I read a book about him when I was a kid and it made a huge impression on me.

DeanT - Posted - 11/03/2016:  05:20:05

They still show his TV show on the old tyme station

I remember reading that he said, "I've never been lost, but I will admit to being confused for several weeks."

Good one!

I always get lost and turned around if I'm out in the woods.   sad

DeanT - Posted - 11/03/2016:  10:24:54

I'm worthless in the woods... I'm lucky to find my way in the city...

OM45GE - Posted - 11/03/2016:  10:43:43

I'm lucky to have a great sense of direction whether in the woods or on the road.

I rely on bread crumbs...

It's best to take a compass along

OM45GE - Posted - 11/04/2016:  02:45:41

I wonder how many people know how to use a compass and a topographic map these days.

DeanT - Posted - 11/04/2016:  10:42:29

only if they are iphone aps...

dmiller - Posted - 11/04/2016:  12:16:39

I used to have a VERY good Silva compass - - and I used to know how to use it with a topo map.

Over the past 40 years, I've lost both the compass - - and the knowledge of how to use it with a map.

OM45GE - Posted - 11/04/2016:  12:31:24

I still have several compasses but confess that I rarely use them. The last time was to align the anemometer on a new weather station..

dmiller - Posted - 11/04/2016:  12:59:54

The only compass I have left, is a MORAL compass, and I use it daily.

DeanT - Posted - 11/04/2016:  13:43:27

I still have an old school, crank pencil sharpner on the wall in my garage

chuckv97 - Posted - 11/04/2016:  15:33:47

I don't have any old stuff,,wish I'd kept some old girlfriends.   😜

our deep freezer is from 1947, and still working perfect

dmiller - Posted - 11/04/2016:  15:48:12

My Windsor gas stove works perfectly.  Montgomery Wards sold it new back in 1916.

DeanT - Posted - 11/04/2016:  17:35:01

now that is awesome!

OM45GE - Posted - 11/05/2016:  05:15:45

That is wonderful.

Did Jesé White or WKRP's Mr. Carlson come with them?

DeanT - Posted - 11/05/2016:  15:26:50

They came with the house. We were going to by new ones... but they worked perfect so we decided to use them till they die. going on 15 years for us

OM45GE - Posted - 11/06/2016:  03:47:50

I tend to keep things a long time too. I bought a Honda lawnmower 25 years ago. It died this summer and I bought a new version of the same mower. The dealer said I shouldn't expect 25 years out of the new one. Sad.

DeanT - Posted - 11/06/2016:  05:49:30

I've gotten 15 years out of Lowe's cheapest "Lawn Machine" push mower. There is a manual push mower up in the attic from the home's previous onwer. One of these days I'm going to get that down and sharpen the blades and use it...

OM45GE - Posted - 11/06/2016:  08:50:09

I enjoy mowing the lawn.

chuckv97 - Posted - 11/06/2016:  12:22:34

I used to mow the lawn with my youngest on my back in a child's backpack, and a can of beer in my shirt pocket.

DeanT - Posted - 11/06/2016:  13:11:27

I just mowed today, hopefully for the last time this year

OM45GE - Posted - 11/06/2016:  16:03:01

I did mine yesterday and don't plan on doing it again until 2017.

DeanT - Posted - 11/06/2016:  16:24:09

hopefully not until April or May!

OM45GE - Posted - 11/07/2016:  02:36:28

We often still have snow on the ground in April.

DeanT - Posted - 11/07/2016:  05:40:34

In Kansas we can only dream. Our snow usually lasts until a little after noon

OM45GE - Posted - 11/07/2016:  07:41:14

I'm usually tired of the stuff at home by April. In the mountains it's a different story - I've skied in May.

DeanT - Posted - 11/07/2016:  10:14:29

I've never snow skied crying

OM45GE - Posted - 11/07/2016:  12:25:10

I went a couple of times as a kid but really learned as an adult about 25 years ago. It's one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done. The ski areas are obviously in beautiful areas and there's nothing like the feeling of soaring down the mountain. Most of the people you meet are nice and there's usually good eats for apres ski.

DeanT - Posted - 11/07/2016:  13:30:30

and hot chocolate!

chuckv97 - Posted - 11/07/2016:  18:48:22

I skiied a couple of times years ago. If I'd lived in Calgary all my life I'm sure I would've taken it up, what with all the great slopes nearby in the Rockies - Banff, Lake. Louise.
My girls came out here to work years ago because they were getting into snowboarding.

OM45GE - Posted - 11/08/2016:  03:02:44

Skiing sure makes winter more fun for me. I've never skied that region Chuck, but it looks wonderful.

DeanT - Posted - 11/08/2016:  05:31:41

I have water skied a lot, does that count?

OM45GE - Posted - 11/08/2016:  05:43:34

It counts as a lot of fun.

DeanT - Posted - 11/08/2016:  10:09:10

and lots of sunburn

OM45GE - Posted - 11/08/2016:  10:53:46

I just sold our old ski boat this summer. I wasn't using it much anymore and got tired of taking care of it.

dmiller - Posted - 11/08/2016:  12:38:52

BOAT = Break Out Another Thousand

We've got several ski hills here complete with the cable lifts up to the top of the mountain/ hill (within a 75 or so mile radius), but I've only done downhill skiing once.  Not really "my thing", but I did enjoy doing cross-country skiing.  Haven't done the x-c skiing for over 25 years now.  I should probably think about getting back into it.  It's really good aerobic exercise

DeanT - Posted - 11/08/2016:  16:31:45

I've never done cross country skiing for real, but use a cross country ski machine every day

OM45GE - Posted - 11/08/2016:  17:44:27

I cross country (Nordic) ski also, but prefer downhill.

chuckv97 - Posted - 11/08/2016:  19:43:06

Maybe when I retire I'll start out on the bunny hill
