I have less of a desire for "stuff" than I used to

DeanT - Posted - 06/12/2014:  15:26:01

we sometimes talk about selling all our stuff, buying an RV and taking off.

dat - Posted - 06/12/2014:  15:28:16

ha, us too,  maby we can hook a trailer behind you and ride fer a while,  I've always wanted to see Yellowstone

chuckv97 - Posted - 06/12/2014:  19:27:37

That's what I'm doing in a couple of years- buy a motor home and travel around. Catch the BG Festivals and guitar camps, etc. plus I have family and friends scattered all over the place.

DeanT - Posted - 06/12/2014:  23:12:08

If we do it, our dream is to leave nothing behind. The motorhome and what's in it will be all we have.

OM45GE - Posted - 06/13/2014:  03:03:02

I'd like to retire on a sailboat. Definitely have to keep the extraneous stuff to a minimum.

DeanT - Posted - 06/13/2014:  06:07:39

What would you name a sailboat? I think I would name mine "Bob"

dat - Posted - 06/13/2014:  07:19:30

I've always heard that boats were s'posed to be named after wimminses, bad luck to name them after men for some reason

OM45GE - Posted - 06/13/2014:  08:21:45

I don't know. My last sailboat was named Thalia and they do call them she or her. However, lots of Navy ships are named after men. There was a WWII Destroyer named The Cogswell after a relative of mine who was an Admiral.

dat - Posted - 06/13/2014:  10:44:42

I was looking at boat names and these two came up   " Momas Pist"   and  " Mental Pause"

OM45GE - Posted - 06/13/2014:  12:34:05

Those are good. I've seen "Sea Deuces" and Sea Deuced".

DeanT - Posted - 06/13/2014:  12:46:12

I could name my boat after my x-wife, but it would probably suck my bank account dry, max out my credit cards, and them set sail without me in the middle of the night.

OM45GE - Posted - 06/13/2014:  12:49:18

They say a good way to get a feel for the joys of boat ownership is to stand full clothed in a cold shower and cut up $100 bill as fast as you can.

DeanT - Posted - 06/13/2014:  15:26:33

Owning a boat in Kansas would be like owning a snowmobile in Florida...

OM45GE - Posted - 06/13/2014:  15:40:49

Don't you have Prairie Schooners?

DeanT - Posted - 06/13/2014:  18:49:09

Yep! In the parades...yes

OM45GE - Posted - 06/14/2014:  05:47:06

You could still do the cold shower thing.

DeanT - Posted - 06/14/2014:  06:46:25

or toyboats in the bathtub

dat - Posted - 06/14/2014:  06:48:58

folks down by the coast use snowmobiles goose hunting, the tracks do purty well in the muddy ricefields

OM45GE - Posted - 06/14/2014:  07:29:13

That's a cool idea. This area is a huge snowmobile haven. I'm not into them myself, but I used to run a trucking company that hauled them into the dealers.

DeanT - Posted - 06/14/2014:  08:06:22

ricefields? In Tx?

dat - Posted - 06/14/2014:  08:21:53

oh yeah, down by the coast, it's rice fields as far as you can see, pretty much region 6 here that isn't built up in houses id rice fields

Never would have guessed that in a million years. Do they supply rice through out the US? What's region A?

OM45GE - Posted - 06/14/2014:  18:16:40

That's wild.

chuckv97 - Posted - 06/14/2014:  18:22:04

"A" looks to be in Mayheeko. I trucked a load of rice out of Arkansas once, but not Texas. I hear there's lots of sugar cane down there also.

OM45GE - Posted - 06/14/2014:  18:35:47

Ain't no more cane on the Brazos.

chuckv97 - Posted - 06/14/2014:  18:45:30

Is that a song?

DeanT - Posted - 06/14/2014:  19:27:31

I wonder if Lyle Lovett and Townes Van Zandt knew each other

OM45GE - Posted - 06/16/2014:  03:52:54

He's covered a lot of Townes' songs.

dat - Posted - 06/16/2014:  10:03:18

dat - Posted - 06/16/2014:  10:47:22

I like a lot of Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark  also

OM45GE - Posted - 06/16/2014:  10:50:10

Bad day?

dat - Posted - 06/16/2014:  12:31:47

probably no worse than others, jest my patience with people is thin today

OM45GE - Posted - 06/16/2014:  12:42:06

Like this?

dat - Posted - 06/16/2014:  14:15:47

pretty much, but thinking of Lyle Lovetts band name helps

OM45GE - Posted - 06/16/2014:  15:20:48

His Large Band?

dat - Posted - 06/17/2014:  05:45:07

yep, who else would name a band something other than a band name, I have a simple sense of humor,  I could play and name my band Dat and his unknown small band

OM45GE - Posted - 06/17/2014:  08:09:16

Lyle is great. I've been a fan since before he was really well known. I like his buddy REK too.

dat - Posted - 06/17/2014:  10:09:29

Gringo Honeymoon,   5 pound bass,  the road goes on forever,   the front porch song,    Man  I could listen to REK all day long

OM45GE - Posted - 06/17/2014:  11:29:24

He's great. I would love to see them together.

dat - Posted - 06/17/2014:  12:11:38

OM45GE - Posted - 06/17/2014:  16:17:57

Thanks. I've seen lots of those. I meant in person. Lyle came to a great small venue near us with his acoustic band and put on a fabulous show. He gave credit to REK and I got my hopes up that he was there, but no.

dat - Posted - 06/18/2014:  09:15:37

I haven't been to a "concert" or to actually hear any one person in about 20 years, but it's nice when you go somewhere and there is a live band or somebody playing

OM45GE - Posted - 06/18/2014:  09:22:07

There is a great venue about twenty minutes from my best friends place called Stone Mountain Arts Center (SMAC). It's a converted barn and very intimate, seats a couple hundred people. They bring in great acts. Bella Fleck has been there, Lyle and lots of others.

dat - Posted - 06/18/2014:  13:44:54

nothing really like that around here, if you go listen to somebody it's at a bar,    I haven't been in a bar in a great long time, there are probably some of the same folks there now that there was years ago

OM45GE - Posted - 06/18/2014:  15:54:27

There are a few places within reasonable distance like SMAC but it's about the best. Plenty of the bar scenes too but I don't do those either.

DeanT - Posted - 06/18/2014:  16:18:15

My bar band finally called it quits last month. it was fun, lots of good times, but I'm glad it's over. 4 years was enough. It's nice to be home on Friday and Saturday nights.

OM45GE - Posted - 06/19/2014:  04:00:13

I like doing open mike nights. No obligation, do it when you feel like it and you play just a few tunes.
