I don't like going to Wal Mart. It's just not my style at all.
dat - Posted - 11/09/2012: 06:52:49
I like Abney and Sons, Maddux, and Toots, they are all local owned and you can get American made goods at a reasonable price. they're not open 24 hours or even past 6 PM, but then again I'm not going shopping after that anyway
OM45GE - Posted - 11/09/2012: 13:15:00
Balls said the Queen, if I had two I'd be King. If I had three, I'd be a Golden Retriever.

Walmart here is like going to Mexico... And it's scary after dark
DeanT - Posted - 11/09/2012: 14:18:57
We have different classes of Wal-marts in our city... the new one in yuppyville isn't so bad... the old one near downtown is on another planet
Alaina - Posted - 11/09/2012: 14:24:45
I wish we had classes of Walmarts.... Would make shopping better lol

Now that the local fabric store is out of business (which many blame on Wal Mart) it's about the only place you can get fabric too.
OM45GE - Posted - 11/09/2012: 14:51:29
We used to have two really good fabric stores and a Waverly outlet. Now it's Wal Mart or a long drive to a Joanne Fabric.
dat - Posted - 11/09/2012: 15:13:22
We used to have a hancocks fabric, it closed down about 5 years ago, my bride would get material from them pretty often
DeanT - Posted - 11/09/2012: 16:39:02
We have two Hobby Lobbies, two Joannes, a Hancocks, and two Michaels in our City, all within about 10 miles. My wife just finished her first quilt. Really cool.
DeanT - Posted - 11/09/2012: 18:05:08
Nope. The panels were all done on the various sewing machines she has. She loves vintage machines and has six of them. She did the quilting on her industrial machine.
OM45GE - Posted - 11/10/2012: 03:24:59
Nice. Post a picture if you get a chance.
My sister has a little Singer similar to this one except the box on hers is all polished wood. She brought it to a Singer store to have a little work done on it and the owner offered her a top of the line new machine in trade. She said no.
dat - Posted - 11/10/2012: 06:26:00
she said the right thing, those little machines will keep on going fer a great long while
OM45GE - Posted - 11/10/2012: 06:48:34
We've got a couple of newer machines and a serging machine. They work fine but they just don't seem as nice as her antique. Besides, it used to be our grandmother's.
dat - Posted - 11/10/2012: 06:59:59
my grandmother had one of the bigger ones on a bench, it dissapeared after she died, nobody seems to know anything about it
DeanT - Posted - 11/10/2012: 07:34:40
One of my wife's Singers is from 1928 and still going (looks like the photo above), and she also has two really cool looking "Rocketeer" machines from the 50's. I don't think we have pictures of any of them. She has three of the big sewing tables. She also has a vintage Italian machine, I have no idea what the name is. The cool thing is she's found them all on Craigslist or garage sales for next to nothing. She's amazing and can take them apart and clean them up and put them back together. They all work. The reason sewing machines stop working is because people don't oil them and they get gunked up. According to my wife, they hardly ever actually break.
dat - Posted - 11/10/2012: 08:14:32
I've heard that same thing, it's pretty much the same with guns too, a good cleaning will do wonders
did Ya'll have a gig last night?
OM45GE - Posted - 11/10/2012: 11:31:02
I used to run operations at a company that made wood furniture for college dorms, libraries, hospitals, etc. We had commercial machines that were scary fast. They sounded like those motorized cannons they had on the gunships in Viet Nam.
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 11/10/2012: 11:58:38
I have some friends who won't buy anything but an old sewing machine and they are always finding them cheap and fixing them up. I guess the newer ones are largely made of plastic parts and eventually wear down. But those old ones just need a little TLC every now and again and just keep going and going.
OM45GE - Posted - 11/10/2012: 12:00:43
I think when they were made the concept of disposable hadn't been thought of.
DeanT - Posted - 11/10/2012: 12:46:38
We had an early gig, only an hour, so I got home at a decent time!
dat - Posted - 11/12/2012: 06:55:55
MONDAY AGAIN, seems like this happened about this time last week too
dat - Posted - 11/12/2012: 07:12:08
I wonder if they had leapyear figured in
Are you gonna get a jug of Jim Beam and a carton of smokes just in case?

I'll be on a plane when our time supposedly runs out. If the world does end, I hope it's quick.
dat - Posted - 11/12/2012: 09:02:52
that may be the answer, the world is supposed to end (according to the calendar) if you're in a plane, you won't be on the world, so you should be OK
Alaina - Posted - 11/12/2012: 09:05:10
But how will the plane land if there is no world to land on? Wouldn't the plane just float forever and ever and we'd all die of starvation?
OM45GE - Posted - 11/12/2012: 09:35:27
The Mayans didn't have any planes so they failed to take them into account.
Alaina - Posted - 11/12/2012: 09:49:58
Happy Veteran's Day and a huge thank you to all who have served and are serving to protect our country!
The Mayans also probably didn't take into account all of the extremists who have apocalypse shelters and doomsday bags.
Alaina - Posted - 11/12/2012: 09:51:52
I want to survive world war three (we all know it's coming), but not the end of the world.

me neither, but I figure we'll be raptured up before then anyway
OM45GE - Posted - 11/12/2012: 10:14:02
I'm not sure what you mean by "we". I think my chances of going "up" anywhere are pretty slim.
Alaina - Posted - 11/12/2012: 10:17:15
In the words of my four-year-old cousin: "The nice man upstairs came downstairs so we don't have to go to the basement." I figure that those who really want to go upstairs get to, all they have to do is be willing to ask and then climb the stairs.
OM45GE - Posted - 11/12/2012: 10:17:55
That does sort of edge close to a forbidden topic doesn't it?
dat - Posted - 11/12/2012: 10:25:21
and the stairs are easy to climb once you ask.
Hey, did ya'll watch the fight that a race broke out in?
Alaina - Posted - 11/12/2012: 10:25:41
Well that's why I'm hoping that I don't get busted since it was sort of that topic but not blatantly about it... I mean it can be taken a lot of different ways.
