S'posed to start raining here later today, and we're already at the high temp

OM45GE - Posted - 01/31/2015:  09:53:07

Toby get cracks in his paw pads from the cold. They spread salt and chemicals on the road to clear the ice and that gets into the cuts an hurts him like crazy. I have to put booties on him. He hates those almost as much as the salt in his wounds.

dat - Posted - 01/31/2015:  09:57:03

you may look into this.    mushers secret ,  he may let you rub his feet and like it a lot more than boots

Thank you very much for that Daniel. I just ordered some. I can't believe I've never heard of it.

dat - Posted - 01/31/2015:  11:22:00

I had a lab that had tender feet, the gravel road was rough on him in the winter, that helped

OM45GE - Posted - 01/31/2015:  12:08:11

I'm looking forward to trying it.

DeanT - Posted - 01/31/2015:  12:47:09

It's hard to get the greyhounds to even go out in the back yard in the cold....

OM45GE - Posted - 02/01/2015:  07:14:53

Toby loves the cold and snow, but they put a lot of salt and chemicals on the roads around here and he gets these open winds on his pads and then the salt gets in them. It must hurt like hell. I have hunting dog boots I put on him but he does really like them much either.

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/01/2015:  08:21:28

We put those on our dog once,,he walked around stepping real high like he was walking in water. Hilarious.

DeanT - Posted - 02/01/2015:  09:39:00

we put boots on our male greyhound, and he laid on the couch and wouldn't get up...

OM45GE - Posted - 02/01/2015:  09:45:04

Toby is funny with the boots. Sometimes he starts off walking three legs (I only put a boot on the leg with the sore) like it is killing him. Then he gets outside and starts running like nothing it wrong

DeanT - Posted - 02/01/2015:  16:19:20

Ours will chew at it until he gets them off

OM45GE - Posted - 02/01/2015:  16:29:36

Toby will too if I leave them on and him alone.

dat - Posted - 02/02/2015:  12:07:35

Duct tape them on,   we have a cat here at work that has the run of the place,  I'll mess with it sometimes and tape her feet

OM45GE - Posted - 02/02/2015:  13:06:49

I've taped them on Toby before. He chews through the tape and swallows it. The vet said not to use tape anymore. Expensive vet visit.

dat - Posted - 02/02/2015:  13:16:36

yeah, there isn't ever a cheap vet visit, but you sure don't want to cause anything to make the price go up

DeanT - Posted - 02/02/2015:  16:14:31

we put tape, face up, on tables and counters we don't want our retarded cat to jump on. Good entertainment

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/02/2015:  16:51:31

LOL !

OM45GE - Posted - 02/02/2015:  19:06:33

That's funny.

dat - Posted - 02/04/2015:  10:05:48

you can't have to much tape to have fun with a cat

OM45GE - Posted - 02/04/2015:  11:21:42

I got the Musher's Secret Daniel and it seems to work great. We got another 15" of snow Tuesday and it didn't collect on his paws and the salt didn't seem to bother him.

Toby doesn't seem to like the product itself. He pins his ears back and acts as though I was hurting him with it. Weird.

A side effect was that it softened the calluses on my fretting fingers. It's almost like they went away completely to touch them but it feels fine when I play.

dat - Posted - 02/04/2015:  13:16:22

hopefully he gets used to it better than wearing boots, that is weird about him not liking it, unless it does kinda like tape on a cats foot when it's first on, or may be  just feels different

OM45GE - Posted - 02/04/2015:  13:30:08

It is weird.

dat - Posted - 02/04/2015:  13:41:28

after it's on, does he still act like that, or just while being put on

OM45GE - Posted - 02/04/2015:  16:43:14

Just when I go to put it on. I think he figures it like other medical treatments like cleaning his ears or giving him pills.

My kitty had her first physical therapy appointment yesterday.  At first she was kind of cool about it.  There was the vet, a tech and another woman (wasn't sure if the third woman was a tech in training or a new vet in training or what) and they were all petting her and giving her kind of a massage and she thought that was kind of cool.  But after about half an hour she was starting to get kind of tired and really wanted to just go home.

Tonight I get to do some flexing with her.  I won't do a full half hour, though.

Grammys are this weekend.  Definitely rooting for our buddy Chris (with Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen) to win bluegrass album of the year for Cold Spell.

dat - Posted - 02/06/2015:  08:42:01

they have done well,  I could lend them some of my pickin and ruin their chances

My cat gets PT from running from me every time he tries to bite me...

OM45GE - Posted - 02/06/2015:  19:59:17

My cat is nonexistent.

DeanT - Posted - 02/06/2015:  22:47:26

My cat was dropped off at a Goodwill store as a kitten 11 years ago... my wife worked there and brought him home. He's pretty cool

OM45GE - Posted - 02/07/2015:  04:39:11

I don't mind cats and the seem to like me. I just don't feel the urge to own one.

DeanT - Posted - 02/07/2015:  07:06:36

They are proof that other universes exist

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/07/2015:  08:07:58

I think my kitty teleports.  I'll leave her in one room then go into another one and there she is.

DeanT - Posted - 02/07/2015:  14:23:28

EXACTLY!!!

OM45GE - Posted - 02/07/2015:  16:12:18

Have you tried a staple gun?

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 02/07/2015:  18:00:51

Staple guns scare me.

OM45GE - Posted - 02/07/2015:  18:28:22

There was a guy paralyzed by a nail gun in my home town. He was getting his hair cut and someone was working in the store next door to the barber shop. A nail from the nail gun they were using went through the wall and flew into his back.

A good example of how fragile our lives can be, and we never know what can happen...

Indeed.

I totaled my car Wednesday. Hit some black ice on the highway and went head on into the guard rail at 50 mph. Thankfully no major injuries, just bruised and sore. Loved the car and sad to see it go.

DeanT - Posted - 02/08/2015:  07:34:30

Glad your ok!!! Now the fun of getting a new car!

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/08/2015:  07:39:51

Whoa! Are you kiddin' ,Bill? That's some Houdini trick you pulled- 50mph! I hate black ice - can't see it very well up ahead- next thing you know you feel like you're just floating above the road. Had the truck going sideways last year - hit some bare pavement just in time to jerk it back straight.
Hope you heal up quick. I see New England's in for some more snow dump- you guys are starting to impersonate Buffalo.

OM45GE - Posted - 02/08/2015:  10:24:12

I was merging from I 495 onto Route 2 and accelerating to traffic speed. I want  under an bridge and the car snapped sideways. I almost caught it but it went th other way  I caught it again but it kept going around and went head on into the guardrail.

Thanks Dean. Normally I would be happy about shopping for a car. But mine was a 1999 BMW M 3 convertible that I bought new and kept in perfect shape. We just had to buy a new car for my wife because her engine went south so I can't really afford another car right now let alone another M 3.

chuckv97 - Posted - 02/08/2015:  13:17:14

Bridges and curves are the worst for black ice.

OM45GE - Posted - 02/08/2015:  13:32:15

Yup. That's for sure. I've done a lot of driving and racing on frozen lakes. I think I could have caught it if I had more room. The guardrail is right at the edge of the left lane on that road so there's no room for error.

Ouch - painful to look at

OM45GE - Posted - 02/08/2015:  13:49:36

Sure is. The car was mint too. The crumple zones and other safety gear worked perfectly.
