That's the Clyde song!!! Wow some memories there. Probably a local thing, but that's what we 10 stepped to

chuckv97 - Posted - 10/21/2016:  15:24:41

JJ Cale..what an original he is. Watched a doc on him..he was living in a small trailer when he's not on the road.

OM45GE - Posted - 10/21/2016:  19:33:47

I'll have to look for that video.

He sounds like my kind of guy - - -

Thanks for sharing.

DeanT - Posted - 10/22/2016:  06:19:18

That was cool, I never heard the Bandstand story before!

OM45GE - Posted - 10/22/2016:  06:44:05

That singer I like, Eva Cassidy, did something similar. She was offered a recording contract but they wanted to change her style and do songs that she didn't want to do so she turned them down.

chuckv97 - Posted - 10/22/2016:  07:16:06

Thnx for that vid, David. I also liked the Fretboard Journal cover with Steve Martin playing his banjo and the outro music.

And btw, Alison Krauss was offered a big Sony records contract years ago - she opted to stay with Rounder, the label that gave her a start when she was still a teenager.

Artistic integrity isn't dead.

Dylan just got awarded a Nobel prize for his "literary work",

but he seems to be ignoring it and is refusing to accept it.

I could never do that... I'd become a sell out in a second, do whatever they say, make my millions, then fade away with a big bank account.

OM45GE - Posted - 10/22/2016:  18:19:05

Sounds like a great plan.

Show business can get weird

DeanT - Posted - 10/23/2016:  13:06:16

my old bluegrass band couldn't get gigs or invited back when we played bluegrass standards. So we started grassing up rock and country covers, and got lots of work. We called it "Honky-Tonk bluegrass" and that got shortened to Honkygrass, and we were a big hit locally for a few years. Those were some really good times. Wouldn't trade em for the world, but would never do it again either.

chuckv97 - Posted - 10/23/2016:  13:32:08

I played with a band in the '70's who were trying to go crossover, and called their music "Bluesgrass".

DeanT - Posted - 10/23/2016:  18:35:52

It was the hardest work I did, while getting paid the least...

I was in a group that played everything from bluegrass to classical, jazz, blues and rock. We called ourselves the Eclectic String Band

DeanT - Posted - 10/24/2016:  04:13:13

I had forgot all about Boogiegrass! That was a big song in it's day too

OM45GE - Posted - 10/24/2016:  05:25:45

Conway Twitty was a good baseball player. He was offered a contract with the Philadelphia Phillies but got drafted into the Army and never played pro ball.

chuckv97 - Posted - 10/24/2016:  05:51:29

Wasn't his real name Jenkins or something like that? Wonder how he came up with "Twitty".

OM45GE - Posted - 10/24/2016:  10:02:44

Yep, Harold Lloyd Jenkins. There are a couple versions of the story. One is that he picked the name from a couple of towns he saw on a road map. The other is that met a guy named Conway Twitty and liked the name.

chuckv97 - Posted - 10/24/2016:  10:14:17

With twitter all the rage nowadays, he was ahead of his time.
BTW, speaking of Jenkins, Ferguson Jenkins (🇨🇦) was on MLB radio yesterday. He used to pitch 300 innings a season, lots of complete games, and a 20-game winner . Must have had a rubber arm.

DeanT - Posted - 10/24/2016:  11:41:22

I remember Fergie Jenkins! At the time I was playing little league with a kid who's dad was Milt Pappus, a fellow Cubs pitcher.

OM45GE - Posted - 10/24/2016:  12:21:38

I heard an interesting thing on the radio about Tommy John Surgery that was saying the quest for 90 MPH + fastballs lead to more pitchers injuring their rotator cuffs which they then learned to avoid by strengthening the shoulder muscles. That put all the stress on the ulnar ligament which can't be strengthened.

DeanT - Posted - 10/24/2016:  15:58:19

I still have trouble in my left elbow, from all my ball playing... and I haven't thrown a ball since the mid 90's

OM45GE - Posted - 10/25/2016:  02:42:43

The motion looks painful.

DeanT - Posted - 10/25/2016:  05:48:50

that's what cortisone shots are for...

OM45GE - Posted - 10/25/2016:  06:23:50

I never had a good throwing arm. Probably why I gravitated to music instead of sports.

DeanT - Posted - 10/25/2016:  13:11:51

I'm still better at sports than music... but not good enough to get paid for sports!

OM45GE - Posted - 10/25/2016:  13:31:20

I did/do things like skiing, running, rock climbing, sailing, etc. I suck at team sports. If they're serious about winning, they don't want me on the team. big

DeanT - Posted - 10/25/2016:  16:10:07

That was one of the things I didn't like about playing baseball, especially pitching... win you're the hero, loose and you are whale crap. I hated letting a whole team down.

chuckv97 - Posted - 10/25/2016:  19:20:00

Yeah, there's too much responsibility put on the pitcher ...how about the hitters..they need to score runs if the pitcher has an off day

OM45GE - Posted - 10/26/2016:  02:23:46

I'll have a pitcher of beer. 😎

DeanT - Posted - 10/27/2016:  15:57:10

the last pitcher of beer I faced, beaned me and left me with a headache

OM45GE - Posted - 10/28/2016:  02:44:03

I know that feeling.

DeanT - Posted - 10/28/2016:  11:13:28

Is that about the foreign elderly?

DeanT - Posted - 10/28/2016:  16:41:48

Today was about our ancestors the lizard people...

Forrest - Posted - 10/28/2016:  17:38:18

Ah yes, the lizard people.  I've been in touch with my lizard brain recently.

DeanT - Posted - 10/28/2016:  17:52:08

they come from the hollow moon...

chuckv97 - Posted - 10/28/2016:  18:38:00

Hillbillies moon each other in the hollows? Wow...

dmiller - Posted - 10/28/2016:  20:13:45

Where do you think "moon shine" comes from?  tongue

OM45GE - Posted - 10/29/2016:  04:29:36

Moonshining, lizard, hillbilly aliens! My head is spinning.

DeanT - Posted - 10/29/2016:  05:57:47

I've only tried moonshine once, and don't remember anything afterwards...

OM45GE - Posted - 10/29/2016:  06:11:50

I've tried it a couple of times and didn't care for either experience. I suppose there's a lot of variance in different moonshines, but my admittedly limited sampling wasn't encouraging.
