Nope, he's cars. I have no idea what he runs... looks like a rail dragster. His crew left for the flats a couple days ago. He runs a pet supply company, which finances his cars. He was a big drag car designer in the 60's... I think he was involved in the rear engine rails back then.

OM45GE - Posted - 08/08/2012:  16:43:47

He probably won't be there when we are. There is a separate meet for motorcycles.

DeanT - Posted - 08/08/2012:  17:41:00

They must have stuff going on all the time

OM45GE - Posted - 08/09/2012:  05:12:18

It's actually sort of seasonal. The flats flood in the spring and don't dry out until summer. The evaporating water leaves the hard level surface. The slat flats are shrinking as well. They're 1/3 the size they were when discovered.

dat - Posted - 08/09/2012:  06:51:41

probably from all the racers bringing home salt in their equipment approve

DeanT - Posted - 08/09/2012:  07:59:22

Don;t they shoot off rockets from the flats too?

dat - Posted - 08/09/2012:  09:13:17

I had to look that up, but they do.    probably a good thing they do it at different times, you wouldn't want to be driving your motor skooter at 200 mph and have a rocket land in front of you

Potash mining, although I guess a fair amount does come home with the racers.

DeanT - Posted - 08/09/2012:  09:30:03

them model rocket people are cool as heck... I think they are trying to get them out to space lately...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/09/2012:  09:30:48

Some of those guys are SERIOUS! The competitions are cool.

DeanT - Posted - 08/09/2012:  09:31:33

they could give a cat a serious ride

OM45GE - Posted - 08/09/2012:  09:38:18

Good use for cats.

dat - Posted - 08/09/2012:  09:53:05

that's about the best use for a cat that I can think of

OM45GE - Posted - 08/09/2012:  10:03:51

Exerciser for dogs?

DeanT - Posted - 08/09/2012:  10:16:43

one of these days our neighbors cat is going to be in our backyard at the wrong time. Last time a rabbit tried that, it was amazing. it was all over in a matter of seconds.

dat - Posted - 08/09/2012:  10:48:47

not enough time to sing "run little rabbit run" before it was over

DeanT - Posted - 08/09/2012:  12:32:45

not even enough time to sing ru.....

dat - Posted - 08/09/2012:  14:18:55

sometimes the dogs can get things done before you realize they need doing

OM45GE - Posted - 08/10/2012:  05:26:48

We are overrun with rabbits, in spite of a healthy coyote population. Toby chases them, but hasn't quite been able to catch one. It's funny to see him running flat out and the rabbit put on a last burst of speed to get away.

The greyhounds must be fun to watch. They've got the speed to get it done.

dat - Posted - 08/10/2012:  06:42:08

he might learn to stalk them, then pounce

DeanT - Posted - 08/10/2012:  08:29:16

Greyhounds can be up to 45 mph in 3 strides. In our back yard, they are out the back door and the rabbit is done before it gets one step off. Google lure coursing, and watch some videos... they are amazing.

dat - Posted - 08/10/2012:  09:17:24

THOSE ARE SOME FAST LITTLE BOOGERS

OM45GE - Posted - 08/10/2012:  11:37:59

That is amazing.

I do have Toby do a slow, pointing stalk, but they still out-accelerate him. He'll have to get lucky. It it lots of fun to watch and he gets a good workout.

DeanT - Posted - 08/10/2012:  12:18:16

Second fastest land animal on the planet, second only to the Cheetah. They are faster than race horses.

dat - Posted - 08/10/2012:  12:20:31

this could be Toby

dat - Posted - 08/10/2012:  13:07:30

I like to watch pretty much any kind of dog work or hunt, retrievers, herders, pointers, hounds, they are all enjoyable to me

OM45GE - Posted - 08/10/2012:  13:52:01

They seem so happy doing what they were born and raised to do.

DeanT - Posted - 08/10/2012:  15:10:11

Schnauzers were born to yap

OM45GE - Posted - 08/10/2012:  17:24:40

My parents had Schnauzers. No offense to those who own and love them, but I never saw the point. They're members of the pillow family.

DeanT - Posted - 08/10/2012:  20:09:44

Sometime's they resemble rabbits....

OM45GE - Posted - 08/11/2012:  16:02:12

They can be feisty little buggers though.

DeanT - Posted - 08/11/2012:  16:47:41

If I can pick a dog up, it;s too small

OM45GE - Posted - 08/11/2012:  17:46:37

You could pick up Toby but neither you nor he would enjoy it.

DeanT - Posted - 08/11/2012:  18:28:29

I never should have picked up my 1st x-wife...

OM45GE - Posted - 08/13/2012:  04:32:29

dat - Posted - 08/13/2012:  11:04:12

I see the error of my ways by posting that,   It's just that it has been longer than 15 min and I can't go back and erase it

OM45GE - Posted - 08/13/2012:  15:17:51

Mitt was our governor here in Massachusetts. Be careful what you wish for.

DeanT - Posted - 08/13/2012:  15:50:26

I'm afraid its going to happen anyways

OM45GE - Posted - 08/13/2012:  16:53:22

It should be an interesting few months.

dat - Posted - 08/14/2012:  05:43:29

Rick Perry has been our governor for a while here, he may not be the most eloquent speaker and gets kinda flustered in front of the media sometimes, but over all he has done good things in Texas

OM45GE - Posted - 08/14/2012:  06:19:46

He used to be in the news a lot, but we haven't heard much about him since he dropped out of the Primaries.

DeanT - Posted - 08/14/2012:  07:05:00

I have always held out hope that Clint Eastwood would run... but now he's getting pretty old... Maybe Sylvester Stallone could go for it.
