I'm a newbie, ya hey, and you all sound like interesting people -- but what th' heck is this thread about?
Alaina - Posted - 10/17/2012: 13:36:26
It's about nothing and everything haha. I started here two weeks ago and realized that we all just talk on here about whatever we want. Like I could talk about how I wish that California weather would actually match what month it is, and then we all comment on it until someone starts a new topic :)
(at least I think that's what we're doing...)
dat - Posted - 10/17/2012: 13:49:34
it started out a few years back with just the "Post game" then Orical , been a long time since he has been around, came up with the 300, who ever got the 300 the post won. didn;'t win anything, just won. then after that the I survived the 300 post game came around. we actually mailed prizes for different rounds of posting. pretty much who ever won the last round made the rules and gave the prize for the next round.
now it's pretty much what ever comes up. some good folks here, glad to see ya'll
Alaina - Posted - 10/17/2012: 13:51:13
Ah okay. I figured it had to start from somewhere. Personally I kind of like the random topics, they are fun to read through!
dat - Posted - 10/17/2012: 13:52:09
I thought it was sunny and warm in California all the time, land of the sun, surf, stuck up hollywood types and folks that listen to the beach boys and highly restricted emission vehicles
Alaina - Posted - 10/17/2012: 13:53:32
It is... The problem is that I'm from Kansas and so I miss the actual seasons :-/
dat - Posted - 10/17/2012: 13:57:25
my nephew went to college in Kansas, he never graduated, but he had fun and drank a lot of beer
dat - Posted - 10/17/2012: 14:00:13
we have actual seasons here in Texas, Summer lasts from may through October, fall lasts from November to December, winter is January and February, then spring is March and April
Alaina - Posted - 10/17/2012: 14:01:13
Haha I went back there for college too (only made it one year before realizing I hated the field I was studying so I packed up and came out here). Definitely have many fond memories of fun with drinking... And some that it's probably a good thing I don't remember LOL
dat - Posted - 10/18/2012: 05:46:33
I would move to Kansas, but it would be a long drive to work for me too
Alaina - Posted - 10/18/2012: 08:12:44
I'd move to back to Kansas, but every time I visit I am reminded of all the family drama there and it makes me happy to know that I moved away lol

I have a sister that waking up and getting a cup of coffee is a big ordeal that the whole world needs to know about and doesn't understand what all she had to go through to get it done and how great she is for achieving it
DeanT - Posted - 10/18/2012: 13:31:12
My wife grew up in Maine, and lived in Orlando for over 10 years, and still likes Kansas best... the people, and the lack of critters. She said Florida is a never ending source for slimy bugs and lizards and spiders and creepy crawly things bent on biting, stinging, spitting, and eating you. In Kansas it gets so hot and dry in the summer, the creepy crawlers cant survive.
Dat... I'm guessing there is some fibromyalga involved? I got a sister that uses that all the time
dat - Posted - 10/18/2012: 13:34:24
my sister never complains about hurting or anything, she just the drama queen about what ever she is doing and wants everybody to know that she is doing something
Alaina - Posted - 10/18/2012: 13:50:56
That's how my sister is too. She can be completely normal and perfectly fine around everyone except my mom. When mom walks in, my sister instantly goes all helpless and demands help with every little thing...

YEP, when you have kids, throw them out in the yard with the dogs and let them learn to take care of themselves when they grow up.
well, we didn't do that, but we tried to teach them responsibility and be able to and want to do things for themselves. it always made me proud when I got something done without any help from other people. it can be hard to decide when to help and when to stand back and watch them learn

I couldn't agree more. I got back from a three day business trip last night around 8:00 and my 11 year old had dinner waiting for me, the trash and recycling out at the end of the driveway and a note in front of my plate welcoming me home.
I'm not like this guy though:

I tried to teach the cats to be more responsible but they mostly just laughed at me.

There was a single post from the elusive 'Niffer Ace, I'm not sure if it was a post and run, or if it was more like a bigfoot sighting, nothing about 'Niffers feet , just there was a glimpse then she was gone
dat - Posted - 10/19/2012: 10:22:35
I wasn't fast enough, it was like wooooosh, I didn't realize she was here 'till she was gone
Alaina - Posted - 10/19/2012: 10:28:18
Isn't that how it always goes? You get your camera just in time to miss the picture lol
dat - Posted - 10/19/2012: 10:34:21
no tellin how many jackalopes, unicorns and bigfoots I've missed from being to slow with the camera
OM45GE - Posted - 10/19/2012: 11:44:11
At least with digital we don't have to worry about not having film in the camera.
DeanT - Posted - 10/19/2012: 13:11:17
I once saw a pretty girl hugging an alligator... but my camera battery was low and I missed the picture :(
Alaina - Posted - 10/19/2012: 13:12:09
Aww it's okay, my best friend managed to capture it :)
(and thank you for the "pretty" comment!)
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/19/2012: 13:23:33
I've been super busy. And, just for the record, I've never hugged an alligator.
dat - Posted - 10/19/2012: 13:33:10
you've missed out then, everybody needs to hug an alligator at least once.
busy at the school or busy at the tack store, hope all has been well while you were out, we missed you posting
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/19/2012: 13:37:36
At the school. Wipes me out so much I don't even want to look at a computer when I get home. I'm thinking about quitting the tack store so I have a break.
My supervisor managed to get me a temporary promotion (with a temporary pay raise) while I'm working on this project and is hoping to make it permanent.
So it's a good busy. But I miss ya'll.
DeanT - Posted - 10/19/2012: 13:40:30
Good to see you Niffer! I saw you on one of Diva's FB threads... so I knew you didn't die or anything.
No Alligatore for me! Especially with no duct tape on his Mouth, Alaina is also pretty brave! :)
Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/19/2012: 13:46:49
I went to this conference thing down in New Orleans about a year and a half ago and they had a big party one night. It was pretty boring. I decided to leave and as I was walking out I found there was this line of people, so I went to look for why there was a line. Some guy had brought a small alligator in and folks were lining up to get their pictures taken with it.
Poor thing had tape around its mouth and was probably in agony from the pounding music strobe lights and terrified.
I felt sick the rest of the night thinking about the poor thing.
