Theres lots of truth to that... we have a cat too...

"There must be something good about him"

DeanT - Posted - 04/15/2016:  05:01:22

we have no creepy crawlers bugs spiders mice or any of that stuff. I'll always have a cat around for that reason alone!

dat - Posted - 04/15/2016:  07:43:14

if you don't feed the cats, they'll chase mice, if you feed them, then they lay up on the furniture and get fat

DeanT - Posted - 04/16/2016:  04:09:00

Ours gets a handful of food a day... we can't leave food in his dish with 3 dogs around!

dat - Posted - 04/16/2016:  06:45:30

yeah, dog's like cat food, and love the little treats found in the cat box

DeanT - Posted - 04/16/2016:  12:22:45

we've never had that problem... but the Canadian geese treats outside are another story!

Your dogs would LOVE it up here.  Right down by Lake Superior is a place called Bayfront Park sitting on about 30 to 40 acres of "green space" (a big grass field)  where they have a big stage for concerts/ 4th of July fire works/ etc.  Every year thousands of geese are there feeding on the grass (or whatever they find there to eat), and you can't take one step in any direction without stepping in goose poop.  Here's a partial pic of the grounds:

OM45GE - Posted - 04/16/2016:  13:39:35

That looks great.

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/16/2016:  18:47:16

Could never figure why dogs eat goose poop

DeanT - Posted - 04/16/2016:  19:22:37

That's a lot of people stepping in goose poo! It gets so heavy on the golf course across the street, that they have to blow it off the greens with a power blower

OM45GE - Posted - 04/16/2016:  19:30:36

We've got lots of wild turkeys in the area. Toby seems to think their poop is pretty tasty too.

DeanT - Posted - 04/17/2016:  06:20:15

It's must not be bad for them... our dogs are still alive

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/17/2016:  07:57:56

Then they want to lick your face

My last Springer Spaniel before Toby escaped through the back door screen once. I stopped chasing him at the edge of the swampy area behind the house and watch as he wallowed in the mud for about ten minutes. He made a huge detour and rolled in something for a while and then ate some of it. Finally, he moseyed back with lots of detours. As he got closer, I saw that he was covered in puckers and looked about twice his size. When he got really close, I discovered that the "something" he had rolled in and eaten was a very dead and decaying animal. He smelled horrible and his breath could have been used as a weapon of mass destruction. It took me about an hour to pull all the puckers off him - me gagging all the time and then another hour to bathe him several times to get the dead stink off him. The bad breath faded over the next few days but was offset by the frequent puking and diarrhea he got from eating the carcass.

I was ready to sell him for medical experimentation but he seemed to think it was all great fun.

Aarrgghh......."man's best friend", huh.....

dat - Posted - 04/18/2016:  06:17:25

I think I would have bought some clippers

DeanT - Posted - 04/18/2016:  08:15:07

And I thought the rabbit nest snack my greyhounds had last year was bad...

dat - Posted - 04/18/2016:  13:04:23

I had one dog that loved fresh cow poop, he would come back to the house wiggling all over, green from the neck down to the middle of his back...............wanting to get as close to you as he could

OM45GE - Posted - 04/18/2016:  18:25:23

He was still a good dog.

DeanT - Posted - 04/19/2016:  05:05:32

dogs probably wonder why people are so clean

dat - Posted - 04/19/2016:  07:41:32

he was one of the best dogs I ever had, as far as friend and hunting partner, he just likes stinky cologne, true toilet water big

DeanT - Posted - 04/19/2016:  09:53:51

They think we like it to, that's why they jump on the bed and lay their butt on your pillow

dat - Posted - 04/19/2016:  10:10:55

then lick you on the face when you don't expect it, that dog would always sneak in a lick when ever you weren't paying attention

OM45GE - Posted - 04/19/2016:  11:43:56

Toby's woken me up with a thorough face wash.

dat - Posted - 04/19/2016:  15:24:37

try not to think about him cleaning his gonads before he woke you up  big

DeanT - Posted - 04/19/2016:  15:46:51

Dog breath is so refreshing...

OM45GE - Posted - 04/19/2016:  16:38:05

That's the problem, I KNOW where his mouth has been.

DeanT - Posted - 04/19/2016:  18:38:08

Someone needs to invent doggy breath mints...

They look like green Honeycone cereal

OM45GE - Posted - 04/20/2016:  07:09:10

They do for sure.

dat - Posted - 04/20/2016:  07:27:43

I wonder how they taste?   I used to eat parts of the field and trial dog food when I was a kid, our old lab would eat and I would sit next to his bowl and pick out the parts I wanted. that dog and me were almost as one from the time I was still in diapers to after I started school

OM45GE - Posted - 04/20/2016:  09:29:13

I've eaten Milk Bones and kibble dog food, mostly to freak someone out. They were pretty dry.

I read once that dry dog food would be the best pick if you were going to be stranded on an island with only one food. It's supposed to be well balanced for omnivores like us and dogs.

DeanT - Posted - 04/20/2016:  10:13:59

I remember trying gainsburgers when I was a kid... I bet no one even remembers them... hamburger patties for dogs... they were gross

dat - Posted - 04/20/2016:  10:59:14

I had forgotten all about gains burgers,  I never did try that, but have gnawed on a milk bone

chuckv97 - Posted - 04/20/2016:  15:42:37

I remember those Gravy Train commercials - they made dog food look delicious

DeanT - Posted - 04/20/2016:  16:15:42

I liked Cat food commercials... Morris was cool

I wonder if those Bacon Treats taste anything like bacon.

Don't know. I do know that the old jerky treats didn't have a texture anything like jerky. The Milk Bone plain dog biscuits aren't bad...sort of like a fancy expensive granola bar.  But the taste kinda hangs around.

You see, years ago, an old drinking buddy of mine and I ran out of any kind of food in the house..................

There's not much else to tell. I can tell you that if you're gonna eat Milk Bone dog biscuits, stick with Scotch.........they're just awful with Tequila. ;-)

They're not bad chopped up in scrambled eggs, but they're just awful in a salad......so I've heard.

not much mixes with tequila, well, salt, lime, and maybe a beer

OM45GE - Posted - 04/21/2016:  12:17:20

In my experience, nothing good has ever come out of a tequila bottle.

dat - Posted - 04/21/2016:  12:19:38

of all the beer, whiskey, liquor I have drank in my life time,  I agree with you there for sure
