if there's some sort of problem like with a refinery or unrest in an oil producing nation, the prices immediately shoot up at the pump even though the gas in the ground was refined long before the problem. But when the crisis passes, it takes months for the price to come back down.

dat - Posted - 10/06/2015:  06:08:01

if gas did come down, I believe it would really boost the economy, what stops us from traveling or even a weekend trip is the cost of fuel, ifIn gas went back down we would go more and spend a little,   the gas prices now on a trip you spend all your money on gas and  a hotel then can't do anything else

DeanT - Posted - 10/06/2015:  06:33:43

I'd probably put my extra money into running shoes and bike stuff...

chuckv97 - Posted - 10/06/2015:  07:51:56

Yep, weekend road trips are a tradition, and boost the economy.

DeanT - Posted - 10/06/2015:  16:51:03

I boosted the economy today and bought a new mt. bike

OM45GE - Posted - 10/07/2015:  03:34:19

The economy thanks you.

dat - Posted - 10/07/2015:  05:57:29

I would ask you about the bike, but I'll bet you're out riding instead of posting, congrats on boosting the economy, and the new bike

DeanT - Posted - 10/07/2015:  06:12:00

Specialized Hardrock. Pretty basic mt. bike, not real fancy, but perfect for this old man. The coolest bike I've ever had for sure. I'm resisting popping wheelies... this bike is tempting me to do stupid stuff like I was a kid...

dat - Posted - 10/07/2015:  06:35:23

WHICH ONE OF THESE IS YOU?

OM45GE - Posted - 10/07/2015:  08:15:27

If one of them was me you would hear the sound of approaching ambulances.

dat - Posted - 10/07/2015:  09:21:45

OK, nevermind,  I found you on the video   big

DeanT - Posted - 10/07/2015:  13:19:32

Holy crap, I broke 5 or 6 bones just watching those!

OM45GE - Posted - 10/07/2015:  18:00:04

That looked like a lot of fun. He made it look so easy.

DeanT - Posted - 10/07/2015:  18:12:21

And the bike has to be tuff!

OM45GE - Posted - 10/07/2015:  18:17:41

I tried one out at the local bike shop and it was amazing. I'm tempted.

dmiller - Posted - 10/07/2015:  20:24:26

Interesting how it's now called a "fat bike" instead of a "fat tire bike".  I call mine a mountain bike,

even though it gets ridden more on pavement than it does on trails (or mountains!).

edited to add - - that's a serious looking bike you bought there.  Nothing wimpy about that at all.  cool

Do it Bill, it's a blast!

It is kind of funny that we have "mountain" bikes in Kansas! I have 24 gears and only need about 3 of them! Mine will probably get more pavement time than trails... but i t's good to know I can take shortcuts whenever I want!

OM45GE - Posted - 10/08/2015:  03:23:30

I still ride my 25 year old Diamond Back Apex. It was state of the art when I was riding NORBA events back then.

dat - Posted - 10/08/2015:  05:58:02

I think I still have a ten speed in the barn,   we do have newer (still old) cheap k mart bikes that we ride every once in a while, but it would be easier and nicer to get a quality one

DeanT - Posted - 10/08/2015:  06:56:37

Our K-mart went out of business over 10 years ago. Wal-Mart and Kohls sent them packing.

dat - Posted - 10/08/2015:  08:11:20

wal mart around here is booming, I don't shop there, but it's always busy

chuckv97 - Posted - 10/08/2015:  08:38:07

There's a K-Mart and a Walmart right beside each other in Havre, Montana. Guess which parking lot is always almost empty.

dmiller - Posted - 10/08/2015:  08:47:33

We had two K-Marts in town.  One (in the west end of town with no other big box stores) is thriving.  The other K-Mart (in the north-east part of town where the mall/ Kohl's/ Walmart/ and Target all are) closed it's doors for good about 2 years ago.

dat - Posted - 10/08/2015:  11:19:14

I miss the local lumberyards and hardware stores that used to be around, Lowes and Home depot are kinda like walmart as far as lack of quality

chuckv97 - Posted - 10/08/2015:  11:26:50

Yep, we used to live near a general store where the guy used to sell bulk nails by weight- he still had an old fashioned scale.

DeanT - Posted - 10/08/2015:  11:34:01

Even our Target went out of business last year, but our city has 5 big Wal-Marts and little corner Wal-Mart gas stations popping up all over the place. We still have a place in town that sells hardware by the pound. I also like the old ACE hardware stores, and they are still around and still busy!

dat - Posted - 10/08/2015:  11:38:15

WESTERN AUTO,    lawn mowers, meat grinders, fan belts, firearms, blue jeans, and boots all in a store less than 30 ft by 40 ft
