lots of things I would have feed to the dogs growing up ifin the dogs were at the supper table
OM45GE - Posted - 03/18/2014: 08:01:52
When Toby begs at the table I tell guests that he's not begging, he just upset because they're eating off his plate.
dat - Posted - 03/18/2014: 08:30:51
I used to hunt with a guy that didn't feed his dog "people" food, he said that it would make him beg, so I asked why he did beg so much more than the dogs that did eat people food. that dog would sit and drool around the camp fire while we were eating and the dogs that were used to eating people food would just set and wait their turn for the scraps
DeanT - Posted - 03/18/2014: 10:26:49
Our dogs get anything that's leftover. Some nights they get locked out of the bedroom
OM45GE - Posted - 03/18/2014: 10:36:12
For some reason, Toby gets really sick with salty things. He gets the runs and gets dehydrated so bad he has to be put on a saline drip.
DeanT - Posted - 03/18/2014: 14:01:57
Our dogs have gotten sick on chicken skins several times... so that's no longer one of their treats
OM45GE - Posted - 03/18/2014: 14:09:18
His vet says give him all the veggies and rice he wants, unseasoned chicken but stay away from anything with salt and other spices.
It's real different from my Golden Retriever. He could eat anything and come back for more.
DeanT - Posted - 03/18/2014: 15:54:46
We also learned the hard way... no ice cream, unless you want to spend the night in the back yard...
OM45GE - Posted - 03/18/2014: 16:26:35
Oh yeah, nothing like a big slug of fat and sugar to loosen things up.
OM45GE - Posted - 03/19/2014: 02:49:08
Toby's main diet is Fromm dry food plus whatever he can scrounge.
OM45GE - Posted - 03/19/2014: 06:56:16
We don't have those up here yet. I go to local place, Dawg City. They're a little more than the big places but I like supporting the local merchants if I can.
dat - Posted - 03/19/2014: 11:23:42
I like the local places too, you can get in and out a lot faster than the big stores, may cost a little more, but it keeps your neighbor in town keep a job
DeanT - Posted - 03/19/2014: 12:27:17
Here In the city, all the little places are wiped out by Pet Smart and Pet-co... who's only competition is Atwoods, Tractor supply, and of course Wallyworld
OM45GE - Posted - 03/19/2014: 14:01:40
It's pretty much the same here, which is why I like to give Dawg City my business.
OM45GE - Posted - 03/19/2014: 14:05:14
We have a great downtown with everything from Dawg CIty to clothing stores, great restaurants, even an old fashioned, independent book store with a fireplaced reading area. It's totally worth a few extra bucks to me to keep these folks in business.
DeanT - Posted - 03/19/2014: 19:12:01
I like the small candy stores and cookie stores here. I wish we had a Dawg City!
OM45GE - Posted - 03/20/2014: 03:10:23
I like it. Candy is good too. We don't have a good ice cream shop for some reason.

Do you have Dunkin Donuts shops in your areas? They're a Massachusetts based chain but are pretty widespread. Not my favorite, but my wife likes them.
At any rate, some of the Dunkin Donuts shops sell Baskin Robbins ice cream. The last stand alone B-R closed a few years ago.
dat - Posted - 03/20/2014: 07:26:38
we used to stop at A&W root beer stands too, they had root beer in a frozen glass mug, probably to much liability for that now
DeanT - Posted - 03/20/2014: 08:21:12
Interesting, our only Dunkin Donuts closed the same time the Baskin Robbins did. They were about 3 miles apart

Ya'll ever have a Burger Chef? I think they all changed to Hardee's
Edited by - dat on 03/20/2014 13:32:34
OM45GE - Posted - 03/20/2014: 13:43:25
We used to. Haven't seen one in ages though.
There was a Burger Chef in the town I grew up in back in the 60's. It was owned by a big Greek family. My ex wife worked there for a while. They came over in turn and ran the place until they save up $100,000, which was apparently enough to retire on. Then they would go home and a new family member would come and do the same thing. When there weren't any more family members, they sold it. It's a used car lot now.
DeanT - Posted - 03/20/2014: 19:00:42
All our Hardees shut down too. So did all our Godfather's Pizza places.
OM45GE - Posted - 03/21/2014: 03:23:17
I think a lot of those restaurant franchise deals are pretty much scams.
DeanT - Posted - 03/21/2014: 06:05:28
Starbucks are everywhere here, as well as Dennys and McDonalds on every corner. Taco Tico went under last year, and they are all tuning into Tac-Bells, or a local chain called Bionic Burger
OM45GE - Posted - 03/21/2014: 06:55:41
My wife works for a company that makes bionic ankles for amputees. They wouldn't make a very tasty burger.
DeanT - Posted - 03/21/2014: 08:03:48
They do make what they call the 6 million dollar burger. It's a pound of beef. It's what I get, love it.

You have to fast all day before going to eat one

We break them up sometimes. Just did 2 this morning. Less traffic at 5:00 AM.
DeanT - Posted - 03/22/2014: 07:06:27
I've been doing 50-60 miles a week getting ready for a marathon on April 12th. I'm actually running harder than my dogs can handle, so when I'm done running, I take them for a walk on the golf course
OM45GE - Posted - 03/22/2014: 10:29:34
That's about twice what I do. I get in between four and seven miles a day.
