I used to have a Mr. Bubble T-Shirt the the Makes Getting Clean... slogan on it and Mr Bubble himself. At the time I was riding with a pretty bad bunch of motorcycle dudes. I used to wear that into the biker bars. It was VERY interesting to see how people reacted. They probably clould have ripped me apart but didn't because of my buds.

DeanT - Posted - 08/19/2012:  19:56:21

Bikers aren't near as bad as they want us to think.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/20/2012:  04:29:38

Some aren't for sure. We call them "Rolex" bikers. My accountant rides a Harley - his wife too. When you see him on the bike you would think he just got back from a night of raping and pillaging, not preparing tax returns.

DeanT - Posted - 08/20/2012:  07:32:39

I have a hard time seeing someone with a 300 pound beer gut having the physical ability to rape and pillage for very long...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/20/2012:  09:38:50

LOL.So you're not thinking this guy is a threat to law and order?

DeanT - Posted - 08/20/2012:  12:00:46

Nope. Take away any weapons and his cell phone, and he's not going to last 15 seconds in an ass whipping situation.

dat - Posted - 08/20/2012:  13:19:06

or he'll have a heart attack just thinking about it

DeanT - Posted - 08/20/2012:  17:20:41

taking away the cell, so he can't call his peeps.

BTW, I have nothing against bikers... actually love em, and have great biker friends. Just don't understand why people think they are so tough. They are just like everyone else, many are teddybears. Hollywood portrays them differently...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/21/2012:  04:14:30

Since I've been riding over 45 years I guess I am a biker, but I outgrew the straight pipes bad boy crap a long time ago. When I first rode Harley's in the '60s there weren't all that many out there. Now everyone seems to have one and many of them are pretending to be something they're not. I still have my old Shovel Head but I ride a BMW most of the time now.

you mean you don't have a knuckle head sitting back for special occasion riding?

DeanT - Posted - 08/21/2012:  07:11:31

It's always interesting driving down the highway in a thunderstorm, and seeing the tuff guys huddling under an overpass

dat - Posted - 08/21/2012:  07:31:24

Some thunder/ rain storms I've pulled over under an overpass when I was driving my truck

I never had a knucklehead. My oldest was a 64 Panhead. It was a police bike that we chopped and was a thoroughly miserable bike.

dat - Posted - 08/21/2012:  09:32:27

I never have driven a motorcycle of any kind, I kinda like 4 tires on the ground, I've gone through a few honda and yamaha 4 wheelers, but never had the urge to ride a motorcycle.     I have ridden on the back when I was a kid, but that was about it.

DeanT - Posted - 08/21/2012:  10:15:30

We had a Rupp dirt bike when I was in high school... luckily, it was harder to get it running than it was worth. So I'm still alive.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 08/21/2012:  13:35:32

If I knew how to ride one I might be tempted to get on a motorcycle.

I suspect that it wouldn't be pretty for me to try, though, seeing as I'm pretty clueless about them.

dat - Posted - 08/21/2012:  13:36:27

we rode bicycles and hurt ourselves enough, everybody I knew that had those mini bikes couldn't keep them running, they spent more time in the shed than on the dirt

DeanT - Posted - 08/21/2012:  14:16:11

And we never wore knee pads or helmets...

dat - Posted - 08/21/2012:  14:34:06

all the kids you see now have a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and training wheels, we learned how to ride without training wheels (our bikes were hand me downs)  and we got a few scratches learning, but none bad enough to wear those ugly helmets

DeanT - Posted - 08/21/2012:  16:04:51

they make up for their lack of scars later on by tattoos and piercings...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/22/2012:  04:04:05

I'm leaving for the Bonneville Salt Flats this afternoon with a friend of mine to try and set the world speed record for Diesel powered motorcycles. Hopefully no scars.

dat - Posted - 08/22/2012:  06:43:28

GOOD LUCK,     with the speed record and no scars

DeanT - Posted - 08/22/2012:  07:05:24

Good Luck!
My wife's boss and his boys have already returned... with a broken car, no scars.

dat - Posted - 08/22/2012:  07:49:32

sounds like they did good, cars can be replaced

dat - Posted - 08/22/2012:  07:57:15

well, another funeral, 47 years old and just fell over, he went to the deer lease with his son yesterday afternoon and that was the last time.  he was at a place he enjoyed and it happened quick

OM45GE - Posted - 08/22/2012:  08:27:09

Sorry it was so young but like you said, doing something he enjoyed.

dat - Posted - 08/22/2012:  10:05:21

He never knew it was coming.    I believe that's the way to go, well rapture would be better, but that wasn't a bad way

DeanT - Posted - 08/22/2012:  10:44:02

Our first bass player died in his sleep at 59. Spent the entire day moving boxes into his retirement home. He was so happy to finally be able to concentrate on his music, and had also joined his Church's praise band. Went to bed, never woke up.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/27/2012:  07:46:59

The lead singer from several of the rock bands I was in died sitting in his recliner at 55 about six years ago. He had never left the 60's.

DeanT - Posted - 08/27/2012:  10:09:38

he probably still doesn;t know what happened

OM45GE - Posted - 08/27/2012:  10:11:24

I'm sure he doesn't.

DeanT - Posted - 08/27/2012:  10:40:49

I kind of identify... but it's the 70's I don't remember...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/27/2012:  10:44:22

I was pretty cleaned up by the 70's.

DeanT - Posted - 08/27/2012:  16:43:10

I was a slow learner... didn't clean up until early 1980ish...when I woke up on the bus... en route to Lackland Air Force Base....

dat - Posted - 08/28/2012:  06:21:01

we were in San Antonio last weekend, there were a lot of 12 to 14 year old looking kids wearing Air Force blues walking down the river walk.   proud life of an Airman Basic

DeanT - Posted - 08/28/2012:  07:03:13

amazing how 18 year old kids look so darn young. I got my first tattoo on town pass in San Antonio

dat - Posted - 08/28/2012:  07:56:50

dat - Posted - 08/28/2012:  10:33:01

DeanT - Posted - 08/28/2012:  10:51:50

Wow, out of the fire into the pot!

I was offered a retirement or a transfer to Tinker... I had just payed off my house... the decision was easy... been picking ever since...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/29/2012:  06:00:43

Retire? That's an unknown concept with an 11 year old.

dat - Posted - 08/29/2012:  06:16:24

it looks like an unknown concept to me too

DeanT - Posted - 08/29/2012:  07:04:55

It sure keeps one busy... I might need to get a job just to have some time to get things done.... (if you have to ask, you won't understand...)

dat - Posted - 08/29/2012:  08:24:18

I have so much stuff that needs repairing and done around the house that I need to either hire somebody or retire and do it myself.  I would rather do it myself, usually when I hire out something done they don't do near the quality that I would do if I was doing it, not that I'm a craftsman or anything, I just figure that when you do a job, try to do it right where it will last

OM45GE - Posted - 08/29/2012:  08:38:04

A lot of those folks need supervision and THAT'S a full-time job. They're called general contractors.  cool

dat - Posted - 08/29/2012:  09:11:59

I figure if you have to watch over somebody to make sure they do it right, you might as well have spent the same time and just done it yourself to start with.   I never did like baby sitting someone that should know what they were doing when I could be working on the next part of the project

My music went from hobby to job... and I spend more time and work harder at it than any job...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/29/2012:  09:21:35

Do you still enjoy it as much as when it was a hobby?

dat - Posted - 08/29/2012:  09:31:06

Some days even more. It's like pinch me, Is this really real?

But some days I have to play when I don't feel like it.  The difference between hobby and work is that having a choice is no longer available.
