t-shirt and jeans for me, with old running shoes. My only suit is my Air Force Blues. True story: Someone else in basic training tied my blue tie, and I wore it, and never retied it, my entire career. It still hangs on the hanger with the jacket and shirt, tied, from 30 years ago.
chuckv97 - Posted - 03/25/2016: 17:56:31
Windsor knot, anyone? I'm not sure I can still tie one- it's got to be 30 years.

I'll wear a tie to a funeral, but that's about it. Luckily there haven't been any of them for a few years now. I can still tie a necktie if I need to, but I never did learn how to tie a bowtie.
dat - Posted - 03/26/2016: 06:39:32
I think when we were kids my mother dressed us up a couple of times with a bowtie, but it was a clip on
OM45GE - Posted - 03/26/2016: 08:20:58
I don't think I'll ever forget how to tie a tie, even bow ties.
dat - Posted - 03/26/2016: 08:46:16
I don't wear one often, even when our daughter got married she didn't want any ties (neck ties anyway)
DeanT - Posted - 03/26/2016: 16:53:34
There was a bowtie on the back of my Chevy Truck, does that count?
dmiller - Posted - 03/26/2016: 17:27:58
My RB-250 had a bowtie flyswatter neck and peghead when I first got it.
chuckv97 - Posted - 03/26/2016: 17:44:23
You didn't like that neck and peg head?. They are dynamite banjos from what I hear, but have never played one yet. I remember seeing pics of Lamar Grier with one as a BG Boy.
dmiller - Posted - 03/26/2016: 17:50:43
I bought that RB-250 from Dennis Coehlo (Coehlo here on the hang out) back when we were both at IU (he a teacher and I a student) back in 1971 (or so). He bought it from the original owner Boby Helms (Bobby Helms of Jingle Bell Rock fame), and Bobby liked that peghead and inlay (I guess) because it looked more like a guitar. That's one of the reasons I didn't like it, but it was also too fat for my hands and I wanted a slimmer neck. So I traded that neck for a Hearts and Flowers.
chuckv97 - Posted - 03/26/2016: 18:11:16
Cool! I didn't want to mention it earlier, but I too didn't like the electric guitar style peg head - thought it fit'nt dit.
dmiller - Posted - 03/26/2016: 18:27:33
Bobby was die hard country guitar, and didn't care much for banjo at all. His Dad wanted to hear him play Cripple Creek on the banjo, so Bobby bought that 250 and learned one tune and one tune only on it. Cripple Creek. Whenever his Dad asked for Cripple Creek, Bobby would haul that out and pick it for him. Once his Dad passed away, he had no more use for it and sold it to Coehlo. Later on, Dennis needed money for an engine rebuild on his VW Microbus, and that's when he sold it to me. I didn't know any of this at the time, and didn't find out all this info until just a few years ago when Coehlo and I reconnected (via computer) here on the hangout and he told me this banjo's history.

It would have the thick hoop, not the thin ones that they came out with later? Intermountain Guitar and Banjo in SLC had a later one with the thin hoop, but never got there then to try it out. I think they only wanted two grand for it.

My father in law is a retired public defender who specialized in juvenile cases, (lots of interesting stories). He always wore a bow tie. Looked good in them too.
chuckv97 - Posted - 03/27/2016: 12:20:42
They used to be more popular, but I only had the clip on type when I was a kid.
DeanT - Posted - 03/27/2016: 15:03:18
other than my AF blues and one tie, I've never owned a suit or a tie. I wore a sweater to my Dad's funeral
OM45GE - Posted - 03/28/2016: 03:25:16
We took them out for Easter dinner yesterday. He had a pastel bow tie on and looked pretty dapper.

I guess as long as the necktie isn't made out of manila or sisal, it'll be ok to wear ![]()
DeanT - Posted - 03/28/2016: 13:18:02
I do wear a shoe lace necklace, with my car and house key on it, does that count?
dmiller - Posted - 03/28/2016: 13:33:59
Back about 15 or so years ago, my Dad took to wearing one of those bolo (shoestring) ties whenever a tie was "required". I never figured him to be the type for that, but after he and Mom retired they did a lot of traveling out west and he took a liking to them. They look a whole lot more comfortable than all the other ties.
OM45GE - Posted - 03/29/2016: 11:40:37
I can't even imagine how much money I would need to have before I would consider spending that much on a tie.
dat - Posted - 03/29/2016: 14:13:10
I think I would get caught up on bills first, then still wouldn't get one
DeanT - Posted - 03/29/2016: 15:43:55
I'd blow all my money on land, buildings for dog rescue, and never get the tie

Yep! I'd build the biggest no-kill dog shelter my money would allow
dat - Posted - 03/30/2016: 12:49:49
you might want to hire someone to make an awful lot of money that doesn't know anything or do much that can look busy and ride the clock, I think I could do that well if I had to
DeanT - Posted - 03/30/2016: 17:24:03
since I'll probably blow all the money building kennels, I'll probably have to beg for volunteers
chuckv97 - Posted - 03/31/2016: 22:32:31
There sure are a lot of dogs around - more than people used to have
dmiller - Posted - 04/01/2016: 07:08:40
The shelters around here are always packed too.
Gary Larsen has it right. Get your pet "tutored".

Not to get too dark here, but I think some sex offenders should be neutered
dat - Posted - 04/02/2016: 06:51:40
I don't think they should be allowed to live long enough for that. trying not to get too dark either
DeanT - Posted - 04/02/2016: 07:00:49
My neighbor is a registered sex offender and should be neutered

I just read an article about a judge who gave three convicted rapists the choice of 30 years in prison or surgical castration. The lawyers immediately appealed that the castration was Unconstitutional but their clients decided it was better than jail time and tried to withdraw the appeal but it was too late. They ended up getting jail.
