I'll go to Academy instead,   last time I went to target (many years ago) I went in looking for a box of BB's,    they told me "Oh, No Sir,  we DO NOT sell any kind of projectiles"     so I haven't been back

DeanT - Posted - 10/17/2013:  17:26:13

You like Academy because of Danica yes

dat - Posted - 10/18/2013:  05:58:16

could be a lot worse reasons

DeanT - Posted - 10/18/2013:  06:23:37

I got my home gym there, and Danica was nowhere to be found that day

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/18/2013:  06:51:43

There's a lot of stores that don't sell projectiles. Victoria Secret, Big Lots, Barnes and Nobles, the grocery store, the liquor store, the hardware store. I honestly can't say that I've ever considered not shopping in any of those places because I can't buy ammo in them.

If I want fishing line I go to Walmart or Kmart. If I want embroidery floss I go to Michaels. If I want a book I go to Barnes and Nobles. If I want a key made I go to Home Depot. Not every store carries every item you could want. I tend to shop at Target for things like toothpaste and kitty litter because it's fairly close to my house and the parking lot is easy to get in and out of. When I lived in Virginia I shopped at Kmart for those sorts of things because it was closer. But if I need something specific I just go to a different store.

dat - Posted - 10/18/2013:  07:06:31

Biggest thing is that I was in their sporting goods section, which has camping, hiking, outdoor stuff,  and probably not as much as not having it but the attitude of the salesperson when I asked.  around there even the grocery stores have BB's

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/18/2013:  08:30:51

Yeah, the salesperson attitude can be a big issue.

DeanT - Posted - 10/18/2013:  12:41:54

One reason I cringe when I go to Dicks Sporting goods... "Do you have a well cushioned neutral running shoe, with light stability, breathable uppers, a straight last, and 4mm toe drop? .... "sure, check out these pretty lime green shoes that will go nice with your eyes...." dead

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/18/2013:  12:55:30

That sounds like my car buying experience. "I'm looking for a utilitarian vehicle that I can use to haul around bags of gran and bales of hay."

"What about this sporty little red car with leather seats?"

dat - Posted - 10/18/2013:  13:47:17

kinda makes ya manna spit

No leather seats for me... too hot in the Kansas sun and too many dog paws

dat - Posted - 10/21/2013:  06:25:07

nuthin like the sizzle of a summer time leather seat,   they aren't the best to have in Texas either, you could bake a tater in a car

DeanT - Posted - 10/21/2013:  06:41:31

I'll never forget when my Kodak point-and-shoot camera turned into a plastic puddle in the back window of my car

I found this cute like rubber dinosaur in the parking lot of my bank once and decided that he could be my mascot and sit on the dash of my car. Luckily I noticed him getting kind of oozy before he totally melted and I was able to remove him.

Goes to show you that you should never leave animals in the car.

DeanT - Posted - 10/21/2013:  13:20:46

Happens every year in Kansas... dogs die, left  in hot carsnodeadsadangry... special place in hell for those people

dat - Posted - 10/21/2013:  13:23:57

Yeah, dogs have been left in the parking lot while somebody makes a "quick" trip into the store, they aren't quick enough in the summer heat, even with the windows rolled down a couple of inches, the temp rises fast

DeanT - Posted - 10/21/2013:  15:05:09

revoke their pet permits...

Let them spend time in a locked car, while the pet shops in the store.  evil

My dad's in the hospital. Chest pains. It sounds mostly like they're just keeping him under observation. He went in yesterday and called my older sister tonight to let her know he'd be there another night.

My sister's oldest is in a residential treatment facility. I got a letter from her today. She said she had a dream that I had been kidnapped and when they found me I was dead. She said she woke up crying.

The tail pipe fell off my car.

This guy I work with is being a huge thorn in my side and I just want to smack him. He's basically suggesting I'm not capable of doing my job because I asked for assistance from an outside consultant--a consultant they told me was available if I needed assistance.

I'm not in a good mood.

DeanT - Posted - 10/21/2013:  23:51:08

I sure hope your Dad is ok!

Hit the guy you work with over the head with your tail pipe.

dmiller - Posted - 10/22/2013:  00:33:34

My Dad passed about two years ago.  Before he did, he had troubles with his balance and fell a lot (resulting in head injuries).  Here's hoping your Dad comes through OK.  Mine was 87 when he passed, and it was just "his time".

Let me know when you're done with using that tailpipe.  I (also) have an a$$hole co-worker who pi$$es and moans about everything under the sun, and does little to enhance the "work environment" whenever he is "on the clock".  Methinks a "tailpipe upside the head" would get him thinking straight and get him into the "working mode" he should be in.  I doubt that it would actually work - - but it's worth a try!

dat - Posted - 10/22/2013:  06:25:01

good use for a tailpipe.

hope your Dad gets to feeling OK Niffer

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/22/2013:  12:26:55

Dad's still in the hospital. Haven't really gotten any updates. My younger sister is flying to Indiana right now to help my mom out. Apparently Mom couldn't find the car in the hospital parking lot yesterday and ended up calling a neighbor to come get her. She's had some memory issues the last couple of years and I think she's frazzled by everything going on. I feel better knowing my sister will be there.

Tomorrow is my interview. My sister has been very insistent that I go to the interview and let her handle things in Indiana.

Annoying dude at work has continued to be annoying and some other stuff has come up. My tail pipe might get a workout.

DeanT - Posted - 10/22/2013:  12:33:23

I hope your Dad pulls through with no problems, and I hope your interview goes really great. And swing that tailpipe with all your might!

I used to carry an axe handle under the seat of my truck 'till a policeman told me that was illegal, now I carry a gun

DeanT - Posted - 10/22/2013:  16:41:01

I carry the handle to my hydraulic jack under the front seat. I wouldn't think of using it for anything else.

dmiller - Posted - 10/22/2013:  20:39:09

The three D battery Mag Light, is a handy tool (in the car) as well as an effective "persuader" against those that wish you ill will.  I'd rather have a gun for protection, but the permits for them are hard to get here in northern Minney-soda.  So far, I don't need a permit for the flashlight.

Mr. Quimby - Posted - 10/23/2013:  18:40:38

Survived the interview. Now I gotta survive the trip home. (Shuttle is picking me up at 3:45am and I'm expecting a migraine tomorrow.)

Dad's out of the hospital. They couldn't find anything wrong with him and couldn't find any evidence he'd had a heart attack or anything.

Good to hear your Dad is ok!

Is it time to start packing for Colorado?

dmiller - Posted - 10/24/2013:  00:20:40

Good to hear about your Dad.  Good to hear about a successful interview too.  Hey - - where in Indiana?  I go back (from here in Minnesota) a coupla three or so times a year to visit my mother in Bloomington (50 miles southwest of Indianapolis, and 15 miles away from Bean Blossom).

dat - Posted - 10/25/2013:  06:04:11

he needs to be home to relax and drink a makers mark or 5

what part of Colorado are you moving to?

I'm so jealous, in Kansas we never get to see any mountains

dat - Posted - 10/25/2013:  07:06:32

good thing about Kansas, you don't have anything blocking the view of the skyline

DeanT - Posted - 10/25/2013:  12:46:50

just dust storms sometimes...

dat - Posted - 10/25/2013:  14:34:06

DeanT - Posted - 10/25/2013:  16:04:41

Ah - - South Bend.  Reminds me of the old Indiana joke - - - -

"South Bend ain't in the south,

North Vernon ain't in the north,

And French Lick ain't nuthin like I thought it'd be!"

I had a roommate once from Jamaica. We were working in New York and someone had told her that New York was the Empire State. So she came back to our room and asked what state Indiana was. I said we were the Hoosier state. She said, "What's a Hoosier?" And I said, "No one knows."

I did tell her a couple of the legends that might explain what a Hoosier was.

(She also was reading a book she picked up somewhere. It was a trashy romance titled Kaleidoscope. She asked what that meant and I tried to explain it. A couple weeks later I was in town with my boyfriend and we saw a toy store. I made him go in there with me and we found an inexpensive kaleidoscope to give her.)

DeanT - Posted - 10/27/2013:  11:40:03

whatever happened to the boyfriend?

He's a minister in Michigan and is married to the younger sister of one of my best friends. They are expecting their second child this week, and if you could spare some prayers for them.....

They had a lot of trouble conceiving and finally had a little girl just about three years ago. She has some pretty serious health problems. There are no major blood vessels going to her left lung, so it's shriveled up into nothing and will likely need to be removed at some point. She also had a hole in her heart that was repaired when she was about a year old. She's on lots of medication every day, although they had hope that she will live a fairly normal life.

They tried to get pregnant again about a year and a half ago and lost the baby. Then tried again and, as I said, are expecting the baby in a few days. This is a link to the mom's blog when they got the news about this baby's health issues: irreverentviewoffertility.blog...nday.html

They are two of the most wonderful people I know and it breaks my heart to think they're going through all this.
