Yup.  Me on mando and wearing the khaki colored Gibson ball cap.  The lady doing the filming, was friends with the folks on the other side of the table, so she was focusing on them.  No dancing allowed at this jam!   evil  big

Whole lot of fiddles!  Looks like a fun jam.

dat - Posted - 01/19/2016:  05:18:40

that does look fun

OM45GE - Posted - 01/19/2016:  05:53:15

We've got a couple of "Music Circle" jams in the area. You take turns presenting a song (your supposed to bring a chord sheet and everyone takes a turn with solos.

dat - Posted - 01/19/2016:  05:55:18

looks like a fiddle might could take the place of the banjer yes

OM45GE - Posted - 01/19/2016:  07:48:42

We're usually heavy on guitars but there are a couple of really good fiddle players who show up from time to time.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/19/2016:  09:50:25

Our jams in Calgary are guitar heavy too. I was at a jam in Nevada last year - there were 27 people ....lots of racket, some out of tune, others off the beat - crazy.

dat - Posted - 01/19/2016:  09:55:28

out of tune, off beat, crazy,  and I wasn't even there , how could it be?

OM45GE - Posted - 01/19/2016:  12:19:32

LOL.

I play a few times a year with a group of pretty good musicians. There are several guitarists, but they're all accomplished enough that they play different parts and it's not just a strum fest.

dat - Posted - 01/19/2016:  14:38:27

I have two brother in laws that are pretty good guitar players, my bride used to play a lot but quit except for about once a year or so, I have cousins that have made a living with music, but I never spent the time to gain the ability, it's still fun when I sit down and get away from the everyday life BS that takes up so much of life

OM45GE - Posted - 01/19/2016:  16:25:47

I totally escape with music. I work from home and when the BS gets to be too much, I pull out a guitar or the banjo and play for half an hour or so. My cares melt away.

DeanT - Posted - 01/20/2016:  05:22:22

I've been playing so much country and western swing, I don't know if I could even hang in a bluegrass jam these days! I could easily hang up my banjo, and spend the rest of my life with a square neck reso guitar on my lap

dat - Posted - 01/20/2016:  10:17:17

Take me back to Tulsa,  Roly Poly, Cherokee maiden, Faded Love, all good songs, but I like a variety, slip in some sugarfoot rag, and some Skinard, Marshal Tucker, Pure Prarie,  can't forget Doc Watson, anything by Waylon or Earl

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/20/2016:  10:22:17

Yep, a good song is a good song,,whether it's bluegrass, old time, folk, country, rock, blues, whatever

dat - Posted - 01/20/2016:  13:30:38

I have to stop, listen and take a good pause when ever I hear Louis Armstrong sing "what a wonderful world"

DeanT - Posted - 01/20/2016:  17:08:25

One of the best songs ever! We play it, and it always goes over well

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/20/2016:  17:58:57

Yeh, love it.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/21/2016:  02:47:06

You should listen to Eva Cassidy's version. She passed away far too young of cancer. Eva had the voice of an angel. There's a live version she sang at her last public performance shorty before she died but I couldn't find it. Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.

That is beautiful. man she was only 33

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/21/2016:  06:57:01

Thnx for that, Bill. She was/is terrific. (I'm a sucker for chick singers anyway, but she's special)

dat - Posted - 01/21/2016:  07:00:04

Dang it Bill, now I have spent all morning listening to her songs

OM45GE - Posted - 01/21/2016:  09:54:28

Glad you all like her. She was virtually unknown outside a small circle while she was alive. I think her voice is one of the purest I've every heard.

DeanT - Posted - 01/21/2016:  16:16:41

 haden't heard of her!

OM45GE - Posted - 01/22/2016:  02:30:14

She was a landscaper by trade. That's sort of what killer her - she died of skin cancer. She played and recorded what she liked, not what the record companies wanted her to so they didn't really know how to market her.

DeanT - Posted - 01/22/2016:  05:43:59

Skin cancer from sun exposure? Damn...

banjoscotty - Posted - 01/22/2016:  06:06:40

HA,,HA,,Sometimes I wonder if I'll survive the jam sessions like we did the 300 post game??

dat - Posted - 01/22/2016:  06:44:48

I'm amazed I've survived as long as I have even at 46 from the way I lived at 26

dat - Posted - 01/22/2016:  06:45:13

or even 36

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/22/2016:  08:03:14

Thinking of skin cancer - I'm getting lots of sun here in Arizona. Do you folks use sun screen?

dat - Posted - 01/22/2016:  08:57:40

you're a long way from home,

I don't use it regularly, but I do when I go fishing or go to the lake

how long till you get back home?

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/22/2016:  09:09:33

I'm here for another 3 weeks or so. I take the winters off now. Go back to work March 30

dat - Posted - 01/22/2016:  09:26:40

New Mexico is as far west as I've been, lately I try not to get any farther from the house than I can walk back to in a day if my truck breaks down

DeanT - Posted - 01/22/2016:  10:14:06

I'm out running in the sun every day, no sun screen, I'm doomed

dat - Posted - 01/22/2016:  12:25:17

I used to work in construction, I went to work wearing shorts and work boots,  no shirt, no hat.    now I wear a wide brimmed hat when I'm in the sun, I wear a ball cap to work, but I'm in a shop, anything outside I try to keep covered a little better than I used to

OM45GE - Posted - 01/22/2016:  12:38:18

I do wear sunscreen regularly and still got skin cancer about 20 years ago. I was very fair skinned as a kid and we had a boat so I got a few burns. I think I know what kicked it off too.

dat - Posted - 01/22/2016:  13:17:15

whew, I used to get sunburned bad, I'm blond haired, light skinned, and burn from just a 100 watt light bulb.  I still wore shorts and no shirt hoping to get a tan.    I would burn and peel, burn and peel while everybody else got darker

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/22/2016:  13:17:47

Whew, Bill. How did you get rid of it?

dat - Posted - 01/22/2016:  15:11:20

ears?   my paw in law has had several spots on his ears he had to have taken off, been a while though, doing good now

DeanT - Posted - 01/22/2016:  17:12:00

my Dad and sister have had spots removed, and they never went out in the sun. I used to be fair skinned... but it's turned to leather from too much sun.

OM45GE - Posted - 01/22/2016:  18:15:17

It was in the middle of my lower back. When I was diagnosed, the doc said, judging from the size of it, I had probably had a sunburn about five or six years before. I thought back and remembered a sailing trip with a friend. It was a beautiful day and I took off my shirt and asked my friend to put sun block on my back. He did and a few hours later said, "holy s***, that stuff really works. " When I asked what he meant he said he never believed sun blocks worked so he had just slapped it on and I had a bad burn on my lower back.

They removed it surgically and then froze the area around it followed by topical chemo. So far it hasn't recurred.

DeanT - Posted - 01/22/2016:  19:02:45

Glad its never come back Bill! I'm out in the sun almost every day, sometimes 3-4 hours. But I never burn, because I'm out there daily. I've tried sunblock, but it it intensifies the sweat and heat, to unbearable levels, and gets sweated off in no time.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/22/2016:  19:14:45

Maybe your sweat blocks out some sun

OM45GE - Posted - 01/23/2016:  03:05:44

One of the keys to sunblock is putting it on well before you go outside and letting it get absorbed into the skin.

DeanT - Posted - 01/23/2016:  06:56:16

When I'm out training in the summer, I'm sweating hard almost from the beginning. Even the most hard core waterproof stuff doesn't last more than a few minutes, and just makes a greasy overheated sloppy mess.

Oh yeah, remember when my old station wagon bit the dust last month? Here's my new-to-me Honda Accord. I really like it.

dat - Posted - 01/23/2016:  07:17:55

probably gets great fuel mileage too

OM45GE - Posted - 01/23/2016:  07:46:13

That's in beautiful shape. I've had a few Hondas. They were all really good cars.

chuckv97 - Posted - 01/23/2016:  08:27:47

Nice- can't go wrong with a Honda

a friend on mine is a big Harley guy, he has 4 harleys and swears by them, but when he rides his 74 honda 750 with that type of frame, he has a bigger grin than when he rides any of his harleys
