I'd rather get off at the past.... like about 1960 or so...

I've put in my application for reincarnation

OM45GE - Posted - 09/06/2016:  12:00:02

With my luck I would come back as a tapeworm.

dat - Posted - 09/06/2016:  12:57:05

I guess there could be worse things to come back as, not sure what though

dat - Posted - 09/06/2016:  13:04:49

a dog ass gnat would be bad too

OM45GE - Posted - 09/06/2016:  16:11:14

Pinworms are pretty gross.

DeanT - Posted - 09/06/2016:  16:28:06

I'd rather try some other world... I've had enough of this one

dmiller - Posted - 09/06/2016:  21:35:38

Sadly (or maybe not depending on your wishes) the "other" world will happen to us all sooner or later.  Probably sooner.

I used to hear people say "Live life like it's your last day", so I'd quit my job and get drunk

DeanT - Posted - 09/07/2016:  04:44:20

the way people text and drive, it could happen at any instant

If I lived like today was my last day,  I would withdraw all my saving from the bank, and go spend both dollars at once

OM45GE - Posted - 09/07/2016:  06:31:17

Can I borrow a dollar?

dat - Posted - 09/07/2016:  08:33:08

Thanks. That will about double my fortune.

dat - Posted - 09/07/2016:  12:03:33

I never had a plan to make a fortune, just didn't want to leave the kids any bills

chuckv97 - Posted - 09/07/2016:  12:17:20

My kids make a lot more dough than I do. I'll let'em buy my coffin....

OM45GE - Posted - 09/07/2016:  12:25:45

Careful, they may just toss you out back.

dat - Posted - 09/07/2016:  12:36:04

that would be fine with me,   they can do what ever they want to with Chuck,   ha,.   big

I always told my bride to just drag me out in the woods far enough so the dogs don't drag me back, and play Tom T hall's song I like beer at the party afterwards

Now that sounds like a good funeral.

I figure one of those New Orleans brass bands too

OM45GE - Posted - 09/07/2016:  13:40:36

I do a version of Saint James Infirmary and love the line, "Put a jazz band on my hearse wagon, to raise hell as we roll along".

DeanT - Posted - 09/07/2016:  13:43:28

No music for me, I've had enough of it for several lifetimes. I've already told my wife to have me cremated and thrown my ashes in the Arkansas River. Really.

dat - Posted - 09/07/2016:  13:56:14

there is a nice view of the Arkansas River from Petit Jean mtn in Arkansas

DeanT - Posted - 09/07/2016:  15:16:36

It comes right through the middle of Wichita

chuckv97 - Posted - 09/07/2016:  15:57:25

I used to deliver bulk chocolate to a candy manufacturer in Pueblo, Colorado. The Arkansas River runs through there too, coming off the Southern Rockies.

I've always liked Don Williams, but I never have heard that one either, thanks

chuckv97 - Posted - 09/08/2016:  08:01:15

Nice tune. I listened to a lot of Don Williams when I was recovering from illness in the early nineties. Great soothing voice.

He has done some great stuff.

OM45GE - Posted - 09/08/2016:  10:57:11

There's so much wonderful music out there. I feel really lucky to have it a part of my life.

chuckv97 - Posted - 09/08/2016:  11:44:04

Before the phonograph and radio people probably only knew a handful of songs that local musicians played

dat - Posted - 09/08/2016:  11:47:43

most of those they either heard in a local church or bar

DeanT - Posted - 09/08/2016:  13:38:13

when I was a kid, we had a 78 record player and a stack of records. We wore them out

dat - Posted - 09/08/2016:  13:49:28

I remember listening to Earnest Tubb,   the Texas Playboys, and Texas Ruby on 78 speed records as a kid.

my father played guitar with Texas Ruby some on her road trips, not full time, but did travel some with her band

That's cool, Daniel. Did your Dad play lead guitar?

dat - Posted - 09/08/2016:  14:40:49

that  I don't know, my mother talked about it but never got into any detail,  it was before they were married

OM45GE - Posted - 09/09/2016:  02:33:58

I've read that before radios and phonographs came along, there was a huge industry in sheet music and a greater percentage of homes had musicians. They made their own entertainment.

DeanT - Posted - 09/09/2016:  05:27:04

I never did learn how to read sheet music

dat - Posted - 09/09/2016:  05:51:48

I have a cousin that played piano for a living all his life, it was the only job he ever had, he didn't learn how to read music until he was in his mid to late 60's

dat - Posted - 09/09/2016:  08:09:15

then there is me, that can't read music, very slow at tab and sounds bad enough that people might pay me to quit playing

chuckv97 - Posted - 09/09/2016:  08:47:25

When I was 15 I took formal guitar lessons for a year and learned out of the Alfred and Mel Bay books - they used standard music notation. Later on I studied classical guitar and got deeper into it. For banjo it's just tab, but I can transpose a piece of sheet music to banjo tab, so it comes in handy sometimes.

DeanT - Posted - 09/09/2016:  09:03:03

I've never used tab either, can't really make heads or tails of it. Honestly, in the time it would take me to decipher a few notes of tab or sheet music, I can find the whole song by trial/error/ear. I learned by the "show me that" method, while jamming with friends.

dmiller - Posted - 09/09/2016:  10:06:01

I can read music notation, but not for the banjo since I don't really know all the notes on the fingerboard like I do the keyboard of a piano.  I figured out most banjo tunes by ear, but tab helped if I needed to figure out a difficult part of the tune I was stuck on. Kinda like putting your truck into 4 wheel drive to keep you moving forward when the going gets tough.

OM45GE - Posted - 09/09/2016:  10:28:13

I read tab and notation. I prefer tab for banjo and guitar. I spend too much time figuring out fingering on notation.
