Boa constrictors like to give you a hug.

dat - Posted - 05/09/2015:  06:59:22

yep, a hug is showing how much he likes you   (to eat)

after strangling you

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/09/2015:  18:48:53

When I was in college I worked at the natural history museum that the college ran.  One of the students had a boa that she kept at the museum and we used him for tours.  He really was affectionate and liked interacting with people.  I remember once at the end of a tour I was upstairs saying goodbye as the kids filed out and he was on my shoulders.  Suddenly he practically leapt off me.  Kind of freaked me out because d never done anything like  before.  I turned to look and discovered his owner had just walked in the door and he was moving onto her shoulders.

He was a large part of why I got a snake.  Unfortunately I discovered he was atypical and most snakes really could care less about people.

DeanT - Posted - 05/09/2015:  19:12:58

Snakes are still not as bad as keeping big hairy spiders

That reminds me of trying to herd cats.  smiley

I had a friend in high school who had a tarantula for a while. He assured us that it had been de-fanged. What he found out the hard way is that the fangs grow back.

dat - Posted - 05/11/2015:  07:44:23

I usually squash spiders, my bride don't like them to much, so they get flat when she sees them and tells me where they are

DeanT - Posted - 05/11/2015:  10:20:27

Our cat hunts the spiders... good kitty!

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/11/2015:  10:50:25

I had a dream once that every single spider I ever killed came back to get me.  That actually cut down on my killing of them.  Now I try to encourage them to live elsewhere.

I also don't have too many big spiders to deal with.  I've seen some of those wolf spiders that get massive.  Those would probably die, even if it meant having them haunt my dreams.

dat - Posted - 05/11/2015:  10:54:58

Spiders are hard to poison,   most poisons don't soak into their legs, and they don't stick their feet in their mouths, their feet and legs act as an insulation between them and the ground/ poisons,  if you spray them, they die, but walking through the residual spray that will get most bugs, the spiders keep on going

dat - Posted - 05/11/2015:  10:57:10

I don't remember many dreams, seems like I lay down then the alarm starts ringing to wake up.  every once in a while I dream that I'm walking and step in a hole about two or three inches deep and jar my leg when I step down in it, usually wake up jumping up and wake my bride up at the same time

OM45GE - Posted - 05/11/2015:  16:00:48

I don't mind spiders but one time I was canoeing on a narrow stream with overhanging branches. At one point I looked down in the canoe a realized there was what looked like a thousand spiders in it. They must have been falling off the branches. That was pretty awful.

wait until after dark and shine a flashlight into the trees and see all the spider eyes

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 05/11/2015:  19:27:23

I had this recurring dream maybe ten years ago.  I dreamed I was in bed and I'd look up to see this massive spider descending from the ceiling.  I'm not someone who usually sleep walks, but those dreams were so vivid that I would wake up to find I was running down the hall from my bedroom.  I'd have to turn on all the lights in the house and flip over all the covers in my bed before I could go back to sleep.  It was a serious adrenaline rush.

Then one night I was reading n bed and saw something out of the corner of my eye.  There was a fairly small spider descending from the ceiling.  I will admit that spider did not survive the encounter.  But I never had the dream again after that.

DeanT - Posted - 05/11/2015:  22:18:53

I've had the opposite where I think I'm awake, and see weird stuff, and try to move, but I'm totally paralyzed. It's super freaky at first. Like half awake, but half asleep, in a mix of dream and reality.

OM45GE - Posted - 05/12/2015:  03:57:48

I know someone who says they are not in most of their dreams. They say it's like watching a movie about other people. I'd never heard of that before.

DeanT - Posted - 05/12/2015:  05:35:56

I like dreaming when you know it's a dream

chuckv97 - Posted - 05/12/2015:  08:44:40

I rarely remember dreams - don't even know if they're in colour or black&white.

dat - Posted - 05/12/2015:  10:03:29

I used to have the same dream, when it started I knew it was a dream.  weird thing is it was kinda like a soap opra, it started and just followed a story through with each time added on

I would like to know what dogs are dreaming about when they start yipping and growling in their sleep.

dat - Posted - 05/12/2015:  12:08:53

kinda like Bruno, the cartoonist had been watching dogs

Our dogs dream about the neighbor's stupid cats

OM45GE - Posted - 05/12/2015:  17:46:36

I wonder what the cats dream about.

DeanT - Posted - 05/12/2015:  22:14:25

Their alien ancestors

dat - Posted - 05/13/2015:  05:59:49

cats dream about taking over the world and having people as their servants, not sure if they dream about it, or how they already did it

OM45GE - Posted - 05/13/2015:  07:25:10

Yeah, I think that's reality, not a dream.

chuckv97 - Posted - 05/13/2015:  08:17:36

My younger daughter has always loved cats- had them growing up and still has Jerry, silver grey part Persian. He's a gas- their Boxer dog,Cash, always takes a long roundabout detour if he has to get past him. Then other times you'll see them sleeping together,,go figure. My older daughter also had cats, but didn't know why she had rashes on her arms since she was a kid- even had medical tests done - no answers. Well, years later when on her own, the rashes disappeared soon after she got rid of her cat. Light-bulb moment....lol

OM45GE - Posted - 05/13/2015:  10:21:58

They're great exercise devices for dogs.

dat - Posted - 05/13/2015:  11:45:51

TRUE,  but once the dogs learn how to get em, they spend a lot less energy and do it quick

OM45GE - Posted - 05/13/2015:  15:58:38

Toby still hasn't learned that.

DeanT - Posted - 05/13/2015:  16:10:05

None of my dogs has learned it yet either!

OM45GE - Posted - 05/14/2015:  04:13:55

Toby caught a dove once. He was so surprised he didn't know what to do with it and he dropped it and watched it fly away.

dat - Posted - 05/14/2015:  05:54:27

it's a little harder for a dog to fetch dove if they are just learning, more loose soft fluffy down feathers get all in their mouth than with other birds, it can be a distraction to them at first

DeanT - Posted - 05/14/2015:  05:57:07

A rabbit had a nest of babies in our back yard a couple years ago. I don't know how it was undetected for so long. But when the dogs found it, it was all over in seconds

OM45GE - Posted - 05/14/2015:  07:48:51

This dove was hunkered down on the ground and Toby jumped at it. The dove took of and Toby grabbed at it and caught it. A couple of seconds later he spit it out and it flew off. I was laughing like a fool.

DeanT - Posted - 05/14/2015:  10:16:25

Amazing how high squirrels can jump when caught by surprise, at least 12' into the pine trees...

OM45GE - Posted - 05/14/2015:  12:57:14

I like when they get into a mental short circuit in the middle of the road and can't figure out which way to run. Come to think of it, I've felt the same way!

DeanT - Posted - 05/14/2015:  13:45:10

until they get squished...

OM45GE - Posted - 05/14/2015:  13:59:14

I was driving home from work years ago and saw a skunk lying dead in the road a couple of miles from the house. They had been painting the lines in the road and had painted right over the skunk. I went home to grab my camera (this was before cell phones). By the time I got back it looked like several trucks had run over it. It wasn't photo worthy.

OM45GE - Posted - 05/15/2015:  06:10:47

Pretty much what the skunk looked like except he was in the middle of the road with two yellow stripes.

DeanT - Posted - 05/15/2015:  06:12:35

I think John Lennon wrote a song about that...

OM45GE - Posted - 05/15/2015:  07:12:24

What song was that?

chuckv97 - Posted - 05/15/2015:  10:23:30

Or was it Loudon Wainright III?

dat - Posted - 05/15/2015:  10:31:53

OM45GE - Posted - 05/15/2015:  10:46:38

Hmmm, I can see how you might confuse the two of them. cool

dat - Posted - 05/15/2015:  13:04:03

I might have to listen to a little more L W 3,   I had never heard of him,  if he and Tom T Hall got together, no tellin what story songs would come about,    he might mix better with Ray Stephens though
