I did some training the other day and as the women who were there for the training left, one of them called me Jenny. I said, "Jennifer. I can get hostile when people call me Jenny."

They were kind of asking why and I finally said, "I'm a horse person. A 'jenny' is a female a**. I admit to being a b****. But I try very hard not to be an a**."

Jenny's were bi plane trainers used by the military. My dad learned to fly in one in the Army Air Corps.

Back when I was in high school, my boss at my very first job was a really annoying [insert your favorite dirty word here].



He would sometimes see me and say, "Jenny! How are you today, Jenny? Isn't it a wonderful day today, Jenny? Jenny! Do you know what a jenny is?"



I'm pretty sure that he meant a bi-plane. But he was enough of a [insert your favorite dirty word here] that I couldn't be certain.



One of the things he also used to do was call up to our department and say to my immediate supervisor, "I need a Polish boy (or a Polish girl) to help me with a project." Basically he meant "I need cheap stupid labor."



He was a real [insert your favorite dirty word here]!

I know that a good bit of my animosity toward the name Jenny is his fault.

My best friend and music partner is a psychologist. He says the best way to understand people at work is to think back to the grade school playground. There are nice kids, mean kids, bullies, good friends...they're all playing in the work playground now. Older but not necessarily wiser.

Dad's home from the hospital. My sister just posed this in a forum we both belong to:



Dad's home. So far so good.

And I got my fill of shoveling snow. I'd been joking that I hadn't gotten my snow shoveling for the season, and I guess mother nature didn't get that it was a joke. Around four inches overnight and it was still snowing for most of the morning.

Dad realized sometime last night/this morning that he really should have rented a hospital bed for when he came home, so he called us at 8am to say he was supposed to be discharged today, and please call the medical supply place to get a bed.

I shoveled out a path from the end of the driveway to the porch, so the delivery guy wouldn't have to tramp through too much snow. Then after I'd gotten some breakfast (and dad had called to say we should bring him his sweatpants which were in his fancy closet thing-- we eventually managed to translate that to realize we should look in the armoire), I went out to clear more of the driveway so I'd be able to pull farther forward to let Dad out right by the porch.

The guy who was clearing my parent's neighbor's driveway came across to tell me to stop. The neighbor had asked him to do our shoveling too since she knew Dad ws supposed to be coming out of the hospital.

My parents neighbors are very nice and thoughtful.

Very quiet here at work today. I'm in the same suite with a bunch of Financial Aid folks and apparently they're all in an all day workshop. This afternoon my coworkers and I are doing a training for some staff so we'll be out, too. There will be like two people in an office area that normally has like 20.

we fed our neighbors dog that has adopted us yesterday, they have been out of town for 3 days, and he buried it, I know I'm not the best cook, but I never figured a dog would bury a pork chop
