Bob Atcher, the singing cowboy, was mayor of Schaumburg at that time.

I don't remember that... hmmmm... I do remember Ray Rainer and friends, and Harry Carry and Jack Briskhouse And Bobby Hull and...
ErikH - Posted - 12/26/2012: 07:54:26
I loved Ray Rayner. We didn't move back to the Chicago area until '76; up until then I could only watch it when we came into town and stayed with my grandparents.

WHEW, good thing about the day after a holiday is that we do stay busy
DeanT - Posted - 12/26/2012: 16:29:25
There's still fudge and sugar cookies left, so life is good...
dat - Posted - 12/27/2012: 12:54:14
a lady that used to work here made some brandy muffins, they sure tasted good even though there probably wasn't much brandy in them
DeanT - Posted - 12/27/2012: 14:55:07
So, do wives take inventory on the chocolate chips that are left after making cookies? Or can I make them disappear, and she will never know?
dat - Posted - 12/27/2012: 15:05:13
mine keeps track of how many are left so she can figure her baking, but she usually buys extra for "shrinkage" on the shelf
OM45GE - Posted - 12/29/2012: 10:32:12
We had a mouse who was fond of chocolate chips. I figured when I caught him he would be fat with bad teeth and pimples.
DeanT - Posted - 12/29/2012: 11:25:33
The only evidence of Christmas left is two cookies and several small pieces of fudge. Neither of which will last much longer
mbanjo - Posted - 12/29/2012: 19:56:49
We actually had a heavy hail storm on christmas eve, it didn't melt for ages and from a distance it looked like snow
DeanT - Posted - 12/29/2012: 22:12:22
I hate hail worse than tornados... it's incredibly destructive
mbanjo - Posted - 12/31/2012: 01:20:42
Do you get many tornadoes? We only get strong winds and the occasional Willie-Willie. Up north they get Cyclones, which are the same as your hurricanes
OM45GE - Posted - 12/31/2012: 04:34:01
They get them a lot more out the in the plains states where Dean lives than we do here in New England but we do get them.

We get a lot of tornados. Going to the basement when we hear a siren is a way of life. However, although totally devastating, their destruction is concentrated by comparison. Where as a tornado will rip up a neighborhood or small town, and leave adjacent areas almost untouched, it doesn't cause the wide spread destruction of an entire city or state like hurricanes, or even ice and hail storms.

Hey, it's snowing today!!!
dat - Posted - 12/31/2012: 12:28:07
raining here, but I put out 700 onion bulbs over the weekend, so it'll do 'em good
DeanT - Posted - 12/31/2012: 12:37:04
Thanks for reminding me, tomorrow I have to bring down and put away about 7000 Christmas bulbs...

We definitely need more snow. Three years ago the snowbanks were over 8' high. We had to bring in a bucket loader to clear the end of the driveway so we could fit more snow and get the cars out of the garage.
DeanT - Posted - 01/01/2013: 09:48:58
Took down the Christmas lights. 21 degrees and light dusting of dry snow on everything, very pretty. Perfect start to a new year. Can't wait to get the dogs out running this afternoon! I might even blow off my banjo practice for a change.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Especially chasing the Canadian geese and eating the treats they leave behind
DeanT - Posted - 01/01/2013: 23:57:42
Not much longer... it's melting... but it was nice while it lasted
OM45GE - Posted - 01/02/2013: 04:19:34
It's only 16 F out so the snow isn't melting but there isn't any more in the forecast. Fortunately the ski areas are making snow like crazy. We went over the holidays and are going again Friday - yahoo!
dat - Posted - 01/02/2013: 05:44:36
we made it into the new year, I slept through the new year again, when I woke up, it was there without me watching it come in
DeanT - Posted - 01/02/2013: 11:11:30
We fell asleep too... don't think I've seen the ball drop for about 5 years at least
DeanT - Posted - 01/02/2013: 17:14:43
She left on vacation on Dec 20, and said she wouldn't be back until the New Year... I bet she be popping back in soon. Since she works for Deering, I'm betting it won't be long!
mbanjo - Posted - 01/02/2013: 17:23:34
Thanks Dean, just wondering cause she emailed me before xmas and said she would be back at work today. I missed my early morning games partner :-)
mbanjo - Posted - 01/03/2013: 02:59:09

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 01/03/2013: 06:41:29
Good morning! I'm back from Hoosierland and back at work. The holidays were stressful but I survived.
My dogs are sad that we're back and they no longer have a big backyard to play in and mega-squirrels to chase. (They get the big fox squirrels near my parents. Around here we just have the smaller grey squirrels.) My cats were very stressed when I got home but are slowly getting back to normal. Mr. Quimby has a cold, though, and sounds miserable.
