I'm in one band that plays during the week, and averages 15-20 gigs a month, and another band that plays as many weekend gigs as we can get, sometime multiple gigs in one day. As with everything it goes in spells, sometime we get a breather and a weekend off, sometimes we are running around with our heads cut off. Most of it is local, nothing more than an hour away. If your interested in a local niche we fell into, message me for a more detailed explanation.

sounds like you stay pretty busy to be retired

DeanT - Posted - 08/30/2012:  15:16:34

Retirement is just a term used for the end of my military career :)

OM45GE - Posted - 08/31/2012:  07:21:41

Sounds like a great active retirement.

dat - Posted - 08/31/2012:  07:30:13

my finger tips still won't let me do much picking yet, I tried again the other day

flake - Posted - 08/31/2012:  08:58:34

dat...what happened with the fingers?

mike in harlan....woo-hoo.

dat - Posted - 08/31/2012:  09:57:01

I let my left hand get a little to friendly with the blade on a tablesaw,  middle and index fingertips don't have fingerprints anymore, the skin has grown back, but it is still tender

dat - Posted - 08/31/2012:  09:58:38

how long of a BHO pass did The Mrs give you?

DeanT - Posted - 08/31/2012:  10:52:11

dat... get out the bottle neck! :)

dat - Posted - 08/31/2012:  11:02:56

I may have to try that out

DeanT - Posted - 08/31/2012:  11:30:55

sockets work great....

OM45GE - Posted - 09/04/2012:  05:36:37

Bottle-neck banjo - sounds like fun.

DeanT - Posted - 09/04/2012:  07:37:14

It's a blast... I do it often, especially when I need a break from normal banjo stuff

dat - Posted - 09/04/2012:  10:31:19

I haven't triad it yet, but looks like it may be the way to go 'till those little nerves decide to start working right

DeanT - Posted - 09/04/2012:  11:42:13

I made my favorite slide from an old wind chime tube.

OM45GE - Posted - 09/05/2012:  05:58:45

I used to do quite a bit of slide guitar but haven't for years. I tried again a while ago and had completely lost the touch.

DeanT - Posted - 09/05/2012:  06:57:27

I think you have to loose your house and your wife and crash your car to get the touch back....

dat - Posted - 09/05/2012:  09:02:35

or just name your banjer Lucille

OM45GE - Posted - 09/06/2012:  03:14:01

My wife spilled a full glass of water on my work laptop last night and completely fried it. That didn't get my touch back.

dat - Posted - 09/06/2012:  07:07:17

that should have snapped you back into the blues

DeanT - Posted - 09/06/2012:  07:15:35

Buying a new laptop and watching your wallet shrink might work

dat - Posted - 09/06/2012:  09:45:34

jest got back from the doc. I'm the newest on the list for west nile............. danged ol skeeters

DeanT - Posted - 09/06/2012:  11:06:16

Take care man... hope it passes quickly!

dat - Posted - 09/06/2012:  12:50:35

It was passin' pretty quick last night,  it isn't bad, just more agrivating than anything,  body ache and a little temperature,   more just not feeling like you feel good more than actually feeling bad

OM45GE - Posted - 09/06/2012:  13:29:37

We've got West Nile and EEE around here.

I hope you feel better.

dat - Posted - 09/06/2012:  14:42:11

from what the doc said, I'll probably have another week of it, shouldn't get worse though, just the same ol same ol not feeling the best

OM45GE - Posted - 09/06/2012:  16:46:20

That sounds encouraging.

DeanT - Posted - 09/06/2012:  20:06:14

Maybe something Jim Beam could help out with?

OM45GE - Posted - 09/07/2012:  03:19:58

It might not cure you, but you wouldn't care.

dat - Posted - 09/07/2012:  06:20:53

that used to be my doctor, I figured by the time I sobered up, I was better.    it worked for years

OM45GE - Posted - 09/07/2012:  06:26:21

It can hurt more than it helps.

dat - Posted - 09/07/2012:  06:30:57

back then I didn't care, I was just out for the fun, I didn't realize I would have had more fun if I was sober with the wife and kids till the kids were half grown.  I'm proud my bride stuck with me through those years

DeanT - Posted - 09/07/2012:  07:30:46

I have three x's who didn't... however, two of them are still on the jack, and one died from it.

dat - Posted - 09/07/2012:  08:03:23

I've learned that I didn't have a drinking problem, I had a stopping problem.  once I got 4 or 5 down, I wanted the rest of what ever there was, beer or whisky.   I'll still drink every once in a while, but I stop at 2.  I think if I go past that I'll probably not quit again

OM45GE - Posted - 09/07/2012:  08:54:15

I limit myself to one or two as well. I just don't like how I feel the next day if I do more.

DeanT - Posted - 09/07/2012:  09:18:34

I haven't had a drink in 21 1/2 years... I can still taste it like it was yesterday!

OM45GE - Posted - 09/07/2012:  09:26:40

Funny how that works. Same thing with tobacco for me.

dat - Posted - 09/07/2012:  09:31:28

a big ol bite of copenhagen would taste good,   I don't think the urges ever leave, it's just that you learn to get past them

DeanT - Posted - 09/07/2012:  11:33:47

Me to... haven't smoked or chewed in 6 years. The cravings are there and strong as ever. Only they last about .3 second instead of 3 hours or 3 days.

I have an agreement with our bass player. If either of us are on our death bed and only given a few days to live... the other will sneak a case of whiskey and a carton of ciggys into the room... and go out feeling right.

dat - Posted - 09/07/2012:  12:31:59

sounds like some of my friends, are you sure we haven't met?

OM45GE - Posted - 09/07/2012:  12:56:41

Mine too!

DeanT - Posted - 09/07/2012:  13:29:59

Meet me at the hospital for a party!

OM45GE - Posted - 09/07/2012:  13:31:58

Hopefully it won't be for a good long while yet.

DeanT - Posted - 09/07/2012:  21:23:15

Hopefully! I've already had two contemporaries die of a heart attack, no warning. One of the reasons I started running again.

OM45GE - Posted - 09/08/2012:  11:13:55

I know. The lead singer from several of the rock bands I was in died a few years ago and a bass player I worked with died twenty years ago when he was 40. Both were still abusing themselves pretty badly, but it is incentive to stay in shape.

I can't run anymore because I ruined my knees but I walk 4 to 6 miles a day.

DeanT - Posted - 09/08/2012:  12:35:55

walking is just as good... some ways better. The doctor's show on TV said walking every day would add 8 ears to your life

OM45GE - Posted - 09/09/2012:  08:17:33

I've heard the same thing, but I do miss running.

DeanT - Posted - 09/10/2012:  00:13:08

My dogs LOVE running with me

dat - Posted - 09/10/2012:  08:04:04

I haven't run in a great long time, since my back surgery I can run with one leg but the other doesn't want to keep up.  I can walk all day long, even at a fast pace, but running isn't a pretty sight
