Yeah, pretty incredible stuff. Talk about courage. They had no idea whether or not the plane would just disintegrate when it broke the sound barrier.

DeanT - Posted - 07/31/2014:  12:42:22

I'm happy just to hang on to my bike at 20 mph... That dash board looked like a video game

OM45GE - Posted - 07/31/2014:  12:45:08

Sometimes during the races they'll show a driver's eye view and you see them adjusting knobs and switches at 150 MPH while going around a corner. Crazy.

dat - Posted - 07/31/2014:  12:46:02

20 mph crash on a bike would hurt, speed of sound crash the pain comes quicker...............but might end all at once

OM45GE - Posted - 07/31/2014:  13:26:46

Yeah, the pain probably wouldn't last very long.

DeanT - Posted - 07/31/2014:  18:34:06

I don't think there would be time to feel the pain before being vaporized

OM45GE - Posted - 08/01/2014:  05:41:51

Exactly, but I don't want to find out.

DeanT - Posted - 08/01/2014:  06:23:33

I'll take vaporization over just about anything else for my ticket out of here.

a buddy of mine said that an explosion is a good way to go, he was in two but bade it through both. he said he was running then woke up in the hospital on both, never knew what happened

OM45GE - Posted - 08/01/2014:  10:16:01

I had the same thing happen falling on ice. Never knew what hit me.

dat - Posted - 08/01/2014:  15:15:59

did you crack the ice?"

DeanT - Posted - 08/01/2014:  18:11:05

I did that two years ago on the ice, while walking my dogs. Woke up on the ground, and there was my dogs looking at me like "this is a fine time to take a nap".

OM45GE - Posted - 08/02/2014:  05:35:10

There wasn't enough ice to crack. It was a puddle that had frozen over. Like Dean, I was walking Toby. I woke up looking at the sky, my glasses smashed and Toby looking at me like "what the heck are you doing just lying there?" I went home and a few hours later got a ride to the hospital in an ambulance when I started blacking out and couldn't stand up.

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/02/2014:  05:51:59

One morning when a teenager I walked out the front door and the stoop was covered with frozen rain. Yep, I did the old somersault, school books flying, and banged up my back on landing. My Dad heard me groaning and moaning as I lay writhing on the ground,so he came out to help, and wouldn't you know it, he tumbled a*s over teakettle also. Here we both were moaning at the bottom of the steps and my mother opens the door ,looks out at us, gasps with hand to her mouth, not knowing what to do. After a few minutes we recovered enough to stumble back inside, after Mom had thrown down some salt.

DeanT - Posted - 08/02/2014:  06:18:50

Ahhh the memories... or lack of them...

I didn't go to the hospital, but I had some pretty good headaches for a few weeks.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/02/2014:  06:24:22

I've had three or four pretty bad concussions over the years, skiing, mountain biking, walking on a sidewalk. It worries me a little when I see what's happening to some of the NFL players.

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/02/2014:  06:42:33

Ahh, so that explains your condition Bill! lol

OM45GE - Posted - 08/02/2014:  07:40:54

I dmint kneo wht u meeeeeeeeeeeen

DeanT - Posted - 08/02/2014:  12:32:30

I got knocked out barefoot water skiing, amazing how hard water is at 50 mph...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/02/2014:  13:00:06

I've fallen water skiing but never knocked myself out.

DeanT - Posted - 08/02/2014:  17:11:17

I think I kicked myself in the back of the head

OM45GE - Posted - 08/02/2014:  17:16:10

That would be an interesting contortion.

DeanT - Posted - 08/02/2014:  23:39:35

It would also explain the frequent trips to the chiropractor for the next few months

OM45GE - Posted - 08/03/2014:  17:22:59

I bet.

We had one of my very thin (130 lbs) friends up on skis behind the Correct Craft doing about 40 mph. He was probably doing closer to 60 when he went way outside as we turned at the end of the lake. When he fell, he skipped like a stone for about a hundred feet before disappearing with a splash. I thought we had killed him but he came up laughing.

DeanT - Posted - 08/03/2014:  22:56:00

It's all in how you fall. Face planting isn't a good way...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/04/2014:  04:46:22

Nope, not at all.

DeanT - Posted - 08/04/2014:  05:35:48

I miss those days.... but not the boat costs

OM45GE - Posted - 08/04/2014:  05:48:09

I hear you, but my Correct Craft is a 1989 that I paid $5,000 for about 10 years ago. I do most of the work on it myself. Gas is expensive but for $40.00 I can take the kids out for a day of  family fun on the water. To me it's worth it.

dat - Posted - 08/04/2014:  06:51:56

I have a little aluminum monark 14 ft with a 25 hp on it we ride the river in.   I don't care much for the lakes but chugging down the river is nice

OM45GE - Posted - 08/04/2014:  08:05:11

Our boat is on a river too. It's really great. I can run up river about five miles before it gets too shallow below a dam. Up river of that is a lot of navigable water too. Down stream it's about 15 miles to the ocean but I stay in the freshwater parts of the river.

DeanT - Posted - 08/04/2014:  10:39:49

In Kansas we have to drive a hour or so to find a good lake too...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/04/2014:  11:12:54

Weren't you saying that a river near you dried out to the point you could walk across it where you used to boat?

dat - Posted - 08/04/2014:  14:08:47

that sounds like around here for the last three or four years, the lakes and rivers are just now getting where they should be

OM45GE - Posted - 08/04/2014:  14:24:08

Mother Nature just loves to flip us the bird doesn't she?

she has been nice to us around here this year, it's the first part of August and we haven't seen any 100* F weather yet, normally it's been 98 plus for a month now,  I don't think it's gotten above 97 yet this year

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/04/2014:  14:52:57

It was in the 90's in central Alberta all weekend. Great weather for the Blueberry Bluegrass and Country Festival. Saw a couple of my banjo heroes there doing a workshop- Herb Pedersen and Kenny Ingram. Also that great looking gal with the sweet voice , Suzy Boguss.

DeanT - Posted - 08/04/2014:  16:13:46

Yep, walking across rivers and lakes last year, and they are all full this year

OM45GE - Posted - 08/04/2014:  16:45:55

We're having a great summer too. Haven't been to any bluegrass festivals yet though. Yours sounded nice Chuck.

DeanT - Posted - 08/04/2014:  18:34:23

It's been a real bad bug summer. I hate bugs.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/05/2014:  02:54:28

Bugs in general or things like mosquitoes?

DeanT - Posted - 08/05/2014:  05:51:01

mosquitoes, ticks and fleas. They've all been bad this summer. Usually the Kansas heat fries them... but it's been cooler this year with lots of rain

dat - Posted - 08/05/2014:  06:06:16

We've had a lot of skeeters this year,  I sprayed that "Off Yard Guard" around the house once, that stuff works,  we had about two and a half weeks without skeeters.   it says 8 weeks on the bottle but I was happy with the two and a half,  I need to get another bottle

OM45GE - Posted - 08/05/2014:  08:27:43

If mosquitos, ticks, lice and the like didn't exist and someone like Stephen King made them up in a horror story people would think he was demented.

dat - Posted - 08/05/2014:  09:45:38

I hear ya,   I've never had lice, but I've had west nile virus from a skeeter and rocky mountain spotted fever from a tick, not counting the aggravation of just being bitten

OM45GE - Posted - 08/05/2014:  11:06:01

Just think about mosquitos, they fly with a maddening whine from their wings, sense that you are there with heat and CO2 detectors, pierce you with a hypodermic like nose appendage, inject an anesthetic and an anticoagulant (along with who knows what pathogens) and then suck their bellies full of your blood so they can create their eggs, which can lie dormant for years until they're in enough water to sustain the larva. Then they do it all again with another victim having added whatever diseases you may have to their arsenal. Creepy.

DeanT - Posted - 08/05/2014:  11:11:18

The least they could do would be to deposit a mood altering drug...

dat - Posted - 08/05/2014:  12:02:11

always remember though..................a singing mosquito won't bite

chuckv97 - Posted - 08/05/2014:  13:49:09

It's when they get quiet at 2am you're in trouble

DeanT - Posted - 08/05/2014:  14:53:10

I want to move somewhere there are no mosquitos.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/05/2014:  15:44:27

Yeah, except there would probably be something else just as bad.
