The alerts that get my attention are "High Winds" and "Chain -Up in Effect"
dmiller - Posted - 02/03/2017: 09:53:49
There's a building on top of Mt. Washington (New Hampshire) that is chained down
due to high winds up on top of the mountain. Click the pic - - - > > >

There's an area at Wreckhouse , Newfoundland where winds have blown trains over. Not as strong as Mt. Washington, I don't think.
DeanT - Posted - 02/03/2017: 12:05:56
when the sirens go off, we turn the TV on, and see where the tornados are tracking. Unless they are close to our neighborhood, we don't panic.

I've been to the top of mountain Washington several times. Great views! The weather can be unpredictable. This day my son and I drove up. It was near 80 at the bottom and 40 at the top. I've hiked up and taken the cog railway too

Nope. They fly sailplanes on the ridge waves over the mountains. They've set altitude and endurance records.
DeanT - Posted - 02/04/2017: 15:45:30
don't know if I'd want to be in a sail plane in 230 mph winds!
OM45GE - Posted - 02/05/2017: 04:12:16
Nor I.
I was on another mountain doing a winter climb. We were at the top with 80 mph winds. It was difficult to stand.
DeanT - Posted - 02/05/2017: 06:47:08
he wind blows in Kansas almost every day. We are used to 20 mph. Anything less than 10 mph is calm
chuckv97 - Posted - 02/05/2017: 14:08:13
It's often windy in Alberta too,,we get warned to park the trucks some days if you're pulling an empty.

I think it's Tuesday, but with retirement, I'm never quite sure what day it is...
chuckv97 - Posted - 02/07/2017: 07:50:21
Same here when I'm off work...I wake up with a start thinking I overslept ,then realize there's no rush, no timetable, not sure what day it is......ahh, love it.

I keep hoping they will let me go early. I would get almost a year of severance pay with full benefits.
OM45GE - Posted - 02/08/2017: 02:34:49
Thanks. It's probably not going to happen. They don't want me to go, but I can still hope. ![]()

Dispatchers make PITA truck drivers sit , telling them they can't find a load for them, hoping they'll eventually quit
OM45GE - Posted - 02/09/2017: 04:06:24
I guess they would have to do it virtually.

I could never have worked at home. The jet engines would never fit through the door...
OM45GE - Posted - 02/09/2017: 06:15:05
That would be a problem for sure.
If I have a fast internet connection and good phone service, I could work anywhere.
DeanT - Posted - 02/09/2017: 11:03:37
I don;t think I could sit that long... I think i would need one of those treadmill desks if I had a computer job
chuckv97 - Posted - 02/09/2017: 11:15:05
I always felt better working outside or at least active away from the indoors. I had too many jobs stuck on assembly lines or small work stations.
DeanT - Posted - 02/09/2017: 14:57:51
I've only had two "professional" jobs in my life. I started as an aircraft mechanic at the Cessna factory, but got laid off. Went to the recruiters, and the rest is history.

I loved being "out and about" in the delivery truck for the printing companies I used to work for. I was at the shop long enough to load up the truck and once loaded, they expected me to disappear to do deliveries. I always did like the freedom to move about, and still earn a paycheck.
OM45GE - Posted - 02/10/2017: 03:43:26
The nice part of working from home is that I can (and do) get out and walk four or five times a day, play some music, see my son off to and home from, school. It's all good.
OM45GE - Posted - 02/10/2017: 05:12:03
Indeed. Even when I did have an office in a company building, my boss was in a different city forty miles away.
DeanT - Posted - 02/10/2017: 12:15:11
in the military, we had so many bosses, we never could keep them all happy
DeanT - Posted - 02/10/2017: 15:10:06
Oh it did!!! ... but I stuck it out long enough... to become a boss
chuckv97 - Posted - 02/10/2017: 19:26:42
I remember a boss I had in a welder-fitter shop.,,every day he'd say, "NEVER assume ANYTHING!" ...like a broken record
