Thanks! Won my age group. Pigged out on granola bars afterwards!

Hey, hey, hey - - - Congrats on the age group win! I'd have a hard time just walking that far.
Way to go with the determination/ tenacity/ and perseverance to "Git R Done"!! ![]()

Thanks you guys! It really helps to have an addictive personality. I traded the Jim Beam for running shoes!

I used to run a little through the summer and fall so I would be in better shape for hiking through the rice fields with a decoy bag goose hunting, been a long time since I ran though, surgeries left a leg that only wants to walk
chuckv97 - Posted - 09/21/2015: 06:09:56
I used to like running, but these days it's walking and swimming. My brother ran 5 miles every morning ,,now is getting a hip replacement in Oct.

I tore a meniscus in my left knee in 97, and was diagnosed with arthritis in it 07. Running has actually strengthened is and keeps it feeling better than when I didn't run. I also bike a lot, and can see that taking over as my old bones get creekier

I need to get a good bicycle, it would do me good. ride for ten of fifteen miles instead of run for 5
dmiller - Posted - 09/21/2015: 12:43:57
I've got an old Huffy 18 speed mountain bike that I bought damn near 25 years ago, and probably have less than 100 miles on it. My little brother quit drinking and smoking when he turned 50, and took up bicycling instead. When he "goes for a ride", it isn't just around the block. He does 25 plus miles or more once he gets on his. I should air up the tires on mine and see if I can still ride (before the snow starts flying up here). I know the exercise is good - - but it's hard to get "motivated".
DeanT - Posted - 09/21/2015: 13:54:12
I'm in the long ride group, the photo above was taken during a 75 mile ride. I do a lot of 100K's and centuries.

my wife's niece and her husband both ran, swam and biked the iron man triathlon, if I need to go that far, I'll get in the truck or boat

I've never tried rock climbing, but it looks like fun! I did an Iron Man in 1984. I've thought about doing one again
OM45GE - Posted - 09/22/2015: 06:46:19
I used to be an avid rock climber. There are lots a great climbing spots here in the northeast. That all came to a stop when I tore up my ankle. I miss it but life goes on.
dat - Posted - 09/22/2015: 07:10:50
I hike through the woods, but trail walking is about it, not much climbing, even though it would be fun
DeanT - Posted - 09/22/2015: 11:14:25
I could probably get into mountain biking on the trails... not a lot of trails in timbucktoo Kansas...
dat - Posted - 09/22/2015: 12:18:51
blaze yer own trail, you have your choice of 360* at any point on the trail without any obstacles
DeanT - Posted - 09/22/2015: 17:29:18
I could ride up and down corn rows, or plow through wheat fields! We do have some nice rail-trails
OM45GE - Posted - 09/22/2015: 18:25:29
You could ride a century ride on trails around here without too much trouble.

The only rock climbing I've done was a one week "how to class" on it back in '85. It was in the Black Hills just west of Rapid City SD. and if you've never been there - - do yourself a favor and go. It's some of the prettiest country you'll find anywhere. We were given a basic course on rock climbing and then rappelling. It was fun to do, but I never took up the sport.
dmiller - Posted - 09/22/2015: 20:50:36
I haven't been back there since then, and I still kick myself for something I didn't do when I was there in '85. I got there a day early and didn't have a whole lot to do, so I wandered around the town and found this music shop that had acoustic instruments, and they were selling a mandolin called Flatiron. I'd never heard of the brand before, but it was a GREAT sounding mandolin compared to the one I had. Mine was the mandolin version of a bottle cap banjo - - so you get the idea. The store had had both "A" and "F" Flatiron models there for sale. The "A" was (around) 650 bucks, and the "F" model was a couple hundred dollars more. I had just gotten my first ever credit card and it had a $650.00 limit, and I hadn't used it at all - - and that Flatiron was calling my name.
It was with GREAT reluctance that I decided to not max out the credit card with just one purchase for that mandolin, because the car I had at the time wasn't "the best" and the possibility of it breaking down on the road back to Minney - soda was a real possibility. These many years later, those mandolins (the original ones from Montana before they got sold out to Gibson) sell for thousands of dollars. I always refer to that new Flatiron from back in '85 there in Rapid City as - - "The One that Got Away".
dmiller - Posted - 09/22/2015: 22:41:06
That would be the ticket - - eh? Think of all the folks you could "visit with"!

I still can't complain about my bride, I would do the same again, but I sure would look at different job offers through the past
DeanT - Posted - 09/23/2015: 17:16:26
my job is the one thing I did right. Air Force Jets... it was like a hobby on steroids, with good retirement
OM45GE - Posted - 09/23/2015: 17:59:51
There are several cars and guitars I wouldn't have sold if I could go back and change my mind for me.
DeanT - Posted - 09/23/2015: 22:17:47
Yep, I sold a completely restored 1952 Chevy 3600 pickup. I could still be driving it.
OM45GE - Posted - 09/24/2015: 03:24:49
I've had two Jaguar XKE convertibles at different times. I sold each for less than $10,000. One of them just resold for $125,000
dat - Posted - 09/24/2015: 07:28:50
I would have lifted with my knees more instead of my back, many things when I was younger and folks said take care of you back/ body, I would have listened better
dat - Posted - 09/24/2015: 10:54:54
I think I would spend the time listening better to my grandmother when she talked, and to other older people in life that aren't here to listen to anymore
DeanT - Posted - 09/24/2015: 12:59:39
I would have gone to basic training right out of high school, instead of wasting a few years before wising up
OM45GE - Posted - 09/24/2015: 13:53:29
I agree Daniel, I should have spent a lot more time talking with my grandparents instead of just thinking I already knew it all.
chuckv97 - Posted - 09/24/2015: 17:06:35
As Dylan sang, "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now"

We should have used our knowledge of everything to solve all the world's problems.

I was an expert on women too... hmmm, maybe that why I married four of them...
dat - Posted - 09/25/2015: 06:40:41
I wasn't an expert on women, that's why just one got stuck with me.
and if she gets smart and goes somewhere else, I'm done with em

My duet partner played a mean flute but he gave it up. Too bad. I liked Tull.
